Ok, when I first started the game I couldn't see any of the DLC in the list so I came here and found that I need to manually start this service. I did that and after this I could download and install the DLCs. Then I restarted the game a few times and eventually the DLCs became unauthorized. I checked the service and it was stopped. I started it again and the unauthorized issue was fixed. The problem is that the service keeps stopping time to time and I always have to manually start it. At least the game warns me if I want to load a savegame when the service is stopped so I can quit and start it. But this is pretty ridiculous. I noticed that many people here have this unauthorized problem, so I'm not the only one. By the way it seems that the game stops the service when it starts but for what reason I don't know. It should start the service instead of stopping it. I'm on Win7 x64 and have the 1.01a patch.

I have the same problem - I'm hoping Bioware is working hard on fixing it ( along with all the other issues ) and until then I'm playing the game without logging in as it there allows me to use some of all the items I paid for ( and more importantly allows me to load my save game and actually play the game )
Hopefully it'll soon be solved... ( although with so many errors in a release I'm starting to have my doubts about them knowing what they are doing )
Atleast the game is great, just a shame the same thing can't be said about the system regarding DLC and accounts

Good to hear that the game is great Mr-Freki. I have the same troubles and I'm getting seriously displeased with Bioware/EA right now. All this fuss to add a few things and it all just feels so meaninglessly difficult.

Try to start daorigins.exe with admin rights, solved that issue for me.
Seems it needs those rights to start the service itself.

I hope this helps,
1.Open My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Settings\\AddIns.xml with notepad.
2. Search for all of the entries that say RequiresAuthorization="1"> and replace them with RequiresAuthorization="0">
3. Save the .xml and run the game.

Thanks for the answers.
I think I figured out how the service stops. When you manually start it, it will run for an unlimited time, but once the game used the service for communication (and possibly you quit the game) the service will stop itself after a period of time.
Since the game is running under your profile rights it cannot start the service because UAC doesn't allow it. So thats why running the game with admin rights help. Disabling UAC should also help.
I really think they shouldn't make this content updater program a service. I don't think it's doing anything which requires admin rights anyway (hopefully).
Is this really enough to hack this "GREAT" copy protection? 1 byte per mod?

It's the service that requires admin rights, technically. could set the service to log on as an account that has admin rights.
Tap Windows Key, type services.msc
Look for Dragon Age- Content Updater
Change from "Local System Account" to "This Account"
Type in a user id and password that has admin rights
Click OK.
Should do the trick

Someone posted this in my thread :

It's a little batch file that forces the service to start and stop. Make sure to edit it with the right paths for your game.
Not the best solution but it's either that, wait to fix this or always manually start the service.

I'm running the game in admin mode since I last wrote and things are still not good. While the content updater works as it should the DLCs keep resetting.
For example the Grimoire of frozen wastes reappeared in my inventory 7-8 times so far.
The guy who starts the Warden's keep quest reappeared in the camp after I agreed to do the quest. Agreed again then there was another reset and now he's not there and the place disappeared from the map. So I'm stuck on this quest which I actually paid for.
I've bought the Last reason wand for Wynn and now she don't have it so she started fighting with bare hands. I was pretty surprised when I noticed I can say.
I know that all these problems happen because of authorization problems. The most annoying thing is that this reset won't happen immediately I can play like there is nothing wrong, make saves. But when reloading this save after restarting the game bamm... reset. So if you don't have a save from when the authorization worked you have to live with the reseted environment.
I've already tried setting the RequiresAuthorization to 0 as it was suggested above, but it did not help. Maybe should I just log out from my account and play like a pirate?
So I decided to try to install the DLCs manually. If that won't work either I will take a break from this game until there is a proper fix. I already know that I won't be paying for the next DLCs. It would just give me headache. Sad...
