Im actually also curious if this is an issue of windows7.

Vista users have those crashes as well.

Honestly, there is no communication policy whatsoever that could excuse the lack of help bioware is giving us.

My game crashes when I'm loading Brecilian Forest. Have done everything to my graphical settings (although it crashes in the loading screen so can't see how that matters), turned off all the DLC, restarted my computer, all my drivers are new. My computer is also new, got it on Monday.

???

I still crash constantly.

I still haven't been past the Siege of Ostagar. No joke.

Between occasional extreme stuttering, memory leak, and crashes DAO was released completely unplayable (for me).

It blows too, because I really want to play it. Now I'm stuck with nothing to do but boring ol' WoW all day.

All I want is BioWare to say "We are aware of this and are working on a patch you can expect next week."

Here you go, some quotes from BioWare saying they are aware of player's issues and they are working on them.

i keep getting constant crashes to a point where i have had to start reload the same scene over and over. i had enough so gonna wait untill some official fix comes to play the game any farther. i also got the issues with the previous patch. i think im just gonna install the game and try reinstalling again without that first patch.

Greetings to you siraether and thanks for that link. That made it a little less painful. But still... 6 days since patch and still counting.

Btw, played some five hours after last mentioned setting change.

It seems I managed to solve my crashing issue. I had a factory OC:d 4870, OC is done with a switch. I turned it back to normal mode and no more crashes. I hadn't had any problems with the card before. Didn't need to change the core affinity anymore. I have few tweaks in place from before, like the large address aware and XP combatability mode. I also upgraded my physx drivers. Don't know if any of those help, will have to test it later if I can turn them back to normal. Also I'm using Windows 7 64bit and Catalyst 9.10.

Hey there,

I solved my crashing problems, and thought I post here, it might help at least some of you (since there seem to be quite a few issues and not every solution works for everyone).

I had crashes every 5 minutes, the evil ones with red stripes and the computer shutting down and the fan gone beserk. After reading trough this thread I first set the game to the second CPU Core ( I have a Intel E8400 Dual with each 3,0 GHz and 4 Gig Ram, Win XP SP3 and an ATI RADEON 3800). Though that alone didn't help at all, still crashed after a few minutes.

I then disabled my virus shield (Avira antivir personal) and voila, I could play for at least one hour.  After that I ADDITIONALLY set the game to the second CPU core (not the first one !) and also raised it's process priority by one the the option "higher than normal".

These 3 steps (No Avira, one core, higher process priority)  together seem to do the trick, I have now played for more than 3 hours and no crash sofar. Even better, though there is one CPU core disabled I do not notice any performance drops, I can still play in highest settings with 1280x1024.

Try it, maybe it will help at least some of you people until the patch comes. :)

Cheers

The crashes arent limited to vista/win7 and dual/quad core machines as I am running a single core amd64 processor and winxp-64 and still getting them.

When I first started playing the game they happened around every 3+ hrs so didnt pay them any heed, now the crash time is totally random but occuring at least once per hour (could be 2mins in, could be 50mins in).

Tried most of the suggested fixes in this thread and another one in the EA help site. No dice.

On the other site people suffering the same problem reported a range of processor types and video card makes/models, the only constant was that all operating systems were 64bit.

Heres hopeing for a fix for this game soon.

I dont want to play the ezymode 360 version.

AMD 64s (except the Sempron) are all dual core if I remember correctly, try setting processor affinity through task manager... likewise, the minimum requirements for this game include a dual core processor... the fact that it does run on some single cores just means that those players are fortunate

The Sempron specs are so low that it really shouldn't be able to run this game... the L1 and L2 caches are smaller than the one I had on my Pentium 3 600Mhz... God help you if you "actually" have a Sempron

I don't think it has anything to do with overheating.

I started a new game and ran though the origin and into the trial to be
a warden. I ran through the whole trial, came back to town, saved, and
left the game. Them immediately loaded the same game. 5 seconds later,
instant crash!

The problem has to be in the save game files, or
in the way the game is loading them. Or the saves are effecting the
game in some way.

I can't see any other reason.

try setting your processor affinity to run only on cores 2 and 3... see if it still crashes

Nah it was one of the earlier single core 64 processors -  its an Athlon64-4000+ (2.4ghz) processor, which although a couple years old is more than enuff to run this game (as per specs on box), along with other recent games I have been playing such as Modern warfare 2.
Other specs are 4gigs ram and a cheapo 9600GT (512meg) Nvidia card.

I can run dragonage at 1680x1050 on medium settings (high textures) with a decent framerate, but have tried dropping down the settings to see if that was the problem. Still crashed

you're talking about a Sempron then Hade... if it's actually a single core... according to AMD's website all the Athlon 64s have dual core architecture.... http://www.amd.com/u...l-features.aspx
