You get a male rogue and a female rogue. You get a male mage and a female mage. You get a male warrior and a.....horrifiyingly hideous dead guy.
Plus, Mhairi was the only normal person. Why did she have to go? Why oh why couldn't it have been Oghren?

If they did that, that would kind of be the opposite formula writers usually go for to generate shock. You know, get you attached to a character than kill them off. Not kill them off then get you attached to them.
