There are plenty of complaints about the way Liara was handled in ME2. Some people like her new attitude, some don't. People may make the argument that she's been "hardened" and that's why her personality is different, or however it goes. I didn't like the personality change but I can buy it. You have a terrible two years and you change a bit, that's plausible.

But I don't buy that she had a terrible two years and suddenly got tremendously stupid. She was there on Ilos. She talked to Vigil. She went inside Shepard's mind and saw the visions from the beacons. She knows everything there
is to know about the reapers, she knows it better than anybody else in the galaxy except Shepard himself.

The fact that Liara doesn't recognize her revenge is a petty triviality compared to THE REAPERS irks me to no end. That was one of the things I always liked about her was how smart she was. Nobody who's seen what she's seen should see any reason to focus on something else above that. It just doesn't make sense.

yeh totally agree since Liara was always my ME1 Li but on the flip side of the coin if you've been keeping up with the comic it turns out the shadow broker was dealing directly with the collectors trying to obtaining shepard's body. Meaning that perhaps when she finally catches up with the shadow broker shes not only getting revenge but I believe she may very well retrieve information that is crucial for ME3. I think this is a very well founded belief if you also take into consideration that she still is the *ONLY* squad member from either ME1 and ME2 that in no possible way can be killed I mean heck out of the 6 from the first game and with kasumi 12 in this game meaning a total of 15 squad from both games your looking at only 1/15 characters that has invincibility I think that fact alone speaks volumes for the importance of Liara in ME3.

Another fact that has been brought up by a few people is that though Liara seems much different at first glance if you happen up some of the further dialogue about how she gave you to cerebrus you actually can see the real Liara in there. I really believe that yes she has become obsessed but early during the initial conversation she tells you that she wishes she could talk to you like normal but shes concerned about prying eyes and ears on Ilium which makes sense considering shes not only a powerful information broker but also after The *Shadow Broker* . I think that the ME2 Liara is yes a bit different but I believe its actually more of a mask shes wearing than anything .

I know what you feel, though not with the same reason.... Liara reunion scene didn't have any background music, like Kaidan, Ashley, Wrex, or even Garrus and Tali, She felt like another npc, like Giana Parasini, Helena Blake, or even Fist. I first thought that she didn't even relevant anymore when I watch that.

She's been through a super traumatic incident and she's barely an adult. No matter how brilliant she is, she's not a terminator. She obviously has stuff to work out, and she's also out of her element.

Makes as much sense as the Council or the human squad member (Alenko or Ashley) turning their back on you... i.e., very little.

oooor you could wait and find out what actually happened before passing judgement.

Personally, I hope depending on how you deal with her quest in Illium, that when she confronts the SB, she dies. I mean, to each their own I suppose on their LIs but I just honestly dont see what it is about Liara that is apparently so facinating.

I'm going to wait for ME 3 and see what happens with her. At least she game me some sugar when I went and saw her on Illium. I mean hell ashley/kaiden LI just hugged you. There wasn't even a smooch. Liara I will save her from her evil ways of revenge and bring her back home to Daddy shepards lap in ME 3 and yes it was a dang good kiss.

But that's exactly my point. It doesn't matter what actually happened, unless she's dealing with something worse than the reapers (which would render the main plot of the trilogy rather contrived if she were), it doesn't matter what actually happened. My point still stands.

I couldn't have said it any better. This is something that has been in my head for a while, and while I do undestand that she does have this huge personal problem, helping Shepard should be anyone's priority, especially for someone like her. The thing is that BioWare didn't want to have her as a squad in ME2, and that was the way they did it. The only thing that might excuse the path that BW took with her, is IF in her mission (wheather with Shepard or not), she finds an important information about the Reapers. And this is a possibility given that she's dealing with the SB. Hopefully something like that will happen, and then the story will make more sense, and her character between the games will be more coherent.

Liara's always had an obsessive streak in her. Don't forget that she wanted to stop and talk to Vigil while Saren was rushing towards the Conduit.

Its just that she changed the focus of her obsession from the Protheans to killing the Shadowbroker.

I want her to die facing the SB no matter what.  I like the idea of the SB being so enmatic bad ass that no one can take down, and not some one who gets chumped by one asari in a couple years time.  And honestly if you know who someone is and where they are, you can assisnate them if they aren't under stupid levels of security.  Liara being a threat while she is chilling in an office in illium is immersion breaking in the extreme for me.  If she was a real threat her office would of super novaed with her in it a while back.

I agree that the handling of Liara left me with a "wtf" taste in my mouth. But I'm hoping this is just a set up to some awesome conclusion to her storyline. Liara was the epitome of how a lot can change in two years. I have a feeling Ash and Kaidan have some differences to their old characters as well (that we've yet to see), but this glimpse of Liara was both unnerving and exciting.

I'm really hoping for some Shadow Broker dlc where you can help her take him down. I'm realizing actually that the SB owes me a favor since I gave him that data in ME1 on a hunch. I hope they don't let that sub-plot die.

I have a theory that they held her character back to be fair to the ones who romanced ash/kaidan.

See, now I never gave the SB anything. I gave the cerberus information to the Alliance.

I agree with the OP.

I was also a bit perturbed by the lack of 'Vigil music' for the Liara reunion. It played for Ash and Kaidan on Horizon, it played for Wrex on Tuchanka. Hearing that music playing in the background was moving and it added to the mood of the reunion. I would assume it didn't play for Tali/Garrus because they are recruitable ME2 squad mates hence don't require an invoking of a sense of 'connection with times from the past' as the non-recruitable ME1 squad mates do.

With the Liara reunion, it leaves one with a sense that she's disconnected from the past and present.  She's off in her own little word, focused on killing the Shadow Broker.

Heh, i never really thought about ituntil you posted this, but you're right. Her motivation is just wrong in ME 2. It does serve to illustrate what has changed in 2 years, however, which is nice enough on its own that I can overlook the problems with motivation.

I do agree it would be totally badass if SB takes her down though, you just don't **** with the SB.

Hello! Earth to Liara!

This is why I think it would be great dlc.  The SB plot isn't all that important in the grand scheme of things what with the Reapers coming and all.  But it IS important to Shepard as Liara is important to Shepard.  I'm hoping for not only a resolution to whatever SB stuff is going on, but also an opportunity for Shepard to hold the mirror up in front of Liara and for her to see what she's become.

...then we can awesome adorable, level-headed, but still bad ass Liara again for ME3.

I honestly hope for something like this...a reason why Liara is the way she is.  We'll see what happens when the last comic book issue comes out here shortly.
