So theoretically you could play NWN with 200 people at once?
If that is the case this could be considered an MMO-standard.

So what is the diff between a PW world and a MMO?

Playerworlds can't handle 100-10000 people at once (Playing in the same world and at the same time with you) while MMOs can.

One of the big differences between MMOs and these online lobbys in games like Diablo and Neverwinter Nights is immersion. A lobby has only a few players, and the creator maintains total control. They don't have to let anyone in who uses text speak, who offers gold farming services, who harasses anything wearing a skirt, who randomly spouts racist comments, etc.

It's like all the fun of multiplayer with none of the drawbacks.

and why not make a DAO like a NWN online world? what peeps call online "lobbys" Remenber not all NWN PW have the same type of problems or even story lines ( lack therefore, but it is up to the player to choose what type of world he or she likes or don't like)

That def might be true with 90's computer hardware, now in 2010, computer hardware is much much faster, thus the lower number of 100 may be much higher what it use to be.  I am talking about software and hardware should not make any differentance.  The server owner may choose to limit his server to only 50 peeps at any one time even if his hardware may support 500 players at once.

I honestly don't know.
Actually I just wanted to post this:

"The only multiplayer function I could imagine would be in the same fashion as NWN2 with your so-called playerworlds.
A simple game set up for a party of 4 players to play together."

Fine by me, why not do that in DAO?  You can be the DM and 3 or 4 other players play YOUR story using DAO graphics and game rules?

High-End PCs might be able to handle such a hoard of players but the game-engine might crumble under the pressure.

You know why there are no news of Singeplayer-games that were somehow modified into MMOs?
Because it's not that simple. MMOs are made from the ground-up to assure a fluent and stable gameplay.

I don't want a MMO anyway, but every time I talk about in my other posts, other forum poster called my idea a MMO -- go figurer... I agree with you, yeah that will be fun (4 peeps online) and that is always been my point, but it was loss in the words... I have done that before with NWN 1 and it was fun and some of the best memories of my life was there...

Since you been nice and willing to talk like a normal human being not a rage demon from the fade, I will let in on a screet :innocent:  I know that Bioware may never make a DAO ( I hope so, but not likely), but I was giving my input for their next game and hope if enough people ask for it, the next will have network support on a small scale;)

Who knows, they might intoduce an online-feature for DAO somewhere in the near future out of free will.

Who says if you have to make a mod based on the OC? Make your story, lore and NPC, quests... You have the toolset, right?

If Bioware made a DA MMO, I would ignore it and pretend it didn't exist. I hate MMOs so much.

May I point out that everyone have different goals on the different aspect of games. Player made single mods can be let of fun also, but also some Muti-player PW mods can be a blast. I never said that Bioware should make a MMO, I said that players can make their own mods, both single and muti-player. Also, Keep in mind not every shoe might fit you (single vs muti) -- neither one of them is right or wrong -- just different people prefer different aspects of the game. In other words, each is their own

I wouldn't mind Bioware throwing PW support into DA, since I loved NWN, but I really want them to focus on singleplayer.

Here is another question for single or muti -player who or want will be charge of player made content to make sure it plays nice with each other? We need to form a group that can do that. Something like like CEP did for NWN 1 (For those who do not know, it was / is the group that fix the models and the 2da reference files in the haks so that all content is compilable with other content and the Bioware's patches, for more info -- just google it)

Dragon Age is a Bioware property, What they decide to do with it´s up to them, As a Dragon Age Fan and a fan of Bioware, I would gladly pay for a Dragon Age MMO, I believe it would be something extra. giving the MMO space something complete new. None of us have played SWTOR yet(Which I think will be awesome.)

Nah no ***ring out my fav single player game. There are plenty of quality MMO's out there. Get one.

I think it is better played as a single player experience.
