Just attempted killing her and.......YIKES!
She facerolled my party in seconds.
I had Sten and Alastair tank her with Wynne healing while my Ranger was DPSing. She killed my tanks in seconds and by the time my party is dead we hardly put a dent in her. I'm actually not that far in to the game. After the origins story and Ostagarde I went to Lorthering. First place I went to was the mage tower then a play through the DLC Warden's Keep. After that I went to attempt Flemeth.
Am I doing something wrong or do I just need to wait until I get farther into the game before I attempt it? You need a ****load of fire resistance for this fight and I'm not to sure where to get it. If anyone has downed her please let me in on your tactics.

I believe I heard a bioware rep say on some video interview, that it's the second hardest fight in the game

Believe you might wan't to go a bit deeper, Morrigan is one tough cookie to charm and I doubt her quest would be easy.
I beat her on easy =/ but even then she was hard, my tactic was simply to constantly circle Flemeth my warrior (no specialization) while Leliana rained arrows.. Alistair had to endure the brunt of the flame breath but he managed to get the final strike and a awesome finisher
You will get hit by the tail sweep but at least only a few will get hit by the fire.
Again I beat flemeth on easy so I have no idea if it will work on normal+

Seems accurate. The only thing is I don't understand why you have the option of doing it so early in the game. It was a piece of humble pie to say the least.

well, you are told that she is a witch of the wild that has survived for thousands of years and is one of the most powerful beings on the planet, been hunted by armies dozen of times, has found a way to become immortal...I'm guessing you forgot most of that

That's the last time I listen to Morrigan

It's a fight that's all about positioning. You have to have your tank face her away from the group for flame breaths, but you can't have anyone standing behind her because of her tail. At the same time, get too far forward and she can swipe at you and the tank with her claws. Get too far back and she can donkey kick you with her rear legs. Plus, you have to micromanage the hell out of your healer while you're trying to get everyone in place because the whole time she's murdering your tank. Try to just use Rejuvinates at first and save your actual 'Heal' spell for when she grabs your main tank, because he takes a LOT of damage in a very short period of time (I had to use my heal spell and group heal one after another to keep him alive, although he didn't have a great Constitution rating at the time).
It was made even harder by the fact that I couldn't have Morrigan with me, since she was generally my top damage dealer.
The good news is that after that, every fight except the Broodmother was a breeze.

I was able to kill her on my third attempt by using a typical dragon strat. Face her away from the group, have another melee flank her, have a ranger shoot her, and have the healing mage on standby for heals. I went through sooo many pots though, I used up abut 20+ mana pots. Killed her on normal. I think I was around lvl 12.

I played on easy and managed to beat her after what felt like an hour long fight. She took down both Alistair and Wynne almost immediately, and it was just me and Shale with a ton of health poultices chipping away at her. Shale's stoneheart abilities (I think stoneheart, anyway) allowed it to keep Flemeth focused on it while my little rogue stayed at her rear and backstabbed like crazy. I only had about 10 poultices left by the time my rogue took her final bit of health and did that awesome slow motion take down.

The first time I tried this I got wiped as well, but the second time I breezed through with no party fatalities.
If you have access to Shale, the fight is much, much easier. Equip him with the crystals that give fire resistance (for my playthrough, I had the +30 % ones equipped) and let him be the tank. Have him be the only one who engages Flemeth on the hill. While he's attacking Flemeth, position the rest of your party (for me it was Wynne, my warrior PC and Leliana) on the lower bank away from Flemeth (standing right next to Flemeth's hut - basically where you start the encounter). Have them spread out and take positions away from eachother so that they aren't in a group. I had my warrior PC and Leliana switch to ranged weapons and just hacked away at Flemeth's health using bows/crossbows while Shale with his fire resistant crystals went to town on her. Wynne was focused only on healing everyone, giving particular attention to Shale. If you have health poultices, use them while Wynne's healing spells are recharging.
Doing it like this made the fight so much easier, and I killed Flemeth in around 2-3 minutes. I was playing on normal difficulty.

or...you could use the armor from Killing the High dragon for the Fire resist..then just sit there and poke it with arrows till it dies.

took her down on normal with usin 2pots in total (health), basically just place all your group out of her melee range, away from eachother and pelt her with spells / arrows while you have a tank with alot of +fire resist tank her fireballs (I had shale doing that)

Is there anything in particular you have to do to trigger the finishing move? Or are those things random. My first time killing the ogre at the top of the Tower of Ishal he just fell to the ground. The second time I saw Alastaire's finishing move. The where he jumps on the ogre and plunges his blade in the chest.

I think so long as there's a melee character in range when the killing blow is struck, they'll do the move even if they didn't kill the boss.
If no one's in range, it'll just fall over.
Sometimes it falls over and Alistair does the finishing move anyway. He slays the hell out of the air.

How to face roll every boss in the game:
Use ranged attacks. All bosses do minium ranged damage (or lower then melee damage). Spread your party members out. Equip a bow. And fire away. Remember to heal if required. (if you still have problem due to lack of resistance use fire res potion.

For me, the tower guard did the finishing move^_^

Nothing beats having a ghost character do finishing moves on an Ogre...it looks really really weird. If you wonder what I'm talking about, The 4th Tier Arcane warrior Talent makes you kind of ethereal..sometimes it goes white making you look like a spirit...And then your stabbing things.

I did it around level 14. I lost Alistair once during the fight. Wynne rez'ed him and we won the fight with little issue after that. I put my rogue in the back. Alistair in the front. Archer way outside and Wynne mainly healed. It went pretty smooth and pretty quick. I also had a handful of heal pots to use. But didn't really use many.

I was having a decent strat but it fell short almost at half health when all my fire resistance pots ran out. You have to use alot of consumables on normal difficulty but it seems to work pretty well. Save your fire crystals and warm balm potions and the fire spells she casts won't hurt you too much.

I was able to take her down on normal just kinda brawling her since the other two people in my party are dps and Wynne is set to just heal. It was interesting though, it was my main character that got the killing blow on her, but it didn't replace my most powerful enemy killed being Gaxkang.

I had a bad feeling to kill her, so I talked her down and she gave me the key to the hut and the chest.
Did I miss a lot by not killing her except a hard fight and some XP?

Not really, you missed an awesome finishing move, but other then that all she drops is the key to the house. I had a blast with the fight and it was pretty easy after I had my party drink some warmth balms

its pretty easy for me, Alister was my tank, equiped with lots of fireresistant gear. Wynn my healer, got that bard girl and i am a mage. Remember to use all your warmth balms and fire crystals.
From a far, i cast-ed Tempest and other ice/cold spells on the dragon. wynn healed and bard shot ice arrows.
only alister tanked right infront of the dragon. its pretty easy. my characters are between lvl 14 - 15

That battle was amazing, funnest and hardest. Oraghan and Alistair died 30 secs in leaving my character(rogue) and whynne to finish it off. She healed me as I circled it.
