@ almost everyone else: anyone who read the OP would understand i was asking console users what they would be prepared to pay for some kind of 'cerberus network for user created content.'
How does that make me a fanboy? I was never critical of PC users (remember i respect their modding abilities so much i want to BUY their content). I give up - i only asked out of curiosity anyway!

.....Only if you have a PCI-E or AGP slot and a usable PSU. A replacement motherboard can be the price of and xbox 360 and a replacement PSU can be the price of an xbox 360.
Even if that is not your situation, a gaming rig can be had for ~$500-$600. More than a console, but it's a PC, not just a gaming box. It'll be better at the normal PC stuff you do (HD video, media server, photo/video editing, workstation duty) AND play games at better resolution and better graphics quality than any of the consoles.
.....Actually a PS3 is very good for normal PC stuff with a Linux install. Resolutions past 1080p have next to no visible difference to human perception. Just look at amazons top 100 selling PC games hardly a graphics extravaganza compared to the console top 100.
That's just facts. Somehow these facts rub console players the wrong way. And so they ignore it, and keep blabbing on about the expense of PC gaming.
....No they aren't.

The answer provided to you was realistic and straight forward. It's not going to happen so if you want to take advantage of mods that add quests, improve the areas and NPC's, etc you'll have to play on the PC.

The problem with console mods is that as soon as you get a game converted where kids are shooting at faces of other real children or say in DAO having a love scene your console is going to be in serious trouble. The console market needs to be front room entertainment and needs a protected system. The PC is already a penis enlarger spam email and porn sites springing up in your browser when you click on an innocent looking device system. In the PC's case the protection is viewed as having to come from the parents side as it isn't perceived as a toy.
This is an intelligent and reasoned answer, and makes sense. Notice how he answered the question without vitrol or belittling comments?

Again, you have no clue what you are talking about. If your computer does not have a PCIe or AGP port, it's not 3-4 years old. The price of a HIGH end motherboard can be high, but something like that IS NOT needed for a gaming PC. My Home Theater PC plays games at true 1080p, and higher graphics detail than any console. It's motherboard was $50. How much is an xbox again? For a decent gaming rig you only need about a 500 watt PSU, which can be had for $60-$100. how much is an xbox again?
This is what I'm talking about. People keep spouting off completely ignorant and biased information, trying to convince others (themselves?) that PC gaming costs more than healthcare. Stop lying.
.....Actually a PS3 is very good for normal PC stuff with a Linux install. Resolutions past 1080p have next to no visible difference to human perception. Just look at amazons top 100 selling PC games hardly a graphics extravaganza compared to the console top 100.
Yeah, because all PS3 console owners are running linux. And no, the Ps3 is not going to compete as a general computing device. It's specialized hardware is great at parallel tasks, but General purpose computing? Not really. A netbook would be better, given that your average netbook comes with 2 gigs of RAM and support for a number of OS's and hardware acceleration for a number of tasks.
Resolution = more detail. It makes a difference. A big one. Not only that, but most consoles games are NOT rendered at 1080p. Most are 720p or less. That certainly makes a difference and not just in terms of pure eyecandy - though that too. In an FPS for example, that could be the difference between making out a sniper in the distance, and not, because he's being represented on the screen by a blobby pixel. In terms of GUI design, that gives the development team more real estate to work with.
....No they aren't.
Wow, so much information, sites and facts to backup your assertion. I'm impressed. Or rather, I'm not surprised.

Many PC users are elitists, and feel that if you were a "real" gamer you would spend the hundreds of dollars needed to upgrade your pc to play the latest games, despite the fact that your 360, bought at the same time as your pc 5 years ago is still able to play everything while now your pc is a POS that cannot even run the character creator.
The console users get just as defensive when it comes to their platform. Even going out with ridicilous statements such as fps and rts games play better on the consoles instead of a keyboard + mouse. It comes down to taste, pure and simple. To claim one side is worse than the other is just bias showing its ugly head.
To me, a a "real" gamer as you put it, which I consider myself to be, have both a good pc and a proper console. Best of both worlds.

You scoff at mortgages being a factor? Have your lender up your payments from 995 to 1875 with no notice and no recourse, and everyone else jacking their prices up, too.
Why on EARTH would I want to go out and ditch a perfectly functional PC to get a better one when I can play a game on my 360, no upgrades required? Hmmm 39.99 on sale at amazon and I can have a game that will provide hours of entertainment for 5 people, or 600 bucks EASY to upgrade my pc (that only I use mostly for working on) on top of the price of the game?
Edited to add -> I am obviously not a "real" gamer, I am just a person who has been playing games for 20+ years and enjoying them. I just don't enjoy the atmosphere that can't seem to abate on the forums whenever someone dares to want something cool.

Console only gamers are missing out on World of War Craft (and a bazillion other MMO's), Diablo III, star craft II, Total War (and a bazillion other strategy games), the sims, Other great FPs's like The stalker series, Crysis, etc. Never mind the other gazillion classic games that have been influencing games like Dragon Age and Halo for a decade.

Consoles are probably cheaper in terms of guaranteed quality for an extended ammount of time but if you take into account the price of the games, on a PC, you will be saving at least £10 per game and sometimes more for the latest releases (those that are multi platform). So in the long term, spending money on a PC is actually not much more expensive. Of course this can vary, depending on the ammount of games you buy over time.
I bought my PC about a year and a half ago, had I not bought a console aswell, I would have saved the extra cost of my PC from buying games on the cheaper platform.

Because you seem to want features that are and will always be unique to PC gaming. It's that simple.

But you did admit that you have alot of hate for consoles because of exclusives and you want console gamers to "pay for it" by not being able to use mods:

Why should console users have everything that PC users have? Let's talk about this again when they release Uncharted 2 and Forza Motorsport 3 on PC, shall we?
Abriael_CG wrote...
It all boils down to a very simple thing. Consoles have a lot of exclusive things that PC gamers don't get. I don't see a single skimpy reason why console gamers should get whatever PC gamers have.
It's really that simple.
I STILL don't think it is a big freakin' crime to WANT someone to create, package and sell mods for the console. I just don't get why you would waste your time and energy to be hateful to someone because they want more than they have. Why not go and hate on the homeless for wanting a house, or hate on the jobless for wanting a job because it is very clear now that to want something you do not have is HORRIBLE.

There's really no reason for platform elitism on either side. But that said, if you bought the console version you do have limits on your rights to be pissed about no mods. But that doesn't mean you're an idiot. It just means you have buyer's remorse.

It DOES cost more - give you a personal example I have a Dell Dimension 8000 purchased 5 years ago when I purchased my 360. PC has Pentium 4 CPU 3.0 GHZ with a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200. It can't play any of the games I want to play on it, whereas my existing 360 still CAN and flawlessly.
The Fx5200 is a 7 year old GPU. A low end, 7 yeard old GPU. The dell Dimension 800 is about 6-7 years old. Obviously, you did not buy that PC for gaming. Oh and btw, you can buy an AGP card that will play any modern games for about $100. And that's even though your PC is OLDER than what I suggested above as the cutoff point.
In the meantime the xbox 360 is still an outdated piece of hardware. For comparison the xbox sports only 256 Mb or Vram supporting a GPU with about 300 million transistor. A modenr gaming Pc has 1 GB of VRAM buffering a GPU with 3 billion + transistors and much newer micro architecture.
You scoff at mortgages being a factor? Have your lender up your payments from 995 to 1875 with no notice and no recourse, and everyone else jacking their prices up, too.
I scoff at the ignorant prices and costs being tossed around. Price is a factor regardless. It's just funny that the same people quoting price issues have 10 plastic guitars sitting in their basement.
Why on EARTH would I want to go out and ditch a perfectly functional PC to get a better one

It's not a matter of hate. All platforms need their exclusive features and games to be profitable and eventually survive.
Have a lot of hate for consoles? that must be why I have every major console released since the NES. I enjoy whipping them :innocent:

Dam Wookie is the only person on this thread to give a really good valid reason why consoles can't have mods, whereas the rest of the posts can be summed up as "buy a pc and quit whining" when all OP did was express his desire to pay for mods if they were ever made available.
Sheesh. I'm missing Chuck for this nonsense.

No one is holding you at gunpoint.
The reasons why mods can't be on consoles have been explained over and over again. You want a feature peculiar to PC gaming? Buy a PC. If i didn't have a PS3, and wanted to play it, I'd consider buying a PS3, instead of going to complain to Naughty Dog because they didn't make the game on PC.

What am I saying that is untrue? What is bothering you so much? Please enlighten us, how is the following untrue in anyway: "In order to play with mods in Dragon Age: Origins you need to be playing on the PC".
Please let me know where in that sentence I'm lying, or forcing you to go out and buy a new PC.
I'll be holding my breath.

It was, "I would be willing to pay for mod packs on the 360. Would anyone else and how much would you pay?"
Now do you see why the "go out an buy a pc" doesn't apply?

I'll come back for that one - i disagree with a lot of the things you've said APART from this. I do have a lowish-spec PC which i use for RTS games which i love (Total War in particular). I never liked WOW that much and i prefer the interface for DA more on consoles. If you have the time and money to invest in buying (and then using) a half decent PC then thats great. I could, but i PERSONALLY prefer DA on console.

I did not read all the posts here so I may repeat something anywho....
I think part of the issue is how much the common programmer knows of the proprietary code of the counsel. PC code is well known on the other hand. As far as content goes between the game software company, Microsoft, Sony, and so on can have a system setup for add-on's to be submitted for approval.
