ME2 is the dark second act, as many have said it, it's the empire strikes back of video games. ME2 was darker and more personal then the first.

Remember Lilihierax, the turian right before the guard at the Garage on Port Hanshan? Or Opold the Hanar, or Gianna, or Anoleis, or Captain Ventralis, and the Russian scientist who gets killed by the Rachni. It's just, ME1 was really old school sci fi, and there were all these really diverse characters. I wasn't so attached to minor characters in ME2

Are you for real bro?

Perhaps I'm alone in the appreciation of the VA of those characters then.  :P

Ah.

I hope someday people will compare future media to Mass Effect, saying "This is the Mass Effect 1/2/3 of the series!".

lol dark. ME2 has got to be the funniest dark second act I have ever seen or played.
From all the air quotes to various comic side charcters I was in stitches from laughter on my first play through.

Li was cool, and seeing Gianna in ME2 again rocked. I liked Noveria. But then, I'm fairly easy to please, gamer-wise. I liked Feros, too. I just like Virmire/Ilos/Citadel -more-.

Thats one of the things I loved about ME2, even the minor VA was well done. Remember DAO guys where alot of the minor characters and some major ones had terrable VA. Martin Sheen and Yvonne stole the show for me tho

No there's not only "so much you can do" you can do absolutely anything, including but not limited to hiring writers that are actually really great and creative.

Really? I mean outside of Noveria (and even then only Anoleis, Gianna and Lorik were fun to watch), and of course the Citadel with Conrad, Morlun and Refund Guy I can't think of any other cool minor characters.

In 2 I loved the heck out of people like Char and his girlfriend, Urz, a lot of the random Krogan littering the homeworld, the Turian hitting on the Quarian, the Asari Matriarch Bartender, etc.

I think ME2 really handled that aspect well and had more fun with them.

Well, the voice actor for Li the Turian is the same as Delan the mechanic in ME2.

Completely different characters...

The industry will get there eventually, its already taken great strides from the days of Doom. Look at the early film industry, downright primitive.

what it is you are just another one of the ME 1 fanboys that will always find any and everything to hate on ME 2. ME 2 is the better game. if you can not deal with ME 2 then just play ME 1 and be happy but this is starting to get really sad listening to ME 1 fanboys once again find ways to cry about ME 2 not being a simple copy of ME 1

I mean the tone. Humans are getting abducted by a race of bugs that no one knows anything about. No one has ever been to there base and back. We don't know what they are doing with the humans. Shepard gets killed at the start which makes this very personal and this introduces us to Cerberus (the talks with TIm where the best in any game I have ever played) you have to side with these guys even if you don't approve of there methods because unlike the council and the Alliance, Cerberus wants to take down the Reapers, so does Shepard. The funny parts where not proper parts, there was nothing funny durining the death of Shepard, Horozine, the Collector ship, the dead Reaper and the Base. The tone was darker, but was also funny as hell.

A lot of people say that about many of the blockbuster movies that are released, though.

Are you saying that the gaming industry is devoid of good writers or that BioWare doesn't hire any? Either way, that doesn't bode well for the current trend of blockbuster games.

There's nothing wrong with levity and I think storytellers that know when to use it are better than one's that just hit you with DARKDARKDARKDARK over and over again.

One of the best things about Mass Effect, IMO is the fact that I as a player have the option of killing any character I don't like.

Few funnier moments in the first game than having Gianna and whoever that Salarian dude was shoot eachother.

The Halo games need some work for how the pump up the story. They tried something with Halo 2 then must have decided it wasn't worth it.

GTA 4 was outstanding, so you have at least one mega-blockbuster with good storytelling.

Man, is that true or what. I remember playing it and being in utter shock at the difference in quality.

The Presidium Groundskeeper is just as awesome as Lilihierax though!

There are quite a few funny and/or likeable NPCs in Mass Effect 2 - they mostly happen to be Krogan or Turian.

True, I'll give you that.

My favorites are the two Krogan in the Citadel who, after finding out that there are in fact no fish on the presidium, one says to the other, something like "Why don't you go punch a turian, that always makes you feel better"

I think he says something like,

"They think all Krogans are violent."

"Stupid Turians. We should kill them all!"
