I will fully admit, I'm biased. Liara fan and faithful. So my point of view is one way. And it's very clear to me, that relationship never was over, it's still going...it's in trouble, like BioWare wanted, but it's still there. I guess the same can be said of Ashley and Kaiden...still there but in trouble.

Ashely basically tells you she almost killed herself over you. While from what I've read of Kaiden...correct me if I'm wrong. He moved on and dated.

Also, remember, It's been two years for everyone else, but not for Shepard...it all feels like yesterday to Shepard.

Honestly, we look at ME 1 with rose colored glasses, especially with the romances. A lot of their depth we have come up with in our own mind.

Liara loves you from minute one and even if you are a huge ass she still falls all over herself.

Ashley is a bit more "difficult" but she is hardly a Viconia, whose romance you could FAIL in BG II. Also, it seems she was meant to be a m/f and f/f romance, so they cut out part of her nature...

Guys, all of the ME1 romances still want to be with Shepard and still love Shepard. There's turbulence, but that is common fare for any long lasting relationship.

I think EVERYONE wants to be with Shepard.  It's just a common trait in the Galaxy :o

Jennifer Hale still says "Dismissed Chief" in a sexy voice. A hold over from the F/F romance, I'm guessing.

Not to derail but that REALLY grates me.  I hate being edited at work by jackasses who think they know what good writing is (they don't) and I can only imagine how frustrating it can be to write for video games and have a slightly "edgy" idea and have it cut to make it more palatable.  Ugh.......

Was it a default or para/rene glitched save?

Imported Shepard, no glitch. There's no picture and no email, so the game doesn't think she's in a romance with him. It's just Kelly and Joker who talk about him as if they had this big sexual tension will they/won't they thing going on, whereas I actually never talked to him at all in that save. Guess the game didn't predict for Shepard's aggressive friendzoning...

Might be the wrong save; did you move it into folder isolated?

Nope, Xbox. I had my saves sorted all neat; level 50, Liara romance, level ~56, Kaidan romance, level 60, no romance. And I'm positive I used the level 60 save, since I started at level 5.

Ash basically spat in my face and called me a traitor.  She told me flat out that she didn't trust me anymore.  Same with Kaiden.  Even if Garrus is with you, they ignore everything the two of you say on the situation.  I also made it very clear to both Joker and Kelly afterwards that it was definitely over.  To Joker the line went something like... "Just another rieminder of how I lost more than two years."

I would agree to the Liara one... if I hadn't played through as characters that didn't romance her.  She has 100% the same dialogue as she does if you did.  The only difference is that kiss at the beginning that she pulls away from quickly.  In the end, I have a character for every romance except Jacob... though Thane died in the one that romanced him... poor Abigale Shepard, everyone around her dies.

Shrug.  Ash sits with Miranda at the top of my 'most hated characters' list.  First the racist comments, then the religious crap, then the boring poetry.  My Shepards are all diplomatic about it... but I really want to use the "Bored now" option once she starts witht he poetry.

There. Ignorance. They give a character depth and you complain its boring, I bet if they gave a character no depth, you would whine. She's not racist, I would go out of my way to record the lines in Mass Effect 1 where she says "I dont think humanity has some divine mandate. I dont think were better than anyone." Saying religious crap is rude and close minded, so if she was racist, WHICH SHE'S NOT, you're not showing any better of an example.Theres nothing to hate, you're just being stupid.

Shepard sleeping with someone in ME2 shouldn't be considered cheating, because it isn't. The relationship with your love interest in Mass Effect 1 ended when you died.

Even marriage vows state, "when death do us part, " and Shep was far from being married. Two years have also passed since Shepard's death, and your ME1 LI has moved on. No matter who you romance in ME1 you get the cold shoulder when you reunite in ME2 for various reasons. Why is Shep expected to be chaste in ME2 when the ME1 LI gives no indication that they are interested in picking up where you left off?

Also I think it would be more realistic if your ME1 love interest has had a relationship or two since you passed. I find it highly improbable that Liara, Ashley, or Kaiden would go two years waiting for someone who, as far as they knew for most of that time, was dead and wasn't coming back. For the record I wouldn't consider that cheating either.

Ash and Liara admit they still have feelings for you, and they dont want you to die, which shows they care. I doubt Ash dated because of her dedication and being in the Alliance and all, Kaiden said he tried it but didnt like it, and I dont know about Liara.

Liara I could, she's young, impressionable and extremely loyal, Kaidan rather unlikely, he's pretty loyal,  Ash... Ash is a hot mess to put it lightly. Racist, Specieist, religiously autocratic, super defensive and takes rather a lot of unnecessary joy at shooting Wrex over and over. I had little issue with her getting blown up.

You can baw baw cry cry all you want but BioWare knew what they wrought when they wrote her. The same qualities that make her an excellent and formidable soldier, are the same qualities that pretty much restrict her to military life. She's flawed as hell to put it lightly, and she was written that way on purpose.

And yet, when the confrontation comes up between her and Liara, after talking to her and thinking I might be getting through to her, she comes out with the "Bug-eyed alien" line that made me regret leaving Kaiden on Virmire.  As far as her faith, I don't care to hear it.  I don't enjoy it when Thane does it either, but he's such a minor character that I don't really care.  She could believe whatever she wants, I don't care to hear it.  I tell the same thing to religious people IRL.  As far as 'depth' goes, I don't equate poetry to depth.  I equate poetry to boring.  Someone reciting *other people's* poetry, I equate to being too dumb to figure out what to say themselves.

Though thanks for that whole rant there.  You've definitely proven why you like her character.  You sound just like she does.  Abrasive and insulting.  I mention something that goes against praising her(Hell you told me off simply because I stated exactly what she did in ME2, mature), and you attack me.  I explain why I didn't like her character, and you attack worse.  To be honest, just like Ash, you're someone I would never like to speak to again.  But you go have a good day there, champ.

I could sit here for hours, and hours on end, showing you she's not racist/speciest, she says so herself, and she has real emotions. She's defensive for one conversation, but not even so. She becomes a loving, playful character, and you say she's flawed, who isnt? I would rather date a regular GOOD character than any other character in this game. The only flaws you can come up with are ones generated by your ignorance and stupidity.

They may still have feelings for you but that has nothing to do with your relationship status. Neither one gives any hints that they are interested in getting back together. Liara is too consumed with killing the Shadow Broker and Ashley is caught up with her duties, besides not liking the company you are now keeping. There is no relationship with either one in ME2 whether or not Shepard decides to romance someone new, and you can only cheat on someone if you are in a relationship with them.

Also Ashley being dedicated to her Alliance duties shouldn't prevent her from having any relationships, whether casual or otherwise.

See? I cant even defend my point without the usual "Oh, go ahead and think you're a winner" speach, which always gets tossed out in these internet arguements. Look, we could argue this all night, but lets just drop it, because were never gonna get anywhere with this. We have seperate opinions, and lets just leave it at that.

No you can't. I've played the game to hell and back, and I write and design games for both a living and a hobby. EVERY character in Mass Effect is flawed, including Shepard, hero of heroes. Garrus and Wrex have no compunctions about putting bullets in people they have issue with, and neither can follow the rules very well. Liara tends to see people outside her immediate range as variables/curiosities, rather than people. Kaidan has little issue following civilian endangering orders, and definitely has an anger management issue huddled up in there, and we're not even covering the colorful cast of ME2. Ash is by FAR the most "flawed" character in ME1, and she was crafted that way on purpose. And you can't explain her face on the Wrex scene as anything other than what it is.

And yet you all ignore it when Bioware writers came onto the old forums

Never said she was a human racist. She's still predjudiced, good or bad.

What argument?  I said I didn't care for a character, you swore and me and attacked me.  I justify my reasoning by pointing our parts of her character that I dislike, and you get even more hostile.  There's no argument.  There's me stating opinions, and you screaming at me.

What? Shes flawed because she drives herself to overcome the critisism given to her grandfather? And plus, she only shoots Wrex if you're about to get killed by him for being such a terrible negotiator. She even warned you beforehand she would do something if it went bad. Your fault, not hers. And like I said before, I could give you video proof from the game where she states she's not racist, so that arguement is still invalid.
