Is it me or is IE8 a totally crap browser...
You may want to enable the site to use IE8's IE7 compatiblity mode... I had to do the same for my own website.

It's gotten to the point now that I will have to login 12 times before it will even take. Even then, I'm logged off again as soon as the page changes.
I really didn't want to, but I think I may have to let the forums go.

Go to Tools - Options in the Browser Menu upper left of window, then go to the Privacy Tab in the Options Window that comes up, then in this screen, there's a cookie option for how long to keep cookies. If it's not already, set this option to keep cookies until 'they expire'. See if that helps.Nightwriter wrote...
I installed Firefox too but the problem did not change. I'm on it right now and it's just as bad.

I too got irritated at IE8's failure to handle Site log-in properly & switched to Firefox. Then I had more trouble, & buggered around with the Options till I tried the above. It worked & my log-in problems are gone, never to be seen again.
Hope I helped.

Thanks for the help, but the box is checked.
I... really don't know what else to do. I'm running out of sanity. I've tried everything I know how. I can't fix it.
What maddens me is that I never had these login problems with IE on the old Mass Effect forum site, and I never get them when I am in this site's group boards. Only in the forums. Similarly, I have no login problems on any other website, anywhere else.

This option is a 'drop-down list' kinda option. My apologies, I forgot to mention that I also recommend, on the same 'Privacy' Tab, to make sure the 'Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session' checkbox is unchecked so the options below it become modifiable. I tried that private browsing thing, & it didn't work too well, so it seems to be better left off & unused.Nightwriter wrote...

I've thought of one last thing: Privacy Tab, look for the option 'Clear history when Firefox closes', & to the right of this option, there's a 'Settings...' button. Click it. In the next Window, the top part of the Window is a bunch of checkboxes telling Firefox what it can & cannot auto-clear upon Browser exit. Check the one that says 'Cookies' & if needed, uncheck this box. You don't want Firefox auto-clearing Cookies upon Browser exit, because this Site uses a Cookie for the log-ins. Auto-cookie deletion would cause the need for re-login every return to this Site.Nightwriter wrote...
Hmm. Yes, I understand what you mean about the drop-down list. The private browsing session box was unchecked, and the options below it are not grayed out.
Hope this helps, because if not, I might be stumped.

I had wondered if maybe I should clear all my cookies, worried there might be some kind of cookie clash between this site and the old site, but I haven't yet... Others have done this and report it changes nothing.
@ Bluerall
My remember me box is always checked. It will never stay unchecked. I will uncheck it and hit login, but of course it will reject my first 7 logins standard, and every time it bumps me back to the login screen the box is rechecked. Weird.
Interesting oddity: sometimes I bring up this site to find that I am already logged in. Does this happen to anyone else?

Have you tried it in another browser like Chrome or Safari? What operating system are you using? And does anyone else who uses your network have the same problem on their computer?

This is my third time today attempting to post to this thread. I had to log in 3 times to get to the reply form and choose language another 2 times while doing it and I fully expect to be asked to log in by the time I press reply. I haven't managed to reply today yet because then it throws me to select language and then throws me back to my profile page, then rince repeat to here with 4 logins and, ah, you get the picture.
I am using Opera 10.5 and Windows 7 Pro 64bit. As I have been using for the past 6 months without problems. Until now.
Copy+pasted this message now so I can try to come and reply a few times! Hope one gets through. Okay, after the loophole for 10 minutes I gave up trying to post. Finally got this through by Firefox, still no luck with Opera.
Maybe Opera 10.5 has problems with the site?

Nightwriter just to confirm, you are getting the problem in both IE8 and Firefox?

Yes, I am getting the problem in both IE and Firefox. I have not tried any other browser. I actually only installed Firefox in an attempt to use this site, because I lurves it so much. If you like, I will attempt to install Chrome or Safari.
I am on xp.
Concerning your last question, yes, I do know of others on this site who have HughesNet via satellite, like me, and are experiencing problems. The combination of HughesNet and IE seems especially problematic.

While IE7 and IE8 seem universally problematic, similar issues have been reported in Firefox, Opera, and at least once in Safari. Neither I nor anyone else seem to be having problems on other sites with these same browsers.
An interesting case:
I know of at least one person who had this problem while using a safari/ipod touch from his home wifi. Similarly, his personal home computer (win7-64/IE8) and his wife's home computer (xp/Firefox) experienced the same error.
However, when he took his ipod to the airport and used the public wifi there, the problem was “magically better”.
This leads me to think it has something to do with his ISP, which was HughesNet (satellite), just like me. He had no problems on his work computer either, which used xp/IE7. I have xp/IE7 right now and experience the problem CONSTANTLY on HughesNet. I suspect his workplace has a different ISP, and that this is the changing factor.

This is what I do.
If the 'Remember me' box is checked, it auto-unlogs you for some reason. Keeping it unchecked, however, 'remembers' the logon.

I can uncheck it a thousand times, but it never stays that way. I don't think this is a definitive solution.

Actually, on a hunch I just called my grandma and asked her to login using my account and see if the login persists. She uses corecomm and she's on dial-up.
She had absolutely no problems on Netscape or Explorer using her dial-up connection.

Someone mentioned to uncheck the "Remember Me" checkbox on the login page. Guess what? I no longer have the problem. Give it a shot. Worked for me.
Also, fiddling with the cookie handling in IE8 didn't resolve anything for me. I tried all the settings.
BTW, the only other browser I did not have a problem using this site with is Google Chrome (and the Remember Me box was checked). Firefox had the same issues as IE8 for me. Didn't try Safari or Opera.
And for those thinking they may have issues related to their ISP, it's highly unlikely and possibly just a coincidence that those with DSL or HughesNet or WiFi are having this problem. Even if your ISP is caching the pages or not, it's likely that this is related to how this site passes cookies based on the login page and reads them on subsequent refreshes. Just my opinion.

I think I am the person Nightwriter was talking about and I can confirm that I still have this issue from any machine/browser that accesses the site via hughesnet satellite.
My work computer logs in just fine (different isp). My ipod logs in just fine over wifi on a different isp, but can never remain logged in at home on wifi when I'm using hughes net.
I realize that the problem is likely to be specific to the code of this site rather than a function of hughesnet. My guess is that the site codes is tripping over the vastly higher latency for satellite connections (>1,000ms) and the web gurus have not prioritized finding and killing the bug as something that needs to be dealt with given how few folks seem to be impacted.
I note that no other sites, including Bioware's original forums, give me any trouble with logins like this. The only other site I seem to have issues with is EA's online store. But then I've heard there's a lot of folks that have issues at the EA store so I'm not sure those issues are necessarily related to this one.
My guess is that anyone who uses a satellite internet provider will have this issue. Anyone who is experiencing similar issues on a non-satellite isp should try unchecking the checkbox, or switching to a different browser.
As for me, I guess I'll just keep logging in dozens of times each visit to the site.

It really is weird how the problem fluctuates for some people, gets better and then gets worse.
Ugh - I just had to log in 37 times to make this post!!! 37?!!?!
