It's not exactly star trek but energy is virtually free in ME, the Quarians have some of the best technical expertise around Just building infrastructure with simple heavy mechs should be easy enough for a few quarians to set up, no advanced VI needed. Well, energy may not have been a problem, but (1) I doubt they have a strong industrial infrastructure either. (2)There's also the case of bringing seeding water into the planet, (3) finding ways to counteract solar radiation, (4) genetically enhancing organisms so they can create an organic-friendly atmsophere, adding greenhouse gases to maintain a stable comfortable temperature, etc. (5) There's also potential environmental damage for native lifeforms.

I mean they can certainly do better than colonists in garden worlds in pre-fabricated structures, but in the long run why terraform when there are already garden worlds available?

(1) They are almost all tech geniuses, they can design and build their infrastructure the same way they maintain 300 year old ships. With the freedom of space they could do some amazing things.

(2) Mine a water world, or just take a few comets. Water is one of the most common molecules in the universe.

(3) Why would solar radiation be a problem?

(4) You wouldn't have to and they wouldn't want to. Their native planet was without harmful pathogens so don't just introduce any old thing into a virgin environment, They have a working ecosystem on the food producing ships just recreate that either in scaled up but contained versions on planet or into the 'wilds' of the new world.

(5) They have to start with a lifeless planet otherwise they will get sick (well sicker than being exposed to other Quarians). So there's no native environment or organisms to worry about. Think either a newly formed planet that has cooled but not yet developed life or a dead rock like the moon or mars.

Yeah, but it isn't just one geth it is millions of geth. Furthermore, that one geth shouldn't have been able to ask such questions in the first place. That he is means he is malfunctioning. Designed A.I. are dangerous enough, much less an accidental one. Just look at the A.I. on the Presidium. That one came about via' "accident" as well and look at what it tried to do.

The quarians knew they would be faced with millions of such A.I. in short order. The responsible thing to do was to deactivate them and figure out what they were dealing with.

Why exactly do you think AI's are dangerous?

In the ME universe, every hostile AI is fighting for continued existence. The one you mentioned on the Presidium was trying to escape from the Citadel, because it knew what organics did to AI's. It seems to me that the only reason AI's become a threat is because people keep trying to destroy them, forcing them to fight back. If you don't try to destroy an AI, what reason would it have to fight against you?

My head says that the Quarians should make nice with the geth. Both sides were wrong in the morning war. Quarians panicked, its a totally understandable reaction. The Geth should not have completely wiped them off the face of the galaxy. I like the Quarians a lot and want them to get their home-world back. I also believe that it is possible considering that the geth don't want it.



My gut wants to wipe those damn synthetics off the map. Slaughter them all, burn their stations kill millions of mobile platforms, bomb them form orbit, use nuclear weapons on them. Destroy the geth utterly. Given the option in ME3 I will do both.



Now, anyone who thinks that the quarians can't win because they can fight, have sno strategy and such is a complete idiot. Let's look a Haestrom shall we? A small tem of Quarians goes on to Haestrom to collect data. They get spotted by a geth ship. Now, we don't know how many geth are inside a ship but there were probably hundred of mobile platforms. The small team of 10-20 quarians holds out against a massive Geth force for hours until reinforcements arrive and still complete their mission.



Bear in mind that the geth had colossi, air support and tons of troops

Well first of all that was only a single Geth patrol, and the Quarians were losing against them. Tali would have been killed had Shepard not shown up. That's not to say those Quarians were completley incompetent, even if it doesn't appear that way when you actually see them. But you have to remember that these were elite Quarian marines. According to Reeger, the average Quarian soldiers are much, much worse. Their survival odds are probably equivalent to that of an Imperial Guardsmen.

They rely on secrecy and fast hard strikes. I sometimes wonder if people know anything about real warfare when they criticize the Migrant Fleet Marines. 10 men can't beat 100 with air and armour support, not in Mass Effect, not in real life, not ever.

Besides, we also know that human marines didn't fare much better against the geth on Eden prime, so do the Alliance marines suck as well. Why infact, the only species we've seen demonstrate any level of competence are the Salarians.

Alliance Marines: get pwned hard on Eden prime
Asari Commandos: Shepard wipes the floor with their faces
Krogan: Killed more than I can count
Blue Suns, Eclipse, Blood pack: Held up by a single turian

So, we haven't seen the Turian army in action and we know STG is good at what they do, compared to shepard, no one is good

Agreed, their fleet is outdated but well maintained and well crewed. Codex states that they have hundreds of warships and the rest of the fleet is armed. Due to pirate attacks most are battle tested as well.
