Firstly I do not like MMO's at all as I do not believe in buying a game then having to pay per month to play it especially when am already paying for my internet, phone line to use my internet and then £40 a year for Xbox Live.
I seriously hope that Bioware will make KOTOR 3 the first one was fantastic the second although by another developer was great the first one was the best imo, so come on Bioware PLEASE make a fantastic KOTOR just like the first a true star wars rpg single player experience!

Uhm....it is off topic, not "jynthor's playhouse" he has a right to discuss whatever he wants.

I too would rather a KOTOR 3, but lets face facts: They aren't going to scrap a project years in the making for us, and the MMO will likely net more cash unless it is as poorly set up as this site was to start with.

There may be a KotOR 3 in the future; FFXI didn't stop SquareEnix from releasing 12 and 13, did it not?

You don't have to play TOR, no one is forcing you to.

Actually I think I remember hearing in a dev vid that the Star Wars: TOR MMO was KotOR 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 ect.

Also I am not sure FFXI counts as each new FF is set in a new universe isnt it?

I hope it's structured Guild Wars, without the rubbish story or story-telling.

If it's something like that, should be purty gud.

Yeah, that's what they've said, so while we may see another single-player RPG set in the TOR universe, I think it will likely be under a different name.

Personally, while I do really like single-player RPGs, I'm really excited about TOR as well.

Do you have any proof to backup that statement?

No, they aren't.

Lucas Arts cancelled KotOR 3 while they were writing the plot for it.  It's never going to be made.

Bioware is saying that each of the 8 classes has a fully fledged out unique story that basically equates to the length of KotOR story.  They're also saying that the game has more content than would 10 KotOR's combined.

This is the crux of Lucas Arts focus, no other Old Republic game is going to be made within the next 5+ years.

They may change their mind, they may not.
Never say never. Never!

The real best hope for a single-player RPG set in the TOR universe would have to be a totally new franchise that simply lifts the setting.  There really is no reason they have to use the KoTOR brand, it just confuses the consumer.

Yeah, the limited levels and skill slots really made for some refreshing gameplay. Mixing and matching different builds was quite the stand-out aspect at the time.
I don't know how that'd work for a Star Wars game, though...I've always assumed up to now that it'd be something like a superior Tabula Rasa.

I liked Tabula Rasa. With better class balance, enemy variety, and a stronger endgame, that game could have been really great.

I also wanted a KOTOR 3 after that disappointing, broken sequel. It won't happen though.

The problem I see with an MMO set in the Star Wars universe, is that MMOs don't really allow personal excellence. For example, you can't climb the ranks of the Sith and suddenly be a real Sith Lord in the game, directing the actions of other Sith players. A single player or even normal multi-player game can accommodate such things but the nature of an MMO dictates that players are sort of strictly relegated to lower ranking positions in the pantheon so that the playing field is fairer.

Not being able to ascend the ranks and rule the galaxy, like you could at the end of a certain game, sort of makes the whole experience an exercise in futility as you can never become more prestigious than a max-level whoever that has the best gear. Your name will mean nothing in the game universe. That works for many mythologies that are new but with a world like Star Wars, where being the "best" is sort of part of the lore, will cause a huge problem.

I believe they've said that they plan to use phasing heavily, which could alleviate some of these concerns. Essentially it would allow for the visuals of the world to change for you based on your decisions, such as a base being destroyed and thus appearing to be on fire to you and normal for someone else. Making you feel heroic is definitely something they're focusing on, we'll see how well they do with this.

Not sure I'd like what you're talking about. If the Sith band together and destroy something, it should be gone for all parties. I got tired of the whole Alliance vs. Horde thing of WoW and I don't think I would enjoy alternate universes melded together so "good players" can appear to be around "bad players" without direct consequences of that fact.

The thing I'm trying to say is that I'm still waiting for a game that TRULY allows you to be evil. One that quickly punishes the immature "chaotic evil" types that try to run around and incite things and builds a truly complex and rewarding system that benefits those who use manipulation and subterfuge to achieve their goals.

The problem with making choices effect an object or location globally is that based on alignment and faction, the same area may be effected in a different way. It's essentially an effort to accomplish that sense of accomplishment and effect on your surroundings typically only found in single-player games in an MMO. While some issues may arise if you were to talk to someone about a specific location which is dynamic, otherwise I would expect the effect to be convincing.
