Well after finishing Awakenings all I can say is WOW what a waste.

This seems like a very slimmed down version of the original game with most of the items in the game really doing nothing. There is no reason to use your LOVE ITEMS to get a characters love for you up. There is no romance factor in this expansion nor anyone you would want to romance at all. Most of the items you can buy really serve no purpose. The game feels exactly like the first Dragon Age on a MUCH shorter basis. You don't really care for these characters.. You dont really care about this story even though you have seen it before in the first game. This seems like the BETA of Dragon Age without the amazing story, sense of love for the characters in your party and really just boring.

You can't tell me that we couldn't do side stories in Dragon Age using the same characters or even something better then HEY your another person in another part of the map.

Really a complete waste of money on this title. And worst of all it was 40.00 for what should have been 20.00 at best if that.

Obviously there are some of us who disagree with you.  I'm very much enjoying Awakening thank you.  As for the price, my net enjoyment of Awakening exceeded my net enjoyment of many games that were either longer, flashier graphics, etc.  Bottom line was you and I both made decisions to purchase something that cost $40.00.  I would pay that again myself and hope Bioware continues to release expansions or stories that extend the original campaign or further the DAO world.

Not trying to say your opinion doesn't count because you didn't like the game, just wanting voice some support and to point out that your experience isn't authoritative for the community at large.

(I will say however that there are some folks on here who have experienced what sound like fairly severe bugs, I did not.  My game has been fine thus far.)

For me it was and is worth every penny and every minute I've spent on it. I love Awakening, and l look forward to applying the new talents, spells, and specializations to various custom mods I have in mind working on. This expansion has definitely added to my expected long-term enjoyment of the game.

I agree with OP but don't we have enough of these threads already? They're also better written. I could have spent or put that 40$ toward something better though.
Like cigarettes...
or Mass Effect 2...
or a new camera...

How do I just want attention. If you don't like something you let the company know your feelings. Clearly Bioware reads these posts. This game was a flop and lacked almost everything. Feels not finished, story is poor and you really dont care about these characters. None of this story really did anything for me.

that, or they dont want their post buried in a 20 page thread..  people have a right to express their opinion on a FORUM, even if you dont agree with them.. i understand the forum can get cluttered, but so can a 20 page thread, and sometimes if you want your concerns heard, you need to express them in a seperate thread.  we are all guilty of this, if you say you are not.. you are lying Image IPB

You need to run around more with your characters because banter points are now static and don't depend on character combinations like in DA:O. Oghren and Anders are hilarious when paired up. Waste of money? Don't know. It's cheaper and longer than most full new games AND it's replayable quite a bit. Sure, it falls short compared to the original, but it's most definitely not a waste of money.

If you actually believe Bioware actually reads every single individual thread then you are just being naive. Let's suppose there is a perfect world where they do, well, do you honestly think they'll read another thread on a subject that has been spammed to death already? More likely, they are going to read the thread that has a lot of people chiming in. Making a new thread defeats that purpose.

I do it because someone is WRONG on the internet.

If you are going to do a serious rating / review of the game, at least tell everyone what are you rating this game against? Comparison is needed here. If you are comparing this game to Origins, no, it isn't as good, but this isn't a full game either. If you are comparing it to other expansions, hell, even other full games, this either matches or beat them.

Yeah, I feel like this game has its shortcomings, but you people exaggerate the feeling to such extend that it is as if this game is the bane of all humanity.

I agree that this expansion is lacking. It feels like more of an outline for a story than a properly flushed out epic adventure. The graphics are great, the different dungeons look amazing, and I enjoyed the in party bantering, but the plot is pathetic in its execution. What's up with the merchants in town selling all the epic gear you worked your butt off for in the original campaign?! NWN2 did the high level campaign much better. For the money get Mass Effect 2 instead.

I wouldn't compare DA:A favorably to any big name "full games."  Which ones do you put it above?  I'm dying to hear this.

I'm positive they will appreciate it more, especially since they aren't paying a ridiculous sum of money for it.

Hah. Awakenings also costs more than the original Dragon Age Origins. It was going for $35 on steam and retail stores like Walmart and Best Buy a week after release.

i disagree on the part where we HAVE TO compare it to another game.  if i dont like the features of a specific game, the game does not run well (i.e. buggy), and i do not feel the game was that great.. why do i have to bring other games into the equation?

if i dont like a game, i try to give examples as to why, but i use specific examples from the game i am rating.. because.. thats right.. i dont like the features of that specific game.

that being said, i MAY use comparisons where warranted.. if, for example i am comparing it to other games or expansions in the genre, then of course i will bring those up..

also, i might bring up other games if i am talking about value so that way the reader has some context as to why i think the game may or may not have value.

Hate to tell you honey, but ME2 is 100% based on user feedback which is WHY it was so different from ME 1. Feedback which came 100% from these forums. This company does read its forums and does there homework. Clearly you havent been a bioware customer for long

My rants were posted in the original post if you bothered to read it instead of just posting a pissy comment.

No real story, horrible characters and repeat of the first story with missing elements

While Awakening wasn't a complete waste of money, it was certainly overpriced for the limited content. I enjoyed the story, but am very disappointed in the lack of depth and content. Losing the CE items was a kick in the nuts too.

This Xpac seems to have followed Bioware's DLC formula too closely, in that they are extremely short and only of value to diehard fans. Look at the DLC for Borderlands, it's way more expansive and actually adds value to the game.

Should there be another xpac for DA, I certainly will not be a day 1 purchaser. No more full game price for 25% of the content for me.
