After loading Awakenings, all my Origins specializations are now locked. All. Of. Them. And that sucks.

 - ex. Starting a new character in Origins now requires me to re-unlock specializations.

Additionally, the Awakenings specializations do not carry over to other characters within Awakenings.

- ex. Imported character #1 and bought new specializations. Imported character #2 or began as an Orlesian Warden and have to purchase the books again to open them.

I sent a request for Customer Service already and received a "We'll respond in 24 hours" email on Friday. No response as of today (Monday). Awesome.

To add insult to injury, the specializations remain locked for all new characters on both ORIGINS and AWAKENINGS even after I re-unlocked them all again.

Okay, now I'm pissed. Here is what customer support emailed me today as the answer to my problem:
If you're having issues uploading any of your Dragon Age: Origins characters to the BioWare Social Site, make sure you have port 18081 open. Be sure you have the requisite ports mentioned in the game manual(s) open as well: 80 (TCP/UDP), 8000 (TCP), 8001 (UDP), and 443 (TCP).

Image IPB...Not what I asked. Not even close. I don't even have Xbox Live. All I want to do is unlock previously unlocked specializations for new characters in ORIGINS. At this point AWAKENINGS is shelved, as in "will never play again. Ever."

Someone named Roberto at EA obviously put my trouble ticket into the wrong queue. Can anyone help me?

I've cleared the cache, restarted, loaded older characters with all specs open and then reloaded new characters... any other suggestions?

I wish I could help you but I have no idea what else you could try, you've gone through all the steps that I've read about. I have not had this problem so I'm unsure of what exactly should be done. What I would suggest is to attempt a live chat with EA, once you get someone like that it will be much easier to explain what is going on.

What happens if you unlock it a specialization again? Does it stay open for future playthroughs after that?

I'm in the same boat that Image IPB.

Like I mentioned before, I had to;

Delete my gamer profile ( Yep, completely ).

Start a new one, and delete the cache.

And playthrough Origins again to re-unlock them.

At this point I can play DA:O all I want with the specializations unlocked, but as soon as I pop in the Awakenings disc, I'm right back to square one.

I returned Awakenings. And will not be playing it again period, until we get an offical fix on this issue from Bioware.

Odd, I had the same problem once when they released the bugged version of RTO, but it got fixed before they released the later version and I haven't had any trouble since.

Sorry for the delay folks,

So the problem is that you unlocked specializations in Origins and they are not showing up in Awakenings. Also Awakenings specs are not available for new Awakenings characters. Are you logged into Xbox Live when you play?

Thanks for responding. So I unlocked all specializations in Origins and then played Awakenings. Two problems resulted from this:

1 - All specializations are locked for new characters in Origins. Even after re-opening them all again, a new character still starts with all locked. Major bummer.

2 - Specializations in Awakenings do not stay open for more than one character. I played the game once and opened everything but then tried to play again and learned if the character was imported from Origins, the Origins specs are unlocked, but not the Awakenings ones. Starting a new character in Awakenings starts with no specs unlocked. Again, I had played through once before and previously unlocked them all.

No Xbox Live for me. This was all from the discs.

I have cleared the cache multiple times and tried other work-arounds, but with no luck. Aside from deleting the Dragon Age game file from the hard drive and starting over without loading Awakenings, I've tried pretty much everything I can think of. (which is probably not that much as I'm certainly not an expert)

Please let me know if there is any other info I can provide. Thanks for looking into the issue.

The only solution is to clear the cache and re-download your profile from Xbox Live.

In my case, I downloaded that same corrupted patch from Awakenings awhile back and used this solution to re-unlock the specializations. Nothing else worked for me.

Xbox Live Silver is for free and Gold is available free for a month. You really only need a cable to connect it to a router to access the interwebs.

I'm sorry, but this is the only solution that works consistently to recover what you've lost.

In any case, I'll knock some heads over for you at EA customer support. I know some people who work there. Least I can do to help you out.

I don't have Awakenings, but I declined the "available update" today and now they're all gone for me too; new and old characters. They were fine and  all there 3 hours ago.

edit:
NVM the game is messing with me by forcing me to sign in and update or get screwed over with my specs 9_9

Ok, you'll need to make an xbox live account (doesn't matter which one, silver, gold, whatever) and grab the latest patches. This won't recover what you have lost but it will let you hold onto achievements and specs that you get from this point further. This should work, but please post if the situation doesn't improve.

I have also had this problem and the latest patches have not helped. Any new game I start still shows all the specializations as being locked, and I have re-unlocked them and it is still not doing anything. The same problem is happening in Awakenings as well.
