As I mentioned in another post, I just upgraded my OS to Windows 7.
I need some information please. I moved my Saved Games to an external
hard drive before upgrading so I could do a clean sweep of my
system. Can someone tell me how I can get those saved games on my
external HD to the correct place in the Mass Effect 2 folder assembly on my
PC. I really am pretty technically illiterate -- I write children's
books and teach elementary school. I don't do computers that well. Thank
you in advance.
moved saved games help please?

Well, you know where your save games are, that's the most important thing.
Just tell the ME2 config where to find your saves. Open the ME2 Launcher and click Config. In the configuration tool, click Save Games on the left, then hit the Copy Mass 1 Saves button that appears on the right. It will open a Browse prompt, just point it to the Save directory on your external HD.
Option 2: Move the files yourself. From the ME1 Save directory, copy the files whose names start with "Char" (followed by a string of numbers) to C:\\\\Users\\\\*Your Username*\\\\Documents\\\\Bioware\\\\Mass Effect 2\\\\Save\\\\ME1\\\\ (I'm not completely certain about that path as I'm still using XP, but it should be something like that.)
Once you've moved them by either method, you should be able to start up ME2 and choose to import a ME1 character.

I'm sorry. I don't think I was clear enough. I have both ME1 saves and ME2 saves. Should I move them ALL to that file location? It would be C:\\\\users\\\\MyName\\\\Documents\\\\Cioware\\\\MassEffect2\\\\Save\\\\ME2? Or what? I am really confused with Windows 7...Thanks for the help, it is most appreciated.
My ME2 saves look like this:
Alexei00_01
Alexei00_02
Gabriel01_01
Gabriel01_AutoSave
and I have a file at the bottom labeled Profile.MassEffectProfile
Are those the correct Mass Effect 2 files, please? Thank you again

Easiest way: install ME1.
AND THEN:
Go to your just created profile / savegames folder in Documents\\Bioware\\Mass Effect and replace what's in it by your saved profile/char/save files.
Launch ME1, check that it's all right and running like before.
That done, then close ME1
Launch ME2
select to import ME1 career.
The process will find it automatically.

Are you talking about ME1 saves to import or ME2 saves for playing?
If the first, go to Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\ME1
If the latter: go to Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\Save
Hope this helps

Whoops, my bad. I assumed you were talking about old ME1 saves. Looks like pietjevlip has pointed you in the right direction though.

Okay, now I see again I did not read your posts thoroughly enough.
You say you have both ME1 and ME2 saves.
The only ME1 files that would be useful to place in your Mass Effect 2 save directory would be the "Char_"... files, which go in the Mass Effect 2\\\\Save\\\\ME1 directory to allow you to start new games using your ME1 import files.
Both types of files you mentioned look like ME1 saves to me, not ME2 saves. (And so would go in Bioware\\Mass Effect\\Save if you wanted to play ME1 with them again.) ME2 saves would have been grouped in subdirectories (one folder per character) under ME2's Save folder, and are named like this:
AutoSave.pcsav
QuickSave.pcsav
Save_0001.pcsav

I misunderstood you too at first, maybe becauzse of kloreeps post... [EDIT: his earlier one, not the latest. Hi kloreep i didn't notice you posting while i was typing]
The files you mention in your post are the ME1 saves in their original ME1 folder.
Mass Effect 2 Saves looks (example is mine):
the FOLDER "...Mass Effect 2\\\\\\\\Save\\\\\\\\" contains a FOLDER named:
*myprofilename*_31_Soldier_140310_0
CONTENTS:
AutoSave.pcsav
ChapterSave.pcsav
QuickSave.pcsav
