you might need to check if you're running as administrator...

you're talking about a Sempron then Hade... if it's actually a single core... according to AMD's website all the Athlon 64s have dual core architecture.... http://www.amd.com/u...l-features.aspx

I think only the X2s and Athlon II's had dual cores, the athlons that came before them (939 series) only had a single core. The diagram on their site on that link is a bit misleading as its for an X2 processor.
If you look at the link on the left of that page you will see the standard Athlon at the box "just" above the Semprons :)

http://www.amd.com/u...or-desktop.aspx

Or a review of it below from wayyy back in 2005 (think I got mine in 2006).

http://www.cdrinfo.c...ArticleId=14488

Therefore I have no option to disable one core under settings, so it looks like it can affect single cores as well (would be interesting to see if anyone rocking an old Pentium4 is having the same problems)

Do you have UAC Turned on?

If you do then when you are in task manager on the processes tab select 'Show processes from all users' Accept the UAC prompt.

This will run Task Manager with your administrator privileges. You should now be able to set affinity.

I've actually got a P4 3.2 OC'd to 4.9 Ghz, no issues except that both systemresourcelabs and the yougamer game-o-meter told me I couldn't run the game

if that's what you've got it does have the hypertransport which works like hyperthreading... effectively a 2nd "virtual" core
I guess you just can't turn it off

Yeah Im still surprised it runs newer games as well as it does considering its age.
I guess technology has slowed down its advance a bit in recent years, or a decent amount of ram and a video card can prop it up.

This issue actually reminds me of a similar problem that happened with Warhammer online not long after release. Random crashes.
I think they found out it was a memory leak in the end.
Heres hopeing the layoffs at EA havent affected Bioware and any of their programmers from the Dragonage team so that they can solve this mystery (and also cos they make darn good games)

you mentioned that the thread you saw (it was on the daforums.bioware.com?) suggested that the problem was related to 64bit OSs? Now, that interests me also because the issues I've seen have been cross platform (everything from x86 XP to Win 7 64)... so maybe we have two problems with similar symptoms

Set to CPU 1. I assume 0 is where everything else runs

that's right Jam... want to try one more thing?

Download the EADM:

http://eastore.ea.com/eadm

uninstall your game (leave the saves but remove the settings) and use the DVD key from your box with the EADM

Ok im having a very frustrating game bug here, i have played the game for about 20 or so hours i come to do the Circle Mages Tower area and without spoiling it their is a certain point in the mission where changes happen, after this point i manage to get a few hours worth of play before the game crashes and just shows a corrupt mosaic of colours across my screen with a corrupt white-ish box around where my mouse cursor was and then the computer locks up this is all accompanied by some random sound corruption.

I managed to complete the Circle Mages Tower with many quick saves and computer resets i was hoping that the issue was just with that area but i was wrong i then played for another few hours with out a crash but upon doing the Derilict Warehouse mission in Denerim the crashes started again i completed that area again with many saves only to be greeted by just random crashes whilst going about my business in denerim i.e looking at the codex or the map or trying to lvl a character.

I have tried running the game in lower graphics, windowed mode, checked the heat issues, tried the 1.01 patch though many say that is bugged, i have not had their problems but i have tried rolling back from the latest Nvidia drivers to the previous versions ...nothing seems to work, i am hoping that someone out their might have had this same issue or may have advice that can help me in my efforts i have included below some basic system specs.

Hi I've been having similar problems as many have in this thread, game crashing randomly after 10 - 20 minutes with odd coloureds boxes randomly appearing./As suggested i've tried using only one core and this did fix the problem however I'm now having random moments every odd 10 minutes where the screen goes checkerbox of black squares and it requires an alt-tab in and out to fix it. Any suggestions?

Hello,

I'm having the same problems: randomly crashes to desktop.

I'm using public beta of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and my specs are:

- Intel Core i7-920

- 6GB RAM DDR3-1600

- Asus GTX295

- Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatality Pro

I have updated VGA and soundcard drivers, set the affinity to proccessor 0, set the priority to highest option: real-time and disabled the online options from the game, but nothing worked for me, the game still crashing.

Any idea?

kmatxo - I managed to get my game working and after looking at some other help thread in various places it seems that you need to set the affinity to core 1 not core 0.

I also disabled PhysX in the Nvidia control panel and have just enjoyed 3 hours of uninterrupted game play!

Thanks for the info!
