(note: if this is in the wrong forum, please feel free to move it to the correct one)

Okay, so who knew about this and didn't tell me?  According to the press release it has been public since May, and I had to find out about it from some random guy at a party?!  Ridiculous.  <_< (:D)

I assume at least some of you are tabletop RPGers, so who's planning on checking it out to see if it's any good?  I browsed their forums a bit and there doesn't seem to be much information about the game mechanics (or a release date...), however, it's namesake is half as good as all the previews and stuff I've seen so far leads me to believe, how could a pen and paper version be anything but awesome?!

Well?

Oh, we knew. :) We even asked about it when all was silent on the subject, but nothing much was told, so we decided to just wait, as usual.

It only uses six sided dice?! I might have to pass. I love my D20.

I might get it though because maybe my 9 year old would like to play it. He loves Hero Quest!

Back in the interviews this summer, they were giving it a September release date... but I have no clue what their projected release date will be now.

Oh, I already have. We have played the Pathfinder free adventures, and he loved every minute of it. The only problem is its just him and I, and I hate DMing.

As for his math, he is a whiz. He is already understanding division and very simple algebra.

I'm a bit into table top role-playing, but I don't have the time to go through the prep-work and planning that goes into a D&D or d20 system.

The fact that this game only uses 6 sided dice has honestly got some of my interest. I just hope the game will put more emphasis on 'story-telling' then strategy.

lol, yeah. I just don't want to have to get figurines, print out cards, draw a map, figure out equations to play a game. In fact I don't like having a battle map out at all. Much better to do it in words, using your imagination. I mean, that's what that's for right?

Honestly, I dont do any of that while playing a d20 game, other then drawing a map and updating a character sheet. I have always played with everything going on in my head.

Lol, I guess its a problem with 4th edition then. I can't imagine that game working without a battle map and all that stuff.

Dragonage looks like an intersting setting to play a game in though. Plus the guys making this game came up with Mutants and Masterminds, which is a pretty good game from what I've heard. Even though is sort of niche people like it and there are a good amount of fans of the game line.

3.5 is where its at. *hugs his 3.5 phb*

Edit: Sorry, thats the second time ive made a post completely ignoring the topic. Yes, the DA tabletop RPG passed me by too it seems. Im interested in the world and its lore so it would be pretty neat to set a campaign there but as someone else said... 3d6? Thats all you get with it? I think if i ever did get this i would try and translate it into the d20 system. And fail >.>

I haven't played 3.5 in 6 years (I was fifteen...) I remember it being fun. I also felt like I could get more creative then, I'm not sure if that's because I was younger or that because the system was more focused on "storytelling" at that time.

Yeah, I found out about it a while back.

Never had to use figurines or maps when I play D&D or WoD, though I think they're nice details if you want them. Me, I love my d20s and d10s, but I'm also interested in the Dragon Age tabletop. The fact it uses d6 gives me an excuse to use my awesome elvish dice I got from the local game store for free (got them in exchange for drawing the owner into a comic page).

Unfortunately, I won't have the time or money to invest in the the DA tabletop for a while. Oh well.

You are right, you could get more creative. The best gaming memories I have stem back to D&D sessions. Not one comes from a PC or console game.

All this d20 talk makes me want to play. I need to find some people to play with again.  Its been over two years since I have played some serious d20.

Pathfinder Society - Check this out if you're still interested in 3.5 D20 but don't feel like moving to 4th Ed.  It's also great if you don't have a reliable group (in terms of meeting on a weekly basis due to work or the likes) or don't have enough people to play with.  It does a very effective job at streamlining the game as good as possibile in non 4th Ed into 4-6 hour mini-campaigns that *can* be played with different party members all in the same campaign setting.  The biggest part I love about it is how there are a half dozen different factions you can choose from with different backgrounds and 'side-quests' during your party's main mission which brings a lot of role playing to the table, both between players and with the DM.

I highly recommend Paizo, as many of the big players in the OGL universe are working here.  Not to mention people from Wizards and TSR (company is owned by Lisa Stevens, someone who played a huge part in both companies), including editors (James Jacobs), artists, and writers (like Sean Reynolds, who's also very famous in art for Fantasy genres and Monte Cooke - co-author of 3.5 and Jason Bulhman).  Pretty star studded cast if you ask me.  :)

So, am I the only one who bought the Dragon Age set one yet ?

Rules are easy, the number of character possibilities is limited but still larger then what we had in the CRPG and Green Ronin forum members are already adding origins for those who want to try the tabletop RPG.

The best dice systems often only use one type of die.

The West End Games D6 system was amazingly simple, fluid, fast and fantastic. There is World of Darkness, L5R, and others as well.

D20 benefits from its association with D&D, which is a well-known property. But it is far from a great system.

WEG D6 has one mechanic. You can teach someone how to play the game in five minutes. I never once needed books laying around to consult to play.

I assure you, it is far easier to remember than D&D. But for whatever reason, D&D is the game everyone gets introduced to.
