Hello all.
I am a modder but i prefer to play though the game first before i mod it hense I am asking this question instead of finding it out my self which i usually do. If nobody can answer, no worries, I'll just find it out when i do start modding this game.
My question is:
Am I correct in assuming quest mods add their new locations to the existing theda map in the game and work along side the official plots as new locations or modifed versions of old locations ?
For those who wonder why I am asking this, playing the game gives me plenty of ideas as to want to add to the game to expand on what was missing. I have already read both books to keep my finger on the lore pulse and i might add some lore based areas to the game later with sub quests of their own. If these work as stand along quests, it will be okay but clearly not as much fun as if they where added to the existing map as a new location.
The end result will be a lot more to do in the game than currently exists IF they are added to the default map alongside the official plot locations.
Hense the question.

What you're referring to is addons; these can be added to any campaign module. So yes, technically you could create an addon, and then import it into the Official Campaign as a side quest area, much like Warden's Keep or Honnleath.

Thank you for the answer danien.grey.
I assume a large number of addons can be added to the official campaign that way ?
(this is what I am hoping is supported)

You can add a large number of addons that way, yes.
However....
If two addons (from two different people) attempt to modify the same files - like adding different things to the same area, bad things may happen.
We have not really seen this happen yet, but I expect this problem to become apparent in a few months. At that time we might see some "compilation" addons where the changes have been merged.
However, as long as your addons modify different game resources, everything should be fine.

Thanks Adinos
It is expected I guess, still not a problem for me.
I'll be producing new locations with new voice work and stuff so it should not be a problem. Also I am familiar with the "not editing the same area issue" from other games so I'll be watching out for that one and having a feel around to see where the limitations are so i know what i can safely work on.
All new games require the modder to relearn how to mod things, this is just what i expected to be case. I am just glad the addon system works as i thought it would.
Thanks everybody for answering my questions
You readers should expect to see a series of lore based location addons appearing from me in the future, usually with quests.
