Baldur's Gate has been on consoles though (Dark Alliance 1 and 2), although it's not the same one.
But it depends if they can streamline the gameplay and ruleset enough to work correctly on a console; the PC has always been the superior platform for "proper" CRPGs for various reasons (one of which is the fact it utilizes the keyboard and mouse, which allows a greater degree of control).
Also depends who makes it; BioWare can't because EA would have to buy the D&D license, and that depends on if Atari will sell it. Obsidian are my first choice for it because Interplay's still a bit rocky.
It's even worse than that. Thanks to mess with Turbine and Wizards of the Coast both suing Atari, the D&D license probably won't change hands until those cases are resolved. Nor are chances high for the release of any new D&D games at all. A Baldur's Gate III announcement would be about the most shocking possible reveal BioWare could make in my opinion. Moreso than a proper KotOR sequel.
I think we can safely rule out Bioware announcing a Baldurs Gate 3 or any game within the Forgotten Realms, as I said in an earlier post we could see a new game that goes under the title Baldurs Gate but odds are it wont be developed by Bioware. Of course anything is possible but a new Baldurs Gate being developed by Bioware is highly unlikely.
But what I dont get is why people want to see a Baldurs Gate 3? I mean yeah the original games released by Bioware were great but Throne of Bhaal diddnt really leave room for a 3rd game, besides if a new Baldurs Gate is released then odds are it will have nothing to do with the story of the original and the only similarity it will have with the original games is that it will share the same name and involve the city of Baldur's Gate.
Besides by calling the game Baldurs Gate it is obvious that the producers are relying on the success and the good reputation of the games that Bioware released to market the game regardless of its content, can anyone here who played the Dark Alliance games honestly say that they diddnt pick up the game because of the fact that they used the same name as the previous Bioware titles? Honestly if they are going to make another game within the Forgotten Realms I would prefer that they set it within another area of the world.

BG3? No freaking way. Not only because BW doesn't own the licence anymore, but also because the mere rumor or hint that BG3 was being made would've been leaked a long time ago. Only company that's apparently able to keep the lid on their projects when awesome sequels are involved appears to be Blizzard (SC2, D3?).Ivandra Ceruden wrote...
Badur's Gate 3 would be awesome... but it's more likely the Bio staff's gonna use that to fool us on the 1th of April... They are so cruel...

Whatever it is, I'm sure it'll be spectacular. I'm sure awhile back I heard they were working on a MMORPG, perhaps star wars related - although I'd hope for a Dragon Age one. I'm sure they want to eat into Blizzard's money pie!
It's called Star Wars: The Old Republic. And it's been known about for some time.

Actually Atari themselves have hinted at a new Baldurs Gate game being developed, I dont know who will be developing it or even if they will actually go through with it but I am pretty sure Bioware wont be developing it.

Also while trying to find that information I did come across another bit of info that might be interesting to consider, it is a bit old but it does hint at Bioware having a new game under a new IP in the works, could be our reveal once the counter reaches zero.

Bioware have had an unannounced "next gen" game for ages, I'm guessing it that.
I would love it to be a open world RPG, if anyone could make a one with a good story it would be Bioware.
Now that would be a blessing and I agree - if anyone can get it done it's BioWare. Fandom is such an interesting thing... being part of it even more.
Then again, it could be DLC for ME2? Post it on both sides makes sense since a lot here on the forum played both games. But then again... patience... patience... patie*bangs head on table*

It's pretty obvious that it's going to be Dragon Age 2. We were already given a teaser in the Dragon Age Awakening box so it's fitting that this will be a followup to that.
