My sentinel inspects the floor more than my vanguard ever does.

I guess it's because I'm used to fighting with my shotgun rammed down the enemy's throat.

How can I make my Senty more... formidable? What bonus ability do you recommend? He already comes with warp and overload, so I didn't bother with Reave so much. Was thinking maybe one of the shield boosts, what about armor boost? anyone do that?  Right now I'm using warp ammo, but I think I might change to incendiary or rely on a squad incendiary power to better deal with regenerating enemies.

Also what weapon specialization? I was thinking either the assault rifle or the shotgun, because I love firing within arm's reach of the enemy so my shield explodes and makes everyone unhappy.

My suggestion... create a seperate save for the shotty and AR and then recruit Samara afterwards. She has a fair share of barrier/shielded group of enemies on her level which makes it a good testing ground for how you want to play your Sentinel. I went back and forth from Commando and Commander style. All in all, I like them both.

I use assault rifle every time I make a sentinel. It allows for a more wide use and is my "go to gun type". As for the bonus ability, I use AP/Tungsten Ammo (Looks good with the tech armor lol) but I really find it useful since you already strip shields with overload and dmg barriers with warp leaving you with more power to dmg armor and health. Also, any bonus ability that gives shields is redundant, tech armor is the best in the game period and I believe they do not stack.

Yeah, I was thinking about how a shield boost ability would be redundant. Maybe if the powers were not global, (like in ME1) it would be more useful. So I should stick with an Ammo power then? It seems like warp and overload are good enough offensive abilities and tech armor does the job of any shield booster...

That would be useful if he were discussing the ME1 sentinel

Warp ammo is also pretty good, do whatever feels right.

Maybe energy drain? Replacing overload obviously, caning shields while boosting your own. Does mean that if you like cryo blast you'd have to "waste" 3 points to unlock it. An ammo power is a definite possiblity, warp or ap. Slam is another, letting you set up warp bombs quickly. Maybe even shredder ammo (madness, what am I doing?!) if you commonly find yourself shooting enemies whose protections you've stripped with abilities.

Or do you play commando shep? With the tech explosion a big part of your play? In which case I could only really recommend an ammo power, warp or tungsten. Maybe slam, to CC someone and/or set up a WE.

FYI, barrier/fort/GSB do stack with tech armour, it's just the boringly long cooldowns that prevent them being used more often, if they get shot off in combat you won't waste the CD to reaply them.

Dominate should be nice as a distraction. All enemies concentrate on the dominated one and you could shot them in the back with you shotty.

Assault Armor + Barrier/Geth-Shield-Boost is good post upgrades.
Before that i'd just use reave so i don't have to worry about warp explosions so much...after all you are an aggressive build.

Get use to using an SMG more.

SLAPS FORHEAD  thought it was the mass effect 1 froum lol.

Gets out her mass effect  2 character

Throw: At  4

Tech amour does come in handy  so I keep that at 4
I   go with the sniper rifle. as the collector ship upgrade.
I have slam, and barrier as bonus power.
My specialty is at 4 and I pick the one that helps my  Paragon renegade for the 100%
Slam is at 4
Barrier is at 2

im actually not a fan of tech armor at all. i love its look in the game, but i feel like i have just as many shields playing a non sentinel as i do with the tech armor sentinel. plus the 12 second recharge is awful. it makes you wait and hide in cover anyways cuz if you get shot at for 2 seconds out of cover and loose tech armor, your ****ed for the next 10 seconds anyways. 9 seconds cool down woulda been better.

I personally use the following setup and nothing can stop me:

Max assault armor

Max guardian

Use the Tempest SMG or an Assault Rifle

Move towards your enemies while firing until your assault armor blows off. Once it blows off, reapply tech armor and find cover. Once your cooldown has recharged to the point where you will be able to reapply tech armor by the time it blows off then advance again. You can basically steamroll every mission on insanity using this method at very good speeds and without ever taking health damage. Supplement this strategy with your choice of overload/warp/reave and squad biotics and you have one of the best classes in the game.

^^^See, this I agree with :o

I personally like taking Energy Drain instead of overload for the synergy with tech armor. Overload is better on unshielded opponents for the overheat, but I generally don't use it for that. Taking Reave over Warp is also not bad if you always bring a Warper. The downside is you can't set up warp explosions on certain loyalty missions. Never ever take ammo as a bonus power. Just bring Jacob for Pull Field and Inferno Ammo always.

Pre-Horizon this setup drove me crazy because I didn't have any other powers, the cooldown was too long, and the armor didn't last.  Post-Horizon it's amazing.  Post Collector Ship it's unstoppable!  It's why I like going caster early on and growing my beard later.
