we talked about this before, but somebody on gamefaqs remains persistent that the console version's normal mode is equivalent to the pc's easy mode, which is true im pretty sure, but then he says the other difficulties of the console are bumped down too, so it is like the console doesn't even get a nightmare mode, since the nightmare mode is equivalent to the pc's "hard" mode.

This is a link to the debate we are having, I am deeply upset regarding this guy:  http://www.gamefaqs....&topic=51830339

is this true or not?  Only difference between normal and easy is friendly fire being turned off on easy, so i don't see the other difficulties being bumped down on the console versions as well?

In larger battles there are waves of enemies rather than a full out swarm, I think that's the issue, IIRC. I forget if the number of enemies per 'wave' was mentioned, but it has to do with consoles not having the memory to handle much else on the screen.

yes but bioware said somewhere the console versions will "buff up" the lesser amount of enemies on the screen to make upf or it. That is not what we're talking about here.

we're talking about does the console versions get a true "hard" and "nightmare" mode.

I don't really think it's worth fighting over but SoN post makes sense to me. That could be the explanation if it is true. Anyway most people aren't huge about difficulty levels in games, most of my friends just play on normal and call it a day, so in the grand scheme of things, most people aren't going to notice, only really, really hardcore gamers are going to care -too- much.

I mean I'm a hardcore gamer (in that I buy and play a lot of games) and I really don't mind the difficulty level being one way or the other, I just want to play the game.

Edit: Wanted to add that as long as it's fun and has some challenge to it. It doesn't have to be a huge amount of challenge though, just challeging enough to have fun.

The way the console normal difficulty is like the PC easy difficulty is that there's no friendly fire on the console on normal.

once again, im not talking about the pc having more on screen. im talking about the console still having a nightmare and hard more equivalent to the pc's, since the console will have lesser enemies on screen buffed up.

Honestly I would not care. I trust that the fights will be interesting no matter if on PC or console, no matter if hard mode or nightmare.

And the fights are not even half the reason I want this game ...

You know its always possible to make it harder on yourself by doing something to make your character more crappy or restrict yourself to not using a certain strategy.

Also less party members would make it more challenging.

Me im gonna solo.

Was just about to suggest that. If the difficulty bothers you that much you could simply wear gear that isn't up to par with things you would get normally. Should the console versions get a "true" Nightmare mode? Honestly, I think if you asked most people they couldn't possibly careless about it.

I don't think you can beat nightmare mode with a controller and a lot of cycle systems.

both console and pc have the same settings of difficulty the enemy count during battles are the only differences in the difficulty settings

Keep in mind that the 360 version still lets you pause and all that... as long as you can pause, you have just as much control as when playing the PC version, it just takes a bit more micromanagement since you have to manually walk people to their destinations.

im also willing to bet they added a couple more AI scripts to the console version to make up for this.....and by AI scripts i mean assigning ur characters specific roles ie mage healing party if health drops below a certain number

ppl get the enemy number and the difficulty settings mixed up for the console.....it will be just as hard as pc

Really?  I've played tactical shooters that let you give commands like "Green team move here and provide suppressing fire" on the PS2 as far back as '02, with just a couple button presses.

Hope it's not true ... these games are always too easy out of the box, so I always pump it up to the highest difficulty.

Eh, I'm not really worried about it. I plan on getting the PC version as soon as I get a new computer, so the console is just to tide me over. Besides, I play these games for the story, and I tend to leave the difficulty on Normal or Easy, as combat is just a means to an end for me.

I've played Dragon Age on both a console and a PC, and I find that both platforms have their challenges.

I own DA for both xbox and PC, and have completed it on both patforms on nightmare mode.   I agree with you that both have thier challeneges.  The xbox controls are clunky and imprecise and the lack of a large shotcut bar is a hinderance, especially for mages.  The PC version is actually designed to be difficult in places instead of relying on cruddy controls to make it so.

To the OP (who i doubt will read this because someone necroed the thread):  The xbox version is definately an easier game, but the actual settings are the sae.  The big difference comes from the small enemy group sizes and placement .  I only play on the xbox when i am very bored and my cmputer cycles ae tied up with more important things.
