I'm planning on recording a cutscene in-game and editing it in Premiere to use as an intro movie (adding music and credits); much like the one of Duncan at the beginning of the main campaign.
I've finished the cutscene and am ready to record it, but as I was increasing my video settings ingame, I wondered just what screen resolution would be best for the video.
I've got a 23" monitor I like to run at 1920 x 1080, but i realize a lot of people do not have widescreen monitors. I was wondering if anyone knew what size the in-game movies were or where I can find them on my harddrive.

They're probably all *.bik files... and radgametools probably still has their free player for them which might give you some info or a better idea of their size exactly.
You run at a similar resolution as I do, but just thought I'd mention anyway that I find the game-rendered cutscenes generally better than the movies' quality by a long shot.
Anyway, in my game's install folder, they're under here if you want to take a look at them.
Dragon Age\\modules\\single player\\data\\movies
Dragon Age\\packages\\core\\data\\movies
Dragon Age\\addins\\dao_prc_ep_1\\core\\data\\movies (if you have Awakening)

Thanks for all the help, mate! I had to do a lil' trial and error work since RAD tools' viewer doesn't have a property viewer, but it looks like they were compressed to about 1280 x 720. Since it's so close to our favorite aspect ratio, the higher the resolution, the better.
But you're right. It's easy to tell when DA:O slips from in-game renderings to the grainy video. If I didn't want to overlay some opening credits and a title, I'd definitely stick with the in-game video. Thanks again for the help!

If you open RAD Video Tools and navigate to the folder containing the .bik movies and merely select one instead of opening it you can click the File Info button (second row, second from the right) which will confirm the resolution as 1280x720 (and a bunch of other stuff).RandomFellow wrote...
