Awakening is SO much better than Origins. Final thread.

The attention to detail was amazing, the varied epilogues pertaining to even the fate of your EQUIPMENT off-the-wall and about a galaxy away from Origins.
The endgame was way too much fun, nothing felt tedious or forced.
People railed about bugs that I never really encountered.
The NPC's (Velanna excluded) were for the most part much more interesting than their OC vanilla counterparts.
There was a pervasive sense of mystery and things much bigger than what could possibly be explained the entire time I was playing.
If you are a true lover of old school RPG's, you want to get Awakening.
Every gripe you read on these boards is from WoWbrats, stat-grinders and misers.
This is as Throne of Bhaal as it gets.
PS The finale even commented on my OC romance subplot! I mean, come on, what more do you want?

Fighting 2-5 mobs at a time hardly seems worth getting my weapons out for.

It gave the casual, story-heavy oldskool geeklord a nice sense of accomplishment (Much like ME2's combat where you actually feel like you can kick ass without micromanaging your grandmothers' underwear) and really put you in the shoes of the Warden Commander.
It would have been extremely anti-climactic if everyone treated you respectfully and then you had to load three times during every battle.
Plus, for the challenge-seekers there's always the Queen of the Blackmarsh, a very well balanced fight and a pleasure to strategically take down without going into WoW ubernerd territory.
Plus, the endings were lovely. They addressed like every last, stupid, minor decision you did and even tied it into events from the OC. The actual mystery/big picture involving the Architect is obviously something to be explored in a sequel.
PS There's no 2/2/11 flyer in the EU retail version, incidentally.

In ToB I could at least use the new class kits ans skills in the original. I could also choose my team from my BG II members pool.

Yeah, that tells me all I need to know about this thread. Let's move along folks, nothing worth seeing here.

False. I had gripes; I don't play WoW, not too into stats, and got my game cheap.

I actually dug it.
No sarcasm.
I got to kick ass using funky new talents and the new team felt good.
25 Euros for three days worth of geeky fun?
Count me in

A few new talents and 3 days of gameplay is a far cry from "SO much better than Origins", though.

I'm sure everything feels so good at the moment, but wait until your head clears and post another review.

Mee too, cause the Origins is far better game than this expansion.

awakenings doesnt even compare to origins, an unfinished story, TOO EASY to beat, party members that few care about because we didnt get to know them well. I would dare say this expansion is the oppisite to origins. Awakenings has made our characters choices and history less meaningful because they ignore alot of it, Its better for people not to play awakenings and just pretend origins was the real game. So our character choices matter.

Some how its just not the same clicking the tankard to speak to the familiar red bearded dwarf, as amusing as he is. I do however enjoy the side quests in Awakening far more than I did in Origins. I'm 10 hours mind and have a "12%" complete reading in the stats page.
So far so good I'm enjoying it just as much as DA:O and I absolutely pray Bioware provide us with another expansion. This game is truly epic.
If I have one gripe it's probably that its a bit easy even on Nightmare I as good as cant die.
Ps. Who else thinks the city is better than Denerim

That said, the price is a smack in the face. For ten dollars less, we got fifty percent less game.

What I would say is that Awakening is worthy of being an expansion for Origins and that's saying alot. If only the ending wasn't so abrupt.

It really boils down to what you were expecting, doesn't it?
An expansion is supposed to be a goodly fix of stuff you enjoyed but don't really remember because it's been a while, right? Not a brand new game or anything.
(That being said, you Americans *were* royally ripped off, very true.)
And I'll grant you that the game follows the Human Noble Warrior/Knight as canon. Apart from that, the Awakening campaign is small, concise and exactly what it promised it would be: an expansion pack, a continuation of the adventure.
I don't get why you all think it ended abruptly...unless I've been drinking some truly funky Kool-Aid, the entire structure was evident from the onset.
Upgrade/Sidequest your way to Geek Nirvana and once the three main locations are explored, head to the final confrontation. No one promised an epic, life-spanning storyline. That being said, they made great use of the Ravenloft setting in the Blackmarsh, rehased Ozrammar with Kal Hirol and made a tolerable stab at The Elven Forest stage with Wending.
The conclusion was only logical and the myriad epilogues based on your decisions were much more satisfying and covered a lot more ground than their Origins counterparts.
And give up on the dialogue system already. NPC's will tell you what they have to tell you. Is it really that important to be able to click on them so they say "Ask me at some later time, I wanna meditate now"?
All things considered, having read the gripes about Awakening I was extremely wary of it, even given my realistic expectations.
I was very pleasantly surprised and had a jolly good old time playing through it, is all.
