I loved everything about the Mako, control scheme and all.
Hell, if it was easy to drive, it would feel like a toy, not a rover. Cough-Hammerhead-cough.
Although, the bouncing physics weren't my favorite (falling from great heights to land miraculously right-side up), exploring worlds in the mako and sniping with a cannon from a 1/4 mile away(first-person zoom ftw) was pretty frickin' sweet.

I never had an issue with the Mako and when I played Mass Effect 1 I didn't even know people hated it. The only time I had an issue with it was on those ****ing grassy hill planets where the darn Mako didn't like to go up the hills because of the terrain.
I would like to know why people don't complain about the controls with the warthog in Halo because I can't drive that vehicle for the life of me.

I enjoyed the mako.Once I learned how to use everything it had...it became sweeter.
Now the Hammerhead?just dosen't feel as sleek.I guess its just the way it was added back into the game...Not seemless just...just...I dunno.*sighs*

I'm surprised, esp with all the remarks and threads about it, esp on the web. Besides the messed up mountain enviornments that was hard to drive on(thats still no excuse), there were people who really didn't like the control of that thing. I never understood some of the hate, I thought it was pretty easy and straight forward, but it def needed some fine tuning, because it was a pain at times to turn and get situated while in a heated fight. It also felt akward at times, but thats it.

Bah, I liked the Mako. Sure the controls were finicky, even on the PC, but that just made it feel more like an actual vehicle, somehow. And getting into sniper duels with armatures and colossi was *fun*, simply because the amazing bouncing APC must have looked priceless from the outside.
Like many others, the only thing I really had against the experience was the empty maps, the generic landscape (though the skyboxes were usually gorgeous!) and hellish topography of some of the planets. Chasca and her sisters makes me cry.

-I’ve always wondered about that. Did most of the people who hated the Mako just drive to the location on the mini map by driving directly to it or did they take a few seconds to access the full map and look at where they were going and see if there was a better route? Its not like the side quest locations were hard to get to at all to begin with.Faz432 wrote...
….then the people who can't read a terrain map and pre-plan their journey wouldn't have a problem.
It does make you wonder doesn't it? I always thought it was related to a short attention span. The expectation to get to Point B in an expedient manner.
I agree with you. Read the main map, interpret the elevations and don't drop into valleys unless you are prepared to climb back out. The Mako is almost absurdly agile.
The big problem is, that there are many places, where you HAVE TO climb up the mountains, or there is no drivable route. There were many planets, where there were big, huge plains, but everything was between those so called "mountains". It was just annoying. You know it would have been great, if the problem could have been solved with simply driving around the mountains, but sadly, that wasn't the case.

I liked the Mako just fine. It was the layout of some of the planets and the sameness of the encounters that I had problems with. The Hammerhead on a Mako world would have been fine with me. I felt like I was being herded on all the Firewalker missions, and it made the best parts of the DLC the ones where I got *out* of the Mako to take a look around. Also, the Hammerhead isn't nearly as sturdy when you have to race from point to point to keep the engines going. Mako never had that problem. :-)
You could do the Firewalker missions as part of those larger planets to explore. Or you could mix it up like they do with the ground missions. Some missions have the corridor checkpoint approach, others are like the old ME1 planets. That would be fine, too.
