Check my signature for the links to the projects; these are somewhat slapped-together attempts to fix issues seen in patch 1.03 with Stealing (both Awakening and Origins) and the dog's ability to find mundane items (Origins).

While I was at it, I added floaty notification of items/coin stolen (Stealing) and found (dog, only the random junk items, not the fixed stuff he'll find as well), and a .GDA that allows Stealing to be selectable from the "Use Ability" menu in the Tactics interface again (the floaty notification works quite well with a non-player-controlled character using a Stealing tactic).

I've also included the modified source for sys_treasure_h.nss which is the only actual source file changed to enable these fixes.

If anyone notices anything disastrous or horrendous, please let me know! :D

I finally made my way to an NPC with a guaranteed item to steal (Hardy's Belt from the Ostragar Quartermaster) and realized for those steals (and any steal that moved items from the target's inventory to the thief) I was sending notifications to appear above the target's head, not the thief's. This has been fixed in v1.12 of my Stealing Fix.

Even though notification was just a frill I added because I could, it makes stealing a bit more entertaining.

Would you be able to make a version where the Steal cooldown is only 1.5 seconds?

Download the file ABI_NukStealTacticsFixCDR.GDA and place it in your {Documents}\\\\Bioware\\\\Dragon Age\\\\packages\\\\core\\\\override directory (do NOT have ABI_NukStealTacticsFix.GDA there if you've installed my fixes piecemeal instead of as the addins; one or the other, not both!).

Note that notifications are up for 4.2 seconds so if you are a quick thief you might discover the notification stacking limit (especially since "Stealing successful!" will also appear each time).

I decided the 10s cooldown was perfectly fine but suspected that some would want to see that cooldown reduced.  ;)

Oh, the Dog Find Fix is now at v1.11. I added (yellow!) notifications for plot items found by the dog, such as the Piece of Wood or Found Cake. While somewhat redundant since these items are generally described by the dialog with your Mabari, it now makes those finds consistent with the coin and random item finds.

EDIT: Both Stealing Fix and Dog Find Fix are now at v1.15.  Besides making their version numbers consistent, I changed all notifications of coin to use green text.  A purely aesthetic change.

That should be the limit of my fiddling until the next Bioware patch either renders my fixes obsolete or renders them unusable.

My Stealing Fix has been updated to v1.2.

v1.2 fixes notification for items (and coin) stolen from the target's inventory.  This doesn't happen often—most thefts are generated randomly or pulled from a stealing override item list and placed directly into the thief's inventory—but it does happen.  (Let's just code-name this fix "Rogek".  :P)

Also, when coin was purloined from a mark's inventory, the normal lower-left coin notification was not being triggered.  Now it is (in addition to the green floaty notification), for maximal consistency with other coin theft.

Excellent work!

Not only fixes those dumb bugs but improves the basics - for me this is a must-have!

It should be officially added to patch 1.04

Assuming that 1.04 fixes stealing (and dog find), that will put me in a bit of a quandary.  I'm so spoiled by my notifications that they are sorely missed when I've had the occasion to not have them displaying.  If 1.04 is coupled with a simultaneous release of the updated sources for the toolset, then I will be able to release a mod strictly to restore my notifications.  Otherwise, I might have to settle for posting a generic "items received" floaty notifier, but it won't be able to distinguish stolen or dog-found items from other items received, such as from looting chests or quest rewards.  Granted, these things will be obvious in context, but there'd go my " stolen!" or " found!" distinctions.    Plus you'd have to check on the lower-left normal notification for coins, as I don't believe the item received event will trigger on added money.

Oh well, we'll have to see what 1.04 brings.  Maybe Bioware will bring in their own take on generous notification of stolen/found/rewarded items and coin.  Or borrow mine, I don't mind. :P

Haven't tampered with the toolset, but I remember getting that message upon stealing (money) from Rogek in the Dust Town. The "cooldown" for those messages is sometimes too long to my liking at least.

I just tested with my fix and Qwinn's fixpack disabled (I have a savegame right at Rogek).  There's no notification on inventory transfers from mark to thief (which is how the 20g coin haul is moved from Rogek's inventory to the thief).

Now if Qwinn's fixpack were enabled, which fixes stealing without my added notifications, you'd see "Item received" because there's a random item grab in addition to the inventory transfer grab, which without any stealing fix you would only see if you were penniless (or if the random item were determined to be money, in which case you'd see the normal paltry coin notification but nothing for the 20g inventory grab).  With my Stealing fix prior to 1.2,  you'd see the random item notification (or coin notification) and then a cryptic " stolen!", because MoveItem apparently dereferences the item moved, and I was doing my notification after the move (on a no longer valid item reference).

As for my floaty notifications, they all are set at 4.2 seconds.  Not too long, not too short, and 42/10. :P

Oh, ok, good to know - the last time I played was on 1.2, no mods/fixes installed. So far no probs with your fix/1.3.
