Damn 8.5 out of 10 sounds like a wicked score for a expansion.  Seeing as they never score as well as the original.  I still enjoy reading in disbelief about how much people are complaing about this romance thing.  Haha

Not to be mean, but if all you want is a dating sim, those do in fact exist. Alistair is a fictional character, if you liked him you should be able to appreciate the other fictional characters the writers introduce, hell Anders is basically the exact same character archetype.

Shut up!  speaking logically and rationally here is not permiitted.  All must complain about petty things in awakening that don't matter because 39.99 was not given by mommy to purchase the game.  Otherwise no posting allowed.

game was rushed, some conversations hinted at a quest and there wasnt one, felt like it was cut out. Also I bet im not the only one who defended the city with half his team and expected to fight the keep with the other half. I kept waiting for it to cut to the keep but nope. Gameplay was not worth the cost, 40 dollars is to close to a new game price, for this... 15 to 20 maybe. this has all the marks of something whipped out to make money at the cost of quality, relying on the games orignal fan base to make sales.  You do that to your fans to much and you will pay for it.

Based on this I will not be buying any more expantions for this, mabye when they have a fire sale on steam ill pick it up, but thats it.

Heh I'll give you this one,  I decided to defend the city, and then discovered that the Keep was going down in flames.   So I reloaded and got credit for saving both...BY ACCIDENT.  That was my first run through Awakening.

I don't think it is possible, however to save both.  Either way,  your ending is going to criticize your Warden..methinks.    Oh well.   Gotta love the railroad endings. :P

As has been said again, do NOT use the ratio of positive to negative awakenings posts on the forums as your guide to purchase Awakening. In any game forum after release the ratio will ALWAYS be looking very bad.
It did for Origins and Mass Effect 2, both highly acclaimed games. Indeed, now that the dust has settled it becomes clear that is the case on their forums. But for several weeks after release it was as if Ragnarok had come and the end was near (if there was a way to make money off of claims EA had ruined Bioware, we'd have fixed the economy). :)
That's why you should look at reviews, or at least seek out the positive posts and not let the quantity of negative posts sway you. They are not representative of the fan base and certainly do skew the statistics.
In short, after a game release you will always see more dissatisfied people on the forums, because they feel wronged and get vocal about it. It's entirely normal, and indeed they should still get to voice their opinion (odds are many of their negative points are correct, though they accord them more importance than most), but they do not constitute a properly weighted sample.
Thank you.

This...

If you had seen the forums just after November 3rd 2009, you would have thought that DA:O was the Worst...game...ever.

But as it turns out...its definitely not.    There are people who will spend time blowing off steam about issues.   In 2 to 3 months...they will have forgotten all about it and moved on.

Better ..as the above poster states, to read reviews, watch the freebie vids offered on the different sites, such as IGN for example,  read reviews by different game journalists, and come to YOUR OWN CONCLUSIONS.

People will always beech on forums, it seems they beech more than they offer kudos.   But at the same time realize this:   that if they didn't care about the game, they wouldn't bother being here at all..hehe :D

So...how did David Gaider contribute to the writing of this expansion?

I hear that Gaider wrote Anders, which would explain why his dialogue is so snappy.

He also wrote Nathaniel.  For me my faves were Nathaniel and Anders...Cause and effect...Guess I really like D. Gaider's work.Posted Image

I think you all who talk about "if you want a dating sim, go play one" are unfair. It's really condescending. I don't think I'd mind the lack of Alistair and Dog as much if there had been a viable explanation for why they left. At the end of my DA:O story, it said specifically that Alistair went to rebuild the grey wardens with me. And aren't those dogs supposed to stay with their master 'til death? Even a simple note saying "this takes place during the time when Alistair was paying his respects to his dead mentor" would've sufficed.

While the relationsships were not the only things I liked about DA, to me they were what made me buy the expansion, what would've made me stay on the DA train for years. Without them, I might aswell just go play Oblivion or some other roleplaying game without companions.

Just considering... Has anybody suggest to EA that they should do fantasy or medieval related sims. After this it would be huge success, fangirls can have their Alistairs in different colors and places.
Sorry my OT.

The new companions to me seem just kind of "alright"... can't quite feel the same connection as the Origins companions because of the new convo system, lack of romance and shortness of the game. Makes them feel a bit disposeable. I think that is actually just fine if Bioware intended Awakening to be a side-quest sorts before the full-size sequel comes out-- if that sequel will reunite us with our Origins companions and continues on those story-lines.

Only drawback I see of continuing my Origins Warden into a 3rd game is how ridiculously overpowered he is.

I loved Nathaniel, too!  I just didn't know Gaider had written him. XD  I adore snarky characters.

No, it's honest, and rational.  I don't expect someone relying on psychosis fueled fantasies as an emotional crutch, to appreciate honesty and rationality, I'm not the type of person to smile and empower that behavior though.
If all the OP wants in a video game is the ability to have a fantasy "romance" suggesting they look somewhere besides rpg/action games is a perfectly rational suggestion.

I really don't see why people go like " you want romances in the game? lal get a datin simulator", i mean, then if you like action then get an fps. Ofc thats not what i think, but romances was really nicely done in the first game so no wonder if people like them, and im sure that the majority liked them. And if you get attached to your love intrest (amg go out get a life nub) then you prolly want to see him/her again.
But also judging the expansion based just on the lack of romance isn't fair, and as someone said with this dialog system i don't really think romances could work in Awakening.

I almost feel sorry for Bioware. They have not released any expansions for games for years only full-fledged quality products which sets an incredibly high standard.

Then they release one and "WHAM"... they must be going "Ok, next time, no more expansions, we'll stick to sequels" heh.

Yes I completely agree with yall. I really liked DA:O because it was an rpg that had a deep interactive role with your fellow NPC's. In DA:A you can't even get into a conversation with the other peoples! And not to say anything because I know it would be considered a spoiler but the end of the game credits about my precious Vigilence sword... REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean seriously WTF!!!! If you know what I'm talking about then you know, if not then play it again and get the sword.

Yes it lacked the immersion origins had. Romances non existent, conversation limited not open to your whims, Mhairi was hyped for a month prior to release as the new female warrior team mate only to die during the joining, out of all the good old team mates to have come back for awakening we get the drunken dwarf Oghren which I personally hated from DAO. Good story for awakening but after playing through it twice it just feels empty. Final thought this was a $20-$25 expansion that we got price gouged to but at $39.99.

I thought the title of this thread was amusing, though I confess I haven't bothered reading the contents. At first sight the thread title sounded like it was written by early adolescent who hadn't got enough Ken and Barbie in her life; and evidently thought that the ethos of DA is to find someone nice, settle down with them and Live Happily Ever After. Aaah bless.

That may well not be how the thread has panned out, but I make no apologies for my interpretation of it's title... ;O)

Ooooooh, burn. Wait - no.
Wanting to see the continuation of a particular subplot within DA:O's story - whether or not that subplot is a romantic one - does not constitute "a psychosis fueled fantasy". There's no need to flail about attacking people with big words.
How about we go back to discussing Awakening, rather than the supposed mental state of our fellow forum members?

I too am disappointed in the lack of romance, it does seem they didn't listen to their own poll or any of the millions of threads that basicly they said the same thing over the years. Releasing a game with no romance is like releasing a game with no fighting, there has to be a balance or it doesn't work. Hopefully they'll learn from this rather poor experiment and take the fans interests more seriously next time.
