I started a new game of ME1 for the fun of it and am now pharting around in the Mako.

Maybe it's just me and my PC, but I do not have a problem handling the Mako on any terrain.  I simply read the terrain the vehicle is currently navigating and compensate accordingly.  Eg, when the tires lift and the ground slopes to the right, I tap the "left" key.  Yes, the terrain is unforgiving, but the controls are sensitive enough to allow me to proceed w/o difficulty.  As long as I'm not too drunk, it's not a probelm.  You bet, the first time I got behind the Mako's wheel was a joke, but it's called learning curve.

And while I'm here, what's the grief with probes in ME2?  Could it be any easier?  I only care about the large deposits.  Who wants to mine every little resource on every planet?  Clearly that's not Bioware''s intention.  That'd be like, in Diablo1, hauling every  unenchanted flail, rags, and quilted armor you came across to the surface.

Yeah sure, my first ME2 playthrough, I took 15 min to "probe" each planet, but quickly realized that was not necessary.

Am I alone here, thinking the Mako is OK?  Any thoughts?

When I compare it with the new Hammerhead stuff, I wish I could go back to the Mako, have raunchy, dirty, naughty playtime with it, then marry it and have lots of fat children to bring into ME2.

For all its faults, at least YOU decided where to go on the planets with the Mako.

The mako was great. The maps needed to be more linear but with a lot of freedom than in me2. Kind of like a combo of the hammerhead maps and mako maps.

Lousy controls shouldn't have to be attributed to a learning curve.

I hated the Mako. Driving up mountains in barren, lifeless featureless planets and playing simon says for mining is NOT fun. Neither is planet scanning, but at least planet scanning isn't annoying.

Scanning is boring. Which is just another flavour of annoying anyway.

I'll take boring (scanning) over boring and annoying (Mako).

I never had a problem with the Mako itself. The implementation was flawed, but the core mechanic wasn't that bad IMO. They just needed to improve controls, and make the driving less monotomous. Perhaps a hybrid Mako/planet scanning system would work in ME3

Yeah it was hell on the Xbox. When I played the PC version though, it was alot more bearable.

I never had the problems some of the people here are claiming with the mako.

Pfft stuck on a mountain? I can read a map. Problem solved.

I played me1 on the xbox and didn't have any trouble with the mako. Also, bug hunting on nepmos was fun.

Never had a problem with it. In fact, I actually liked the Mako, and I was surprised that so many others didn't. The empty planets were sometimes linear, but overall I had fun. I really missed it a lot when I started playing ME2.

like so many things, it's something that needed TWEAKED, which they ultimately just ripped out.

and yeah...firewalker definitely made me yearn for the days of the MAKO. It shot at what I was aiming at, was capable of exploration, had a radar...and the Hovertank somehow makes mineral deposits look like odd, yellow circles that you have to do a strange balancing act on.

I loved the Mako missions. Firewalker was a huge disapointment . I was hoping for planets of the same scale of ME1. Naive of me perhaps.

It controlled similiarly to vehicles in Halo(I play on Xbox),in all seriousness I loved the Mako.Did every mission in me1 including the mineral gathering and never thought it was tedious to drive.Scanning on the other hand is one of the worst features I've ever seen.
I had no idea many hated the Mako until I came to message boards toward the launch of ME2.

Yeah I liked the Mako, the only driving issue was having to have it level to disembark from it. The controls were basically the same as anything in Halo.

There is some irony in the fact that Mako would be better suited to the small linear missions of the Hammerhead and the Hammerhead would be more suited to quickly zooming around the open maps of the Mako.

At first, I was overjoyed to hear about the the removal of the Mako. I have never done such a fast 180 in my life. I had been through maybe three planets before I had had enough of scanning. Blegh.

Ultimately, Bioware went too far in this particular case, as they did with the blanket removal of elevators.

All it took was some tweaking. A few less sheer cliffs here, a bit more to find there, some tightened controls on top and BOOM. We're good to go. It's a small thing, really, but I felt it better connected the side-quests as well. There's a serious disconnect in ME2 for me. It's just one loading screen after another.

I support the return of a new and improved Mako for ME3. Or just give us the Hammerhead, whatever. I'd just like some planetary running around.

Well Bioware did show us in the end that they got what it takes to make the Mako missions awesome with Bring Down The Sky, which leads me to the new HH firewalker pack... 'da hell are they doing!?

Having ME 1 on the PC, i sincerely loved the Mako, it was like "the british man's" kind of fun, and the planets really gave a feeling of desolation/uncharted/no man's land/etc. and grandure kind of feel which i miss from it's " linear" brother.

Take care guys!

I loved the mako missions in me1, going around planets with the freedom to attack a mission a different way each playthrough. I had no idea other players didn't like it, until I came to this website. I didn't have a problem with the controls on the xbox like some other people. I thought it was the only thing lacking in me2. I thought in me2 they were going to give us a new vehicle with the same open world except with trees and more detail to the planets but unfortunately they didn't. Mass Effect 2 is still a great game, my second favorite game after ME1.Image IPB
