MMO's have a lack of qaulity and more qauntity of aspects that most players these days find boring and are being constantly repeated on every single MMO game that has recently come out with little to no revolutionary ideas of their own.

If Dragon age had some sort of multiplayer, something like Demonsouls(Invading other players Singleplayer games by fighting the player or helping them in a difficult boss fight that proved to acually be difficult) or multiplayer teamwork puzzle solving/boss battles that would be cool but auction house, quests, leveling, and professions or anything along the lines of grinding or tasks that send you all over the free roaming world... You are talking about grapics witch is a different part of the engine then networking.  All the server does is to send the other computer that my char is here on such and such area of a certain level of given mod and I cast a fire spell or shooting my bow.  The other computer takes the XYZ and what the char is doing and it applies the graphics overlay.  Why not an older engine can't send that type of data? NWN1 can and it is much much older engine then DAO is... We are not  sending graphics info (that is the other computer job), but are send YXZ info to a server

NWN was designed right from the very begining to with a client-server architecture.
As far as I understand from reading forums and looking at process info on my computer, DAO is not designed with such an architecture. An architectural change is not a trivial change. Making DAO work over a network would be very expensive.

As to the more general point of this thread, my answer is "please, no". The world has plenty of swords and sorcery MMOGs. I want Bioware to continue spending money on excellent single-player games.

Well, so many of these threads have been started that I think someone at EA/Bioware has taken notice.

If the demand is high enough, and there is money to be made, the next DA will be an MMO.

You were one of those people who argued against those "whiners"  who opposed DLC. I'm curious to see how you would react if the tables are turned, and you understand what it's like for a gaming company to take the road that makes the most money over your personal wishes.

The problem is it's screaming MMO what with all the lore and all the lands of Thedas (Ferelden, Orlais, etc) and even foreign lands like Par Vollen.

And the constant pausing required to play. Yeah I could see that being really popular in multiplayer, especialy when some idiot always unpauses straight away while the person who paused actualy did so for a reason.

There'd need to be some pretty big changes to the style of gameplay for multiplayer and then it just wouldn't be the same game anymore. And I for one can't say I'd like that (although if Bioware stopped treating constitution as such a dump stat that'd be an improvement too :P).

Additionally: To those of you who think DA can't become an MMO or at least have a multiplayer component:

Remember DA was originially touted as a PC exclusive (those were the days, hah)

Then they changed their tune, but said that the consoles woud have no effect on the PC version

Then later on they announced a really lond delay for the PC version (ostensibly for bug fixing, but actually they wanted to synchronize the PC release with the console versions to maximise profits)

Call me a crazy conspiracy theorist, but it is a fact that Da was originally touted as a PC exclusive, so I don't see how it's impossible for it to become an mmo.

i think it would be pretty cool if you could just invite friends to play campaign with you instead of having every one on one server but you could just invite like your friend to bring his character over and play the campaign

no, no and I mean NO.

why does everyone think that every game would make a good MMO setting.

fact is big settings taht make it into PCrpgs or Vrpgs, only have a portion of that world in the game.
Thedas aint small .

Thedas is not small
Thedas isn't small

for those who like correct grammer.

tell it to someone working on a legal bind agreement...

I like Guild Wars, but the point of Dragon Age is supposed to be the rich storyline. If anyone can do that with an MMO, then hats off to them.

It often occurs to me that MMO players are like the borg... they get sucked in and braindrained, then they forget what an actual game is like.  Then, whenever they encounter a different game they become confused and want all new games to be MMOs as well. It's like a thought virus.

I've seen so many threads on this here I'm tempted to go to Blizzard's forum and start a million topics about how they should turn World of Warcraft into a single player game (i mean hey, it's got lots of lore, and swords and character classes... just like a single player RPG!!)

While I've pondered the thought, I can not see it happening. Not only from the game play stand point but given character Origins it would become a great big mess. People have a thing for wanting to feel special and powerful, everyone would want to be a Warden from a strong line. Even if they included the choice to have other alignments you would see less people playing on the side of 'evil' or otherwise aligned.

Now limited multi-player I could see. A campaign that allows for small groups of Wardens to team up as their characters.

As someone that plays MMORPGs as well as single player games I would like to say that I do understand that not all games are MMORPGs nor should all games become MMORPGs. Mind you, I am loathe to play Blizzard's product.

Wow, if they made this into an MMO the game would be so easy that my Dog could sit at the computer and randomly hit buttons and max level himself!!

It's a moot point though as even EA is smart enough to realise the fantasy MMO market is nearly impossible to successfully break into and return the kinds of profits they would want. They have the Sci Fi pretty much locked up though once KoTOR launches.

The only way I would play DAO as multiplayer is if it were setup like Diablo II. Instead of Massively Multiplayer, you make a direct link to a friend's pc and play two player. That's the ONLY time this would be acceptable in DAO.

If multiplayer was added that would be fine, but I hate the idea of there being a Dragon Age MMO, with fees and 12 year olds running around spouting l33tspe4k with their characters. Something along the lines of the user based NWN servers would be fine. Then players could police their own servers in ways that WoW never could.

Plus MMOs are never truely story based so they never tell any significant stories. Bioware is about story, I'm pretty sure their writers would blow their brains out if they had to make a MMO. In MMO's your characters can't do anything significant and lasting without rediculous plot holes. An example would be in WoW how people would raid a dragon and hang it's head outside their cities. Oh wow...cool the first time you do it, but another guild does the same thing the next day. Hmm, it doesn't feel so special anymore now does it? Oh wait...now the guild is going to farm that dungeon 200 frickin times so everyone gets the set pieces they want. So who cares that you killed the dragon, cut off it's head...ooo, the epic experience is about as significant as beating a kobold to death with a stick at that point. All the instances/dungeons are like this and all MMOs come across the same way.

I sure wouldn't want to have to write rediculous quests like that which contradict the actions of others who do the same darn quests. I think it was one reason why no one could take the WoW roleplay servers seriously. Everyone did everything, every major enemy respawned. At least in privately owned NWN servers the DM staff could manipulate the worlds, make the actions of the players significant and orchestrate plots/stories that meant something.

I'm still suprised Bioware would even touch a MMO through their KoTOR attempt. I think it will tarnish their name as a story focused game developer. At least the Star Wars universe is filled with plot holes and inconsistancies. Thedas lore would sink into a bog of never ending stench if a MMO was framed around it, much like WOW lore kept changing and being rewritten as they patched the game.

I don't think Dragon Age would make a great MMO because it relies heavily on story telling, and that's not an easy thing to implement into an MMO.
