Hell I am a tali fan even I can see that the Quarians started the war. When someone starts a war they can't win that is kind of a idiot move to make in my own opinion.

For all intents and purposes yes.

I appreciate your honesty. We're done here.

They probably didn't comprehend death at the time, either. They may have assumed quarian bodies were as meaningless as their own platforms, for starters...

That could be debated, I believe.  I would think the Geth would know that being deactivated would have been bad but just didn't know why.  Or they could have had that BSG download link thing going.  Who knows *shrug*

An absurdity that barely merits an argument.  I don't agree with a lot of your views, but I thought you were better than that.

I mean, do you seriously want to throw your lot in with him?  He's clearly a dirty hippy.

I'm not the one posting reaction images. Frankly, I'll never consider any synthetic "lifeform" to be alive. A geth is simply a computer program, that's it. They can at best simulate sapience, but they have no mind.

We're getting ahead of ourselves though.

You can't simulate sapience without being sapient.  It doesn't even make sense.  It would be like asking someone to simulate being healthy without being healthy.  You can't separate the outcome from the system that generates it.

Sure you can. You program your robot to react as a real being would. It is thus simulated.

Read up on the Chinese Box.

Data from Star trek wasn't programed to act like a real being. He became sentient over time.

I have.  I would regard the system that is the Chinese Room as being able to communicate in Chinese, even if none of its component parts can.

So to me  he is a great example of not being programed to be a Sentient being. Even though he was a android he was still a sentient being that became one over time, and intercation with the crew of the enterprise.

To me referencing the stupidity that is Star Trek, especially the Next Generation, is not a good way to strengthen your argument.

Note: I like the Quarians a lot and they're one of my favorite races ...

However IIRC the planet was a heavy gravity planet that was better suited for the Elcore. I'm not claiming to be a ME expert but looking at the Quarians I wouldn't be surprised if they came from a low gravity system so having them settle a higher gravity planet wouldn't be a good match.

Devil's Advocate: There should be plenty of other planets that they could colonize that would be suitable to them. IMHO the council should likely have assisted them with finding another planet with the proviso that they don't monkey with VIs / AIs / stay on a war footing with Geth / neighbors / etc.

At least if Shepard [and maybe Legion?] have anything to do with it the Quarians will have a home or there won't be enough left for them to worry about getting a home ....

Everything considered it is rather ironic that the quarians have had something the geth wanted all this time without ever realizing it: culture.

I think it's a bit unfair to side with the Geth against the quarians for the sole fact that once a machine is deactivated you can reactivate it once it proves itself to not be dangerous. Once you "deactivate" living creatures however you can never bring them back to a state of life (Shepard notwithstanding).

The quarians did what they are supposed to do, if a program is obviously erring beyond parameters set, then you try to correct those errors. They made the mistake of making their killbots intelligent but at least they tried to correct the erring programs.

And guys to be true if you saw the fighting odds of quarians in mass effect 2 ...

That makes me laugh ...

In the missions of Tali they all die like fools - they dont know about strategy

and they run panicked hahaha

Stupid lame engineers basicly

Instead Geth is an enless army of robots that the stupid quarians create with their

"experiments"

So i believe in the ME3 they will get whats coming to them :P

JUSTICE !!!

GETH FTW :P

I just find it ironically funny that they were the ones that inestimably put themselves in the way they're now in the first place.

Look at how they don't even cover up the fact that they started the war
with the Geth, but still justify it by saying the Geth would've
exterminated them anyway... for no good reason.

They had every reason to fear the geth. Shutting the geth down was the rational decision considering the information available to them at the time.

What, that the Geth were becoming sapient?
How would that be a rational decision for anyone other than overlords who feared losing control of their slaves?

Exactly how were the Quarians anyone other than overlordswho feared losing control of their slaves?

It's true. They panicked because the Geth became capable of individual thought. I'm capable of individual thought. Doesn't mean I'm going to go off and commit genocide...

Or WILL I...?

Look at real world events. People cling very hard to areas that they feel belong to them or did belong to them at one time and getting back the land of their ancestors is a very big deal even if the land or territory is not great in the grand scheme of things.

Not the central issue, but thought its worth saying. The immune system was still an issue 250 years ago. It was an issue with their race before the Geth. They are just a poor race. I prefer the geth all in all :)
