I take my chips all back on a game announcement. Now, I think the announcement is going to be about a Bioware con. BW has not enough active IP and upcoming stuff to justify something like that, and the comment about it being related to the community would back that notion up.



That's my bet. Bio-Con.

I think that it will be either an overhaul of the social site, with working achievements, facebook sharing etc or they are trying to mislead us and they will announce the release date, beta and preorders (with ingame items for both DA2 and ME3 to justify the timers on these sites) for SW:TOR.

I'd guess that it's confirmation/official announcement of the new Dragon Age game coming in Feb 2011.

Some stupid update for the social site doesn't need a countdown. This is ridiculous.

Besides, it's better marketing that way. Make people think it has something to do with ME or DA, and wham, TOR release date. Those that never heard of it or haven't checked on it's progress in a while might just be more inclined to do so.

If its for some dumb MMO I'm going to be annoyed. Even a tacky update for the social site would be better than that rubbish.

Quite obviously they are going to officialize ME3 and DA2!

...and maybe a new franchise as well.

Well, good for you, but MMO's rake in huge business if done right. I don't see what's wrong with trying to promote it, especially to pre-established BioWare fans.

No. If they're World of Warcraft. Every other MMO is just a massive drain on the Dev's resources. Look at what happened to Tabula Rasa, or Age of Conan.

I see several people saying this. To lay your fears at ease, here are the facts.
Jade Empire and The Old Republic have their own sites (much the same as ME and DA) and neither have the countdown.
As such, this countdown is something pertaining to the Mass Effect and Dragon Age line of games. Most likely some DLC, albiet, a cool one.

BioWare has become very marketing-reliant in selling all the products they've put out lately.
But now the products are out after all those years of work. The initial selling period is over. The marketing is over.
So now what are they to do, these marketers with nothing to market at the moment? My guess is they came up with a BioWare Convention (as another poster suggested) or some other self-promotional event. Or maybe it is just a social site "makeover" with a couple bells and whistles at it. And this countdown is just drumming up the hype for something that NEEDS the hype and would fail without it. It's marketing the marketing.

Either way, my expectations are very, very low.

Hmm...if it's Bioware convention (bio-con), then I hope it's close by so I could visit.

Bioware employees will be thrown for a loop if they meet me in real life. I look nothing  like the typical pasty gamer they have in mind when they make their games, yet I am a fan.
