I just got myself a new monitor. It's running at 1980 widescreen, and the FOV is really really in-your-face. So much so that I literally can not play the game, my eyes strain with it.

I don't ever remember even thinking about the FOV on my old 1600x1200 monitor, so is this a widescreen issue?
It's as if the game is not compensating for widescreen. The picture is not stretched of course, but with a widescreen monitor we need a different field of view.

Is there a way to change it other than the FOV changer mod? I dont want to scew my text or custcenes.
So, its a fix, or I just wont play ME2.

The FOV is similar to ME1. Normally it would be called "V-". However, according to the Widescreen Gaming Forum, Bioware designed the game for 16:9. For 4:3 monitors the game exposes more viewing space above and below.

Well if it is indeed designed for 16:9, then I guess my eyes arnt like biowares. I'm at 1980x1080 wihich is pretty much 16:9, and it's hell. At 1600x1200 on my old monitor I never noticed a problem.

Ya the fov can be pretty much in your face some times. It is different than the ME1 FOV, I think.

Take a screenshot at 1920x1080 then at 1024x768. The amount of horizontal screen content should be identical.

Exactly, and thats the problem. FOV is horizontal field of view, no? On a widescreen monitor i should have more peripheral vision than on a 4:3.
At least I think that is what fov is. In any case, ME2 hurts my eyes and i'de like to change it ^^

The Coalesced.ini file under \\Program Files\\Mass Effect 2\\BioGame\\Config\\PC\\Cooked\\ has the following line:
FOVAngle=90.000000
Use the Coalesced editor to change the value to 120.00000.

Not guaranteed to be bug-free. You may lose the close-up face shots in conversations, for example.

Thank you very much :)

I'll give it a go and see how it works.
