As always, this guide is written for players playing on Normal difficulty.
Also, due to many different outcomes in storyline progression, this
fight might unfold differently. This guide will walk you through the
fight against the High Dragon in Haven.
Party Setup:
- Tank
- Ranged DD (In this case my rogue, equipped with a bow)
- Ranged DD (Mage perferibly)
- Healer
able to do this encounter without a healer or mage, this is just the
way I did it.
The Fight:
Positioning
Place your ranged characters away from your tank, a fairly good distance, double the range of your Cone spells should be sufficient. Further back than necessary is better because when you have your tank blow the horn the dragon will drop in doing and AoE knockdown.
Following the drop in, pause to micro your characters into place. Put your tank at one end (the closest) making the dragon face away from the party. Then, move all of your ranged away from the dragon, the distance you are looking for is slightly out of range for your cone spells. This makes it so you will avoid being tail swiped. Turning the dragon away from the group avoids your ranged from being breathed on. Remember to keep an eye out for when she breathes because you can move your tank slightly out of the way to avoid a constant flow of damage.
For my first Ranged DD I simply left her autoattacking because she was a rogue with zero archery abilties, so the way you manage this character will be different. As for your healer, if you have the talent, life ward your tank and be sure to throw up heroic defense (if you have it) when she breathes, or keep it up as often as possible to reduce damage. Now the mage is what is going to require the most micro (and its not even that much). Whenever your Cone of Cold is up, you run forward and cast it, to where the Cone just barely hits her, and then you run back (spam your fire or lightning one as well if you have it). Repeating this process will avoid your mage from being 1 hit tail swiped and still be able to do your stuns (reduces incoming damage) and increase your damage output.
Things to remember:
The fight is competely worth it. She drops A LOT of stuff. Also, you need to stay ontop of your healing, don't just run with the tactics (unless you have it set up to heal at <75% health). The dragon can, and probably will pick up your tank at least once and jossle him around a bit (this is where lifeward comes in hand) so you need to keep his health up. You can also stun, paralyze, or Cone of Cold the dragon to make her drop the tank from her grip. For the most part, this entire fight is very simple, just make sure you have hold position on and are paying attention to your tanks health along with your mages cooldowns. If at first you don't succeed, refine, redo and reread.
Good luck!
