The bugs, the length and the price could be considered legit concerns.

But everyone should give the new companions a chance. I like 'em. Hell, I like Anders, Sigrun and Justice more then any of the original cast.

Well I wouldn't go that far but Nathaniel comes pretty close to my feelings for the Original cast. And I like the others you listed too I just felt with the dialogue system being what it was, I didn't get a chance to get to know them as well.

As has been said again, do NOT use the ratio of positive to negative awakenings posts on the forums as your guide to purchase Awakening. In any game forum after release the ratio will ALWAYS be looking very bad.

It did for Origins and Mass Effect 2, both highly acclaimed games. Indeed, now that the dust has settled it becomes clear that is the case on their forums. But for several weeks after release it was as if Ragnarok had come and the end was near (if there was a way to make money off of claims EA had ruined Bioware, we'd have fixed the economy). :)

That's why you should look at reviews, or at least seek out the positive posts and not let the quantity of negative posts sway you. They are not representative of the fan base and certainly do skew the statistics.

In short, after a game release you will always see more dissatisfied people on the forums, because they feel wronged and get vocal about it. It's entirely normal, and indeed they should still get to voice their opinion (odds are many of their negative points are correct, though they accord them more importance than most), but they do not constitute a properly weighted sample.

Thank you.

I agree, actually.

Though Oghren was my favorite from the Origins cast, so I'm really glad he was brought over as well. I liked Sigrun more than I thought I would, but I was really excited about having a member from the Legion of the Dead on my team. Anders really didn't remind me much of Alistair, honestly. I loved what Justice was and what he represented. Though his face really kind of scared me... lol

game was rushed, some conversations hinted at a quest and there wasnt one, felt like it was cut out. Gameplay was not worth the cost, 40 dollars is to close to a new game price, for this... 15 to 20 maybe. this has all the marks of something whipped out to make money at the cost of quality, relying on the games orignal fan base to make sales.  You do that to your fans to much and you will pay for it.

Based on this I will not be buying any more expantions for this, mabye when they have a fire sale on steam ill pick it up, but thats it.

No actually the game was well worth $40,[inappropriate comments removed]

I enjoyed the game, but it was nowhere near the standards set by Origins

I think the Romances and the old chat system played major roles in Origins also, it makes it way more realistic hence why its an RPG, unfortunately taking those 2 parts and more out of Awakening it is a bit of a disappointment.. I dont think the game is long enough and hopefully Bioware will be bringing out more DA soon

This feels like a chick thread i love romances, but there are not vital you'll be betraying yourself and kicking your self in the butt if you dont get this expansion it explains this concerning change in darkspawn behavior, and the orlesian orgins story sheds light on whats to come on the next game a year from now witch i cant wait for. Does awakening have flaws?

Duh what game does it MW2 has flaws Wow has flaws what ever game you bring up there are always flaws. Sure the load times are a bit hefty and autosave majorly lags you up while its saving in combat. But theses are nothing new from what we know on origins i dont see why romance matters that much. They even address most of your relationships at the end of the game learn to read and you'll find that out. Personally i find the charaters just as interesting as origins, Anders is funny as hell especially pair up with oghren and amazingly unlike the last game i found morrgins equal Velanna and welcomed companion. There of the same make but she hows compassion for her sister witch enriches the story a bit.

As for lelianna i did miss her in awakening majorly at first i wanted her and my hero to venture around within the first hour i started not to care as much although dont get me wrong i want her back without question on DAO: 2. But awakening is a great expansion pack i actually look forward to playing as my orlesian charater more then my hero of ferelden charater. Orlay seems like a more interesting land the ferelden. Plus it doesnt smell like wet dog. A joke for those who played lilianas side quest. But trust me get this expansion its worth the 40bucks everything costs money put it to good use for once.

As for all you for are all to thick headed to see this expansion will be kicking them selves later for it mark my words especially when there are evil talking darkspawn and you dont know the plot behind it im not sure but i think you'll have one "Faction" of darkspawn helping you agianst the next blight where thats happening beat the orlesian storyline for DAA and you'll find out the meaning to the things i just said. Who ever doesn't get this i put me 2cents in here so do with it what you will with the things i just stated.

On the whole the expansion was a great game, but I must admit it did feel rushed proberly due to EA's bad influence.

I have been a very harsh critic of Awakenings. My first play through took less than 9 hours and left me quite disappointed. It took some time but I finally convinced myself to play through again.

My second play through I decided I would painstakingly complete every quest using my knowledge of the games events from the first play through so as to maximize the benefit and not to enter the final stage before I had experienced all the quests.

I managed to finished every quest except 1.

I changed my opinion of the expansion some after the second time through. The second play through took me just over 18 hours of play time in the hard setting. My first impressions of this expansion was that it was at best a $ 15.00 DLC. Well I was wrong.

I still think the 40 dollar price tag was a little high maybe $29.99 would be a better value for the amount of content.

The new system for cut scenes with companions is tedious. I enjoy the cut scenes personally and look forward to having earned one. So to have to keep my eyes peeled for a Rock or a Statue that highlights or a flying boat etc. is a bit silly. I know this is what added to my displeasure in my first play through as I didn't take the time to hold tab and look and around all the time. A system that lets you know a conversation is available wold be a welcome addition.

While some of the quests were kind tossed in it seemed, many of the main quests were enjoyable as were the few areas for adventures. The fights even in Hard mode were actually easy. Especially with the uber gear from doing all of the quests.

Rune crafting is a neat idea but the logic of having to make so many lesser runes to get a more powerful rune is just a time sink. Better to make the tracings harder to get from fighting boss mobs than to require me to make 50 runes to get one.

All in all My extremely negative first impression of Awakenings has been replaced with a moderately favorable one.

So with that said I take back every other bad thing I said about it.

Its probably more that oghren is there than that Alistair is not.  Although I liked him better than his replacement Anders. I think Anders likes to shower with the Soldiers. Thats why he refused the Soap on a rope!

point is i think bioware can be a lot better!

I played based on three different Origin endings (and two different genders!) I expected the plot to focus on rebuilding the Grey Wardens in Ferelden. I expected to be introduced to the Architect as a key protagonist in the sequel. I expected that I would develop friendships with warden recruits, but didn't expect the depth of character development I experienced in Origins. The game met all those expectations.

I didn't expect to like Sigrun, Anders, and especially Nathaniel as much as I did. I hope that Nathaniel Howe figures into the sequel, too. I didn't expect that I would enjoy being able to grow on my own as a character, or that my relationship with Oghren would be so complicated. So there was much to like about Awakening.

The one characteristic that I missed was the sense of realism (for lack of a better word) that makes me play Origins over and over again. So...how did David Gaider contribute to the writing of this expansion?

I hear that Gaider wrote Anders, which would explain why his dialogue is so snappy.

Ohgren was my least favorite character, heck I never even used him and you seem to have no choice but to bring him along. I LOVE Alistair and it seems like a lot of guys here hate him because he is so appealing to females. I won't be buying the expansion and if the Dragon Age Origins II uses the new conversation system and continues to prefer "action" over the rpg elements I won't be buying that either.

I don't think that "Awakening" is a bad game, is just that after the "Origins" experience, it kinda left me a feeling of... emptiness.

As for Alistair, I was surprised and disappointed to find out that there isn't a cameo for him if he isn't king.

Edited to add: Is it worth to be played? I would say yes.

having just purchased and started origins i have to say im suprised by some of the design choices.. since when did the top secret, do not reveal to anyone what the joining involves suddenly become very public information with characters like oghren speaking about it openly.

why is a non warden performing the joining on new recruits? seems very hypocritical for someone who isnt a warden and who hasnt been through the joining saying "join us brothers and sisters"

the choice of oghren i was concerned about but im ok with it, just suprised there is not a peep of a mention at all of the person i did romance .. leliana

DA fans:
You don't need to read these forums to know awakenings is bad.

Go to any major gaming review site such as IGN or gamespot, and see for yourself. All of them like awakenings less than origins - all have negative feedback and the game scored a full point to point and a half lower than origins (9.0/9.5 down to 8.0/8.5 etc)

It's pretty obvious to everyone in the community that awakenings is a disappointment. In the case of awakening, the developers clearly lost touch with what the fans and community wanted and did their own thing and they epic failed.

I knew the game would be bad simply because they were bringing oghren back - bringing oghren back is a clear sign that the developers are out of touch - he is by far the least popular origins companion and hated by many viscerally - more so than any other companion - to bring him back was epic fail.

Bioware: want to know what your fans and customers want?

1. ROMANCE

2. GOOD COMPANIONS (you had good ones in origins, all you had to do to not fail was use one of them in awakening and you didnt)

3. GOOD COMBAT

4. GOOD STORY

thats it. In awakening you failed companions, you failed story and you failed romance. Epic fail.
