When people were talking about the Dark Wolf before launch, I was snickering. I like that bit of reactivity. I have no idea how many people will come across that. :)

I really appreciated it - so thank you! I loved his 'um... i thought the original dark wolf might ahve been dead, so...' response. He was right, though - being an Arl made my dark-wolf antics rather inconvenient, so I was happy for him to take up the mantle. TBH, I think I'm one of few people who had utterly no continuity errors in Awakening, even the epilogue meshed perfectly with my Origins one. Little things like Dworkin commenting on who I elected in Orzammar, the Dark Wolf, Alistair's romance-reaction at the start. Somehow it all meshed perfectly.

I love Martin, but I don't want him to pull a Jordan on us :(

Oh, I know. He's on the old and really fat side which equals a bad combination. I think he is older then when Jordan died too.

Jordan had some sort of blood disease if I'm not mistaken.  I havn't read the SoIaF books yet, mostly because I'm waiting for Sanderson to finish up the WoT series before I get into it.

I agree that it's a very good thing, and the Grey Wardens are basically the Night's Watch, just with an actual enemy to guard against, rather than an icy wall...

basically, Dragon Age is a glorious mishmash of A Song of Ice and Fire, The Wheel of Time books, and Lord of the Rings....

in other words, 3 of my favorite things coming together in one place! couldn't be better

also, and  I know this is COMPLETELY off topic, but do you think Theon is dead?

I'm thinking his skin is hanging in some dark room in the Dreadfort. I certainly hope Roose Bolton flayed that bastard!

What is this in reference to?  I must have missed it in Origins, or am simply blanking on it, one or the other.  How do you start the quest that deals with this in Origins?

Also, I did the Dark Wolf choice.  it amused me greatly.  "Dark Wolf?  No, I''ve never been involved in that!"  *nervous laughter*

I loved that when you finally meet him you can accuse him of stealing your identity - priceless bit of continuity there. But then Ferret wrote the Slim Couldry quest chain, so the continuity was sorta expected. Still, loved it. And I loved his response - it looks like you might've started a trend!

On my first run-through I went with the Dark Wolf, on teh second I waited. I think waiting nets you the most interesting outcome (haven't tried hostages yet, though). Alas, if you wait Ser Tamra dies - though if you don't she's never heard from again.

Stealing your identity? What do you mean? Who is he? I'm confused.

If you complete Slim Couldry's quests in Denerim then people start calling you the Dark Wolf.

When i first met the guard and she spoke of this "Dark Wolf" / Ser Wolf of Rivian, i could have sworn it was some sort of homage to The Witcher game main character - White Wolf / Geralt of Rivia.

Gues i was wrong (?).

Well it could be but you don't get to accuse him of stealing your identity unless you complete the quests and Slim tells you people are calling you that.

Yeah. Basically the Warden *is* the Dark Wolf, its the name they get given by the end of the Crime Wave/Slim Couldry quest chain. The one in Awakening just stole your identity and continues your legacy (stealing from nobles and generally making their life difficult).

yeah, I took hostages... Very Song of Ice and Fire

Or it's just a common practice of old monarchies, or even modern totalitarian regimes, so it shows up in the plots of a lot of low fantasy, historical or political intrigue settings...

I paid the Dark Wolf. Going for hostages next time, I think.

I heard that if you do not deal with the plot as early as possible then it makes the peasant revolution worse and you cannot pass your persuade checks...

There was some link between the peasant revolt and the conspiracy, and some trigger that prevented some people from talking them out of it.

I think it has an impact on the peasants attitude in the endgame, too.

So I always do the Dark Wolf early... I haven't waited.

Is it just a bigger attack in the Vigil involving the nobles and a crow... anything else?

The ambush is several white nobles/crows and one orange crow. You just get some cool scenes with Varel and a bit of extra dialogue after it. I never really thought you could persuade the peasants unless you actually gave them food. I intimidated them and told them I'd murder them and torture their families this time - that gave them pause. Bloody peasants.

I've only done the Dark wolf route, but sitting and witing sounds intriguing now. Maybe I'll try that next time.

And on the topic of George R.R. mArtin... I've pretty much given up on him and moved on. His books are great, but he takes way to damn long. I suggest people try out Steven Erikson. His current series, the books of the fallen, are just amazing.

Boltons, Greyjoys, Freys....I hope they all get whats coming to them. Robb Stark was the man. :(

I haven't figured out how I get where I get on mine. In one, I seem to have killed them via the Dark Wolf's information. (and my mage was the Dark Wolf. Imposter!) In another, the chicken lady attacks me in the Keep. (and I must make clucking noises whenever I see her. I fully expect her to pause, peck at the ground, seize a worm, then go back to attacking) If I don't pay The Wolf, I seem to be attacked, & that's that. It also seemed to make some difference as to whether I get the obnoxious, chunkhead noble to imprison/execute/free, and whether the blonde spy girl is killed by him.

Oh- it took me awhile to figure out that I could get Slim's quests on any class, if I took one point in stealing. (which is all you need) They were fun, so I do it on all mine now.

I didn't pay Dark Wolf anything - had no idea whose side he was on - persuaded the peasants that if they took over the keep, they'd get screwed when the darspawn showed up and killed all the nobles who attacked me.

Yep.

This is what I heard. You *need* to deal with the conspiracy early or the nobles manipulate the peasants into a revolt and you *always* fail your persuade checks... it also leads to a different epilogue for the people of Amaranthine regarding you.

It also alters the trial if you talk to the Dark Wolf, and you get different events.

I did and went to Old Stark's Farm and only fought a single Crow... a pity. The main Crow in the full ambush can randomly drop a unique item you cannot get anywhere else... but it is rare, apparently.

hmm I dealt with it early one time by dealing with the DW and going to the farm. Then I had to delete that game because of the silverite mine bug (which I had no other saves to back me up, stupid I know). Then on my full playthrough I wanted to see just WHO was the one behind the conspiracy and let them attack me.

On neither of those plays when I got the peasant revolt did my persuade work. I think HOW you deal with the conspiracy not when is key. I asked and someone else did quite different things from my choices then intimidated the hell outta the peasants and they dispersed without a fight. He got no further revolts in his epilogue.

I ended up having to fight them cause I wasn't going to coddle them (as I hear that had bad repercussions in your epilogue) and the ending with my peasants turned out fine, no further revolts and they all loved the WC cause I originally sent soldiers to help guard their farms.

Apparently - you *have* to take Dark Wolf's option before the revolution...

And you have to spare the peasant and jail the soldier - then the persuade checks work.

I think it is balancing how the peasants feel you show favor to either the nobles or military.

I know that sparing or killing the soldier will make the other soldiers angry and has an impact on the end.

Giving the peasants grain or killing them both lead to different epilogues, I think.

To tell the truth, this is all hearsay - I haven't done any other route.

Could be.  I didn't get the deserter, I got a murderer and him  I locked up in prison for the long long looooong investigative process.  The peasant guy I let into the army and told him feed his family.

The peasants still revolted and didn't listen to my persuades. Though waiting for the conspirators to come to me just added to the drama of the revolt since Varel does mention the two could be related.
