I liked Velanna's tree convo until she got all ****y about it suddenly towards the end. We were having a nice female bonding moment. Why do none of the females in Awakening want to be my friends?

I know! I was just trying to be nice when I told her she'd have made a good keeper (this was right after I first got her so I didn't know much about her yet) and then she bit my head off about how her keeper said she'd have gotten everyone killed and how dare I presume to know more than she did. How was I supposed to know any of that? At that point - as her side quest even lets you note - it looked like she wouldn't be keeper because darkspawn killed her clan.

At least there's always Sigrun, even if she needs you to take an active role in preventing her suicide.

I didn't even choose that option. I don't remember which one I chose. But she still got nasty with me anyway. My poor female characters are all alone with only guys who act like perverted teenagers as friends. :crying:

I actually liked Morrigan and Leliana in Origins. And I like Sigrun too, but you don't really get much of an opportunity to bond with her as a friend in my experience. I was kind of hoping for at least some feelings of having friendships with the other female characters.

In that aspect, they portrayed Leliana and Morrigan pretty well. I could see the three of them running around Denerim shopping for fun. Depending on which character I was playing anyway.

But then, I also wish that they put more tension in between Nathaniel and a HN PC. As well as some recognition, considering you obviously knew the Howe family really well. You should've at least had a "Heeey. You look kinda familiar..." moment.

Agreed on Howe. You do get to gloat a little when Delilah talks about how what Rendon did was irredeemable.

They're all stupid and mean and dumb, that's why! They should be begging you to be their friend, not the other way around.Posted Image

...Yes, I am very good at being a suck up. Posted Image

Evidently. What do you want exactly? I'll have to endeavor to do the opposite.

And I know your tricksy ways. You'll tell me the opposite of what you want from me, so that I end up doing what you want. But I know how to play those games. ;)

And, as you've said, he would need to come to the conclusion that his behavior is doing more harm than good. Perhaps his new family would help him see that? It would be a long process of him coming to terms with his feelings for Branka, her "betrayal", her insanity, and her eventual death. He would also need to accept that the alcohol and the humor only exacerbates his evasive behavior.

Exactly. Realistically, it would be a very long process. Probably spanning years. It'd be difficult enough for one person to handle a single one of those issues. But all of them would take forever. And of course, it's never easy. You have self doubt, self hatred, and all those lovely depressing things thrown in there along with it.

Not to mention, his wife left him for another woman. Who he could have actually been related to.(They never did say how Hespith came to be in House Branka. But if Hespith was Branka's second, I'm assuming she was some sort of warrior at sometime. Meaning Hespith most likely was related to Oghren, and part of House Kondrat before the entire house joined Branka's new house.) If that doesn't cause feelings of inadequecy, I don't know what does.

...And he will probably still wonder "Did I do enough? Maybe I could have convinced someone to search for her if I had done a little more..." The poor man simply had his entire world turned upside down, and no one cared enough to cushion the fall. If you really examine it, it's a miracle that he has't commited suicide, or gone postal.

Indeed. And honestly, the reason why he hasn't gone postal is probably because of the alcohol. When you're drunk or high enough, you apparently just don't care. About anything really.(I'm assuming here from what I know of people who have done these sorts of things. I don't have any personal experience with that stuff.)

I actually thought it was cute that Oghren would write his child letters and have the PC proof read them in the epilogue I got. But my characters would be more likely to make him go visit in person than write letters.

Yeah, you click the cask, but it only triggers if you had the conversation at the flying boat after the darkspawn sends you into the Fade in Blackmarsh.

Really? I got the dream on my first playthrough and I didn't take him into the Fade.

Same. In fact, you don't have to take him anywhere and you can still get the dream conversation. I know I have on all three playthroughs and only my first actually kept him in the party. (ps3 version btw)

I'm now hoping that they bring Oghren back in a less bug-ridden game. Posted Image

Usually people don't pucker up at people they don't want to kiss. Unless you're trying to confuse me. Tricksy tricksy males.

And now, you've been converted to a slightly less Oggy hating Godak. My job here is complete. :P

Now if only I could use such tactics to convince Gaider to write us a Nathaniel romance..

I was just angry at what I saw as a bastardization of his character. It was just so..."Really?!" They need to clean up the bugs! Hire an exterminator! Posted Image

I shouldn't give him plot items, talk to him on a regular basis, and braid his hair, AND STILL miss out on important character development points.

Nathaniel is definitely tied with Velanna for "Favorite New Companion".

He has too many penises for my tastes, though.

Now that would be interesting. I'd consider making a male character for that.

It's still in second or third place though if I ever get the opportunity to bribe/convince Gaider. It might tie with an Anders romance for second. Maybe.

You have a male? Why Godak, I never knew you went that way~ ;)

You were braiding Oghren's hair? ..Ew. The only way you'd get approval faster would be if you actually offered him your rump roast without him falling over unconscious.

Nathaniel is my absolute favorite Awakening char. The voice. <3 And the gentlemanly/noble actions and comments. ~swoons~

If Oghren come back... I wont!!!!

And what the **** does this have to do with Velanna?

Personally, the only thing I *hate* about Velanna is that her personal quest is completely bugged out.. also, it is very difficult to get Oghren's approval up due to his gifts bug.

Bug, bug, bug, bug, bug...

From what I recall, he seems to be quite enamored with Velanna.

I kind of liked her really. She was a bit of a shrew, but at the same time you got enough of explanations why. Even if you detest her doesn't mean she's a bad character. A bad character are those you forget about.

OR those that make you completely lose interest in the game/movie, or breaks immersion.

Most famous: Jar-Jar Binks.

You will remember him till the day you die.

Velanna was almost a complete clone of Viconia from BG2. Same story, same motivations and even the same voice.

I despise Velanna. She's ugly with her odd flat face and weird proportions (Wide forehead, narrow chin/jawline). Devs made some beautiful elves WTF happened to those guys, she's a train wreck. She has a wretched attitude (even when you show her that she's been played she still just **** **** ****es about humans) and her fishwife voice...UGH I hate it even more than Isolde's! And I REALLY hate Isolde's voice. And her WHIIIIIINING in it makes me wanna shove her face into the granite wall.

Lots of people have had ****ty lives/backgrounds but you don't see every Dalish acting this way.  Even Zathrian finally admits he's lived with his hate too long and goes gracefully (if you choose that option of dealing with the Werewolves).  And considering what he went through he has ten times the reason to **** than this silly woman does.

**OFF TOPIC**

For those who want to see Ohgren as a deeper character, start a new game and take him to the Fade and see his dream. Then have him talk to the Spirit Guardian at Andraste's Ashes. At that stage you will see how much of a broken man he is. Finally play him through to Awakenings, get his approval high and tell him he's a bad father and he can still be part of the childs life. Take him to the Anvil in Kal'Horil and listen to him. Finally take him to BlackMarsh and give him the toy horse after you have heard his pony story.

**ON TOPIC**

I have to admit, I really did hate Velanna at the beginning, but after getting her approval up and giving her the Blank Journal to record stories for the Dalish, talking to her at the Statue in the Vigil Courtyard and the Tree in Amaranthine, I have finally warmed up to her. She is a grief stricken Keeper who has been exiled by her own and now her only link back to family (her sister) has been robbed by the DarkSpawn.

If anybody watches Naruto, the underlying permise for that entire ongoing storyline is that fact of how people deal with loniless and how they only want to be accepted and have a place in the world. Thats very similar to what Velanna is going through. I still make her squirm when I talk to Mervis the merchant though, even if I loose 4 points of approval. The look for humiliation on her face makes me think she maybe be redeemed.

If you had read my post you would see my gripes with her has to do with her wretched attitude. I was just pointing out in my post that I don't think shes all that gorgeous (IE I wasn't fooled by a pretty face).  Its her attitude I find grating.  and that horrid voice
