Ok, so here is the low down. I have been having problems with side quests all game. I ROLL over the main game content like a steam roller, killing darkspawn and brood mothers and princes, and what not.

Then I roll into Denerhim (sorry if the spelling on that is wrong) and I go to fight some street thugs. And they total my group for over an hour.

Same group...everyone is 13, except me, i am 14, and I am playing on normal.
Wynn (again sorry if I mispell something): Maxed out all her healing skills, also have crushing prison for CC
Alister: Have all the tanking talents, he is in full Blood Dragon armor (or whatever the DLC armor was)
Female Rogue (NPC, can't remember her name) almost has all the archery talents, has the spear chucker bow.
Me, a Dwarf DPS Warrior, 2 handed tree: In full Legion of thr dead gear..well over 30 con, well over 40 str.

I have TONS of pots, with people using them at 50% health. I am micro-managing everyone one all the time (I like to play that way), esspecially the healer.

And yet they just destroying me. They have 13 guys, one of whom is yellow, including 4 archers ALL with scattershot (so chain stuns into death is the norm). There is no where to hide from the archers, you cannot attack them before they attack you, and heroic aura doesn't seem to help with the stun from scattershot.

So what am I doing wrong? How come bosses at the end of story line quests are cake walks compared to your local street gang?

And this isn't the first time this has happened either. No one needs to mention the Dragons, but they aren't the only other side quest that has just destoyed me. The early quest to save the dwarf merchant who joins you at the first town took me about 1 hour to beat, constant death and reloads. The "off the books" proving matches in the dwarven city made me want to tear my hair out. The fights with the reverants (from the glass vials you always break) are 10 minute ordeals that cost me dearly in potions, the bandit attack to learn about the female rogue npc's ex-partnet was slaughter, etc...and I am sure this trend will continue further, just as I am sure I am leaving out tons of hard encounters that were purely optional.

I am a completionist, and I LOVE this game, but it is getting to the point where I don't want to help anyone with anything ever, because I know I am going to get 2 gold and a little exp for an hour of work and 20 potions...

Should I just turn the game to easy? Do I suck? Is there something wrong with my party? Have other people had similar experiences? Let me know what you think and if there is any advice you can give me. Thanks.

Yeah those fights were amazingly hard provided that the enemy was a local street gang. You dont need to fight any of the archers if you position your group behind a corner. That's what I did. Most of the archers are set in place behind those box barricades. I just had Alistair tanking the whatever-the-yellow-enemy-is while other party members kept killing white enemies. With proper tanking talents Alistair will hold most of the enemies to himself so Wynne can keep him topped and the rest of your party shouldnt take any damage. Always kill the enemies with a 2 handed weapon first since those do the most damage to Alistair. I Hope this was useful.

I've used mass crowd control like the glyph combo and sleep to a great effect, plus AoE damage spells.

Doesn't Wynne have Earthquake? Cast Earthquake on the archers to keep them busy. Try casting Crushing Prison on the yellow and other strong opponents to keep them out of the game while you decimate the weaker bandits.

Yeah, I have earthquake, doesn't seem to do much. I am using crushing prison on the yellow to buy myself time, and there are no corners on the current map...The last gang I fought in the city (there are 3 gangs) was very very very hard, but there was a corner, so I used it to my advantage and won (after using like 4 health and 2 mana pots and having 2 people die anyways). But this map has no corners...archers get you no matter what...
