I encountered two problems with Shale.
The first is that sometimes all his spells are missing their descriptions. They tell the sta cost, the duration, de cooldown, but it missed the name (i think) and the description.

The second problem is that at times you can't start a conversation with him. This seems to occur only while the descriptions of his abilities are missing.

Edit: Restarting the game doesn't solve this. I've checked under DLC and it says enabled for the Stone Prisoner DLC.
I'll check in a minute if travelling to another place, or remaking a party solves it.

I have the same problem. All the powers are missing their descriptions and flavor text and he can only activate his warrior-group powers, the shale-specific powers are unable to activate. He animates for the power activation, but there is no other effect of clicking that button.
