Hello all, I'm not sure if this has been posted and I've been looking around in the forums but couldn't find this topic so I'm sorry if this has been posted/asked.

I've completed Awakening so far with 2 of my characters that I have created. Now I have saved the game before the final boss. And now I would like to start playing the expansion with my third character though problem is when I try to make a new game for Awakenings I get a message saying "Character Limit reached. You must remove all save games of an existing character before creating a new character."

I've encountered this message before though I was able to ignore it by completing my first characters story in awakening. So I thought I just can't play two different characters in Awakenings till I finish the story line with one certain character.

So my question is, Does anyone know what I can do so I can play with my third character I created? Do I have to delete the saved files I have for both characters and just leave the auto saved files for both characters that I have completed the game with? Or do I have to delete both saved/auto saved files of both my characters?:( [Which would suck...]

P.S I downloaded the game off of XBL just incase that makes a difference.

And where are the game saves stored? I wemt to systems but only saw Dragon Age Origins and did not see any of the Awakenings games saves. Can someone point me to the directory for the DA:A game saves?

I had a the same error, but for the main game. I completed a playthrough of Awakening, and thought I'd go back and start origins fresh, only to be greeted with the message "Character limit reached". I was still able to make awakening characters, and even deleting some I started but didn't finish (resulting in a total number of characters less than I have been known to have in the past). Ultimately, The only way for me to play origins was to delete ALL my data from Awakening, effectively meaning that unless this is solved a $40 purchase completely nullified a $60 purchase, which pisses me off enough that I'm actually posting on this forum.

As to the location of saved data, that depends on your system. If, like me, you play on 360, the data is saved under DA:O, but the save files will be listed as E1...usual info.

Please, Bioware, fix this issue. That, or pony up $60 since essentially my Origins was stolen (and, standard principle dictates that an object is valued at its price of purchase until it is intended to be resold, which it was not and therefore requires no new valuation to current market rate.)

Some indication that this issue has been noted and is being fixed would be ideal.

The same happened to me after completing Awakening twice – tried to start a new game in Origins and the message popped up. I didn't have time to test if deleting characters had any effect.

Maybe I'll move the saves to an external drive, if the problem persists, but nevertheless this is frustrating.

How many origins characters do you have? Dragon Age: Origins has a cap of 10 player characters. So if you already have 10 characters and you want to make another one then you have to delete one of your existing characters. I was wondering if Awakenings would up the cap. Between Origins and Awakenings do you have 10 characters already?

I really wish we could have more that 10 characters. There are so many ways to play a character, and I liked the game so much, I wanted to play more than 10. It is really sad to have to delete a 50 or 60 hour character to make way for a new one. I might like to import the old one at some point.

As for the expansion, what happened to me was that I had 8 characters and slots for 2 more left in the original game....I thought. But, when I imported 2 of my characters to the expansion and then tried to go back and start a new character in Origins, I got the character limit message. So, the expansion saves took up my last 2 available character slots for the original game. Apparently, though, if you create characters for all 10 slots in the original game before you play the expansion and then import a character, the expasion saves will save in a new slot beyond the 10. But, if you had a slot open in the original game and import a character it will take up a slot for a character in the original game. I have not played the expansion enough to know how many characters you can import if you did manage to save 10 characters in the original game before starting the expansion.

I really wish you could just make up and play as many characters as you want. I have at least 4 different ways I wanted to approach a mage, 3 different ways to approach a rouge, and a couple of ways to make up a warrior, and that doesn't even include all the different race story lines. It really seems to me more than 10 game saves would be much appreciated. Dragon Age Origins is such a fantastic game I like to return and try something different each time I play it through. Only 10 character save slots is a problem, particularly when the expansion wants to take up any slots that were still available.

I completely agree - I really don't understand why there is a limit on character numbers at all so long as there is space on the system. I have 5 complete playthroughs still on my hard  drive - 2 of which i've imported to Awakenings, along with 1 new file to play as an Orlesian Warden. However being a complete origin story junky i very frequently create a new character, play for a bit and then decide I want to be a different gender/class/race ^_^ So i frequently have to delete characters i'm half way through the game with to make room for new ones. Very frustrating.

If someone form Bioware could let us know if there was any chance of a patch to get rid of the limit that would be hugely appreciated.

Character Limit, what two wonderful words, just give me a feeling of be cheated. maybe bioware only know how to make packs and sell them on net, then get more and more players' money. i think they dont care about the feeling of players, they just know earn more and more money from players and kick them out the game.

Nice to see others have the same concerns. I had 10 characters in Origins and when I went to import my character to Awakening I also got the message that I reached the character limit and I needed to delete my character saves. So 10 is all you can have between both games on the 360.

But I found a way around it. it's a pain but it works. If you have a memory card for the 360 it's mb storage is 52 megs. Your character game file is 17 megs. You can only copy 1 game save of that character you want to your memory card and can copy up to at least 2 character of choice maybe 3 if the memory card will allow the 3rd character game save file then your memory card will be at 51 megs used of the 52 available on the memory card. Now delete your character files off the hard drive that you have just copied to the memory card. This will open up your character slots so you can at least import 3 characters into the Awakening expansion but now your character limit is back up to 10. That's ok now take your memory card and copy your 3 character saves back to your hard drive on your 360 and you will have your original 10 Origin characters and 3 characters for Awakening.

I have tested this method with at least 1 of my 10 character and imported a character to the Awakening expansion and then I copied my character from my memory card and I have 11 characters total in my character menu to choose from. You could extend this idea with a second hard drive, your memory card, but you would keep having to copy your gamer tag back and forth between hard drives so you could back up your characters game save that you have created and want to keep, but the process is tiresome.

The first shame is a that you are limited to 10 characters only.

The second shame is that you can only delete a character directly from your hard drive.

It would be nice to have a secondary option where you could delete your game save file while your either in the load menu or in the save menu for that character.

It nice to have options.

Well Ronny, what I did first was I had made 10 characters then I deleted any extra save files for each independent character while I was logged into my 360 account from my hard drive. This just made it easier to focus on a single game save for each individual character and memory storage purpose for the memory card. A USB flash card or memory stick as called will work better for more memory storage on the 360 memory card only if you have one if not the 360 memory card will only hold 3 individual game saves or character saves of a character.

Then I used a xbox 360 memory card and went to my hard drive on my 360 and in stead of copping my independent character to the memory card I used the move file to the memory card.

After the I removed my memory card. Then I launched my Dragon Age game and went to load a game then I changed to select another character.

And in the character menu it shows the I have 7 characters to choose from so I created 3 more characters and now I reached the character limit.

I quit the game and ejected it then I plugged in my memory card and then went through the process of copying the other 3 characters on my memory card to my hard drive, then removed my memory card.

After this I loaded my game back into the cd played on the 360 then started the game and then again went to select a different character to play with.

And in the character menu where you can choose which character you want to load their game file and play. In this menu it now shows that I have 13 characters to choose from.

So I recently took it further to see how many more character I could create and play with.

I now have 15 individual character I can play the game with. 2 are for Dragon Age Awakening and 13 are for Dragon Age Origins.

You have to remember not to have your memory card plugged into your xbox 360 after you have moved your character to the memory card because the system will take into account the memory cards game files along with the hard drives memory game files and the game will register all files for Dragon Age if you are trying to creat any new characters and you will get the message that you have reached your character limit.

For Xbox 360 Only

Let's say for sake of argument you have already created 10 characters for Dragon Age Origins.

and you want to create an 11th character. The game system will say you have reached your

character limit and you will need to delete a character and all of the game saves associated with

a game character. This mean your character and if their are 1 or more game saves for this

character will need to be deleted in order to make a new character.

So you delete your character and all the associated game save for this character and then

you are now able to create a new character.

So you create your new character and you now have 10 characters again and you go to create

an 11th character again and get the your have reached the character over limit message again.

So you think ok. Now you have decided to either purchase the Dragon Age Awakening and

down load the game add-on or you purchased the cd and are ready to play.

You figure that ok the expansion will hopefully open up the character limit or it will

allow you to import all of your 10 characters to the new expansion Dragon Age Awakening.

So you go to import a character into Dragon Age Awakening an find that the game comes

up with the message you have reached your character limit and once again the message

asks you to delete your character and all of it's game saves.

So you do just that and delete all your character's game save and then pick another

character to import into Dragon Age Awakening. Hey it works....great. So now you decided

to create another character or import another character into Dragon Age Awakening and

guess what you get the character limit reached message again.

With Dragon Age Origins the game system will only allow you to have up to 10 characters.

With Dragon Age Awakening the game system will only allow you to have some combination

of characters that you have with Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age Awakening.

Example :

Dragon Age Origins = 10 Characters only

Dragon Age Awakening = 9 Characters in Dragon Age Origins and 1 Character in Dragon Age

Awakening which totals 10 characters only.

But their is hope! And a way around this limitation and you can increase you individual

characters and be able to play with more of your characters with in both games.

Note:

For those you do not know how to gain access to your xbox 360 hard drive

fallow steps 1 through 13.

For those you do know how to gain access to your xbox 360 hard drive

fallow steps 7 through 13.

This step by step process is written for people who have a very basic knowledge only.

Note: You have to be logged into you xbox 360 account in order to copy, move or transfer

your game save files from your hard drive to your memory card with the process

listed below.

Process On How to Extend the Amount of Characters

For Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age Awakening.

(1) log into your xbox 360 with your account.

(2) press the dash button and scroll through the tabs

all the way to the right and find the words settings

and click on the this word to go to the next window.

(3) Scroll through the list of words and find the word

memory and click on this word to go to the next window.

(4) Scroll through the list of words and find the word

Hard Drive (HDD) and click on this word to go to the next window.

(5) Now you are in the hard drive section and can view all you

game saves. Scroll through the list of your main game saves and

locate your Dragon Age Origins game file and then click on this

file Icon to gain access to your sub menu game save files.

(6) Here you will find each individual game save file for your

character or characters.

(7) character files are listed with the name of the character,

area of the game and a list of numbers which is the year/month/day/time

and each game save file is 17 Mb in size.

(8) Plug in your memory card ( xbox 64 Mb memory card or USB Flash Card

memory card).

(9) Click on your character game file and the 3 options will appear as to ask you

what you want to do with the file. Delete, copy or move the file.

(10) Choose the move file option to move your character save file to your

memory card.

(11) For a xbox 360 memory card you can only hold up to only 3 game saves for

1 character or 3 individual character saves. A xbox 360 64 Mb card once

formatted is 52 Mb storage.

A USB memory card once formatted size is biased on whatever the cards

Mb or Gb are and will be formatted accordingly for the amount of storage

available once the card has been formatted through your device options for

the USB card once you have formatted the card. So with more file size

storage you will be able to move all save files for your character or characters

if you choose to.

(12) After you have moved the amount of your individual character game save

or all save files to your memory card keep pressing the B button to back

out of all collapsed menu screen to get back to your main dash screen.

(13) Now remove your memory card.

(14) Open your CD drive door and place in your Dragon Age Origins game and

close the cd drive door and wait until the game has loaded in to the title

start screen.

(15) Click on start to begin game.

(16) Here you will be able to resume your last game save, Load a game save,

or start a new game, for those who are new to the game.

(17) Choose to load your game and from with in this menu you will be able to

select other characters the you have created by pressing the X button to

gain access to the next menu which displays all your character identities.

(18) So lets say you had your 10 characters on the hard your hard drive and

you move 3 or more to your memory card. But now when you are in the

character screen to choose any of your characters that their save files are

stored on your hard drive. You will notice that their are now only 7

characters to choose from. By moving your 3 character to your memory

card this will open up your character slots to be able to create 3 new

character types of choice.

(19) Now create your 3 new characters which will give you a total of

10 characters again. That's ok.

(20) Now exit your Dragon Age Origins game and now that you are back at

the title screen eject your Dragon Age Origins disk.

(21) Insert your memory card into it's proper slot on your Xbox 360 and then

fallow steps 1 through 3 to gain access the menu screen of the Xbox 360.

In this Memory window it will display your hard drive and your memory

card. Click on your memory card and the newly opened window will

display your Dragon Age Main File. Simply high light the file if not already

high lighted and press the Y button for device options and here you can

copy the entire file to your hard drive.

(22) Now once your files have been transferred, press the B button continually

to exit out of your menu screens to get back out to your dash board screen.

(23) Now remove you memory card.

(24) Now reload your Dragon Age Origins CD again and wait until the main title

screen come up and then press start.

(25) Here you will want to go to the load game option again and access this

menu once again and press on the X button to show all of your playable

characters. Now here you will notice when you count your characters that

you now have your 13 characters total. These characters can be any

combination of either 7 Origin Characters and 6 Awakening Characters

or all 13 can be Origins Character or all 13 can be Awakening characters

ect.

(26) The game system will automatically register your other game characters

because the game if forced to read the character save files and you

can play through any or all of those character you have created.

.

(27) To make more characters just keep repeating the process of moving you

individual characters save file to your memory card to open up more

room to make new characters, and then move the characters from the

memory card back to the hard drive after you have made the newly

created characters to expand the number of characters to play with.

Also remember to remove your memory card before you load in your

game because if you only have 7 characters on your hard drive

and 3 on the memory card and the memory card is still plugged into

your xbox 360, when you go to load your Dragon Age Origin game

the game will consider your 7 game save files on the hard drive and

the 3 game saves on the memory card and if you try to create a

new character the system will say that you have reached your character

limit once again.

I found it very odd that there was no option to delete a saved game IN the game. Now that I've reached the character limit, having to come to the forums to find out how to delete a save, and the fact that I need to do it through the 360's memory management... It's all very sloppy.

If they can't add a way to delete save files and characters, they should at least try to update the character limit message with instructions on HOW to delete a file.

EDIT: Looking at the saves...  Name_Location_random number.  This is extremely useless.  How am I to know which of my Daylen_Auto-save_2010040####### files is the autosave for the level 1 Daylen that had the wrong eye-color that I abandoned?  I want to delete THAT Daylen.  Not the level 24 Daylen who fought the Archdemon.

I have created 18 total characters. After I created my characters the only thing I ran into was when I

started my Dragon Age Origins game the game said the game had an error reading my online storage. This is not a worry or problem. To resolve this issue just log into your account on

http://social.bioware.com and got to where you manage your characters and delete some of the

character names. This will not delete your characters off your xbox 360 so do not worry. And you can still play them on the 360 and in time the dragon age server will update your character information as necessary. I now have 11 characters showing in my online character management section. And I have no issues as of yet with the game tellling me it has a problem with my online character information.

I have this problem as well. I can create new characters in Awakening but not in Origins. I can also play Darkspwn chronicles if I play through Awakening but not through Origins. I have deleted mayby 5-6 characters but nothing helps.

The 10-cap is actually a 5-cap if you import characters into Awakening as well, don't start any new Awakening wardens, and don't have a save file for darkspawn chronicles.

I've had to delete a few characters that I spent a good 20 hours or more on. I hate this crap.

Any chance on the character limit being removed? It's really annoying getting the DLC and having to delete saves to be able to play them. At this point if I want play through DAO, Awakening, and the DLC(including the upcoming Witch Hunt) 5 characters saves are taken up if I keep them all. That's half the character limit. I know people on PS3 have the same issue. Please remove this silly and unneeded limitation.

I don't know why but actually using my Awakenings disc (just got it back) actually let me import my characters to play the newest golem dlc. Is this a requirement that I missed or just a bug? Why didn't my original Dragon Age Origins disc let me play an imported character on Golems of Agopsdjsfj?

Well whatever...at least it works now. Morrigan here I come!

You can only have 10 characters.  Origins and Awakening create separate files. So, if you have say Sereda played with Origins, and then import Sereda to Awakening, you now have 2 of your 10 character slots used.  Very annoying, no way to fix it except to delete the Origins character, if you aren't going to do him/her anymore.
