Bioware,
Two things I want to say today. First off, I want to thank you for the brilliant universe you've crafted in Mass Effect. The first Mass Effect incorporated enough familiar elements of RPG games to make transition from other games seamless, but also gave us a "fresh" look at RPG. The storyline from the start was immersive, engaging, and incorporated a sense of scale that was enormous. I felt so much a part of the Mass Effect universe, as a human being, and as a person. I was genuinely saddened when I had to make the Virmire choice between my two human squad members. I gripped my controller so hard it hurt when Sovereign got inside the Citadel and I had to stop Saren once and for all. The gameplay was satisfying in every aspect, and combined with the storyline, the graphics, the sounds, everything, to make a fantastic game, a credit to the seasoned veterans of game making at Bioware.

Now recently we have seen much evidence to support the generalisation that sequels are usually worse than their respective originals. Bioware, you brought this generalisation to the ground and tore it apart! Mass Effect 2 took everything that was good in Mass Effect and IMPROVED on it. The gameplay (especially the combat) remains faithful to the original, but is ten times as fun. Graphics have been improved, the sounds and music as just as awesome as the first game. The music must be given special commendation, as it is amazing. It fuses both traditional instruments with electronic sounds to create something that's truly unique. The suicide mission theme from number two genuinely gets my adrenaline pumping. The storyline has progressed and given us a sense of impending doom, of inevitability, as the Reaper horde marches towards our galaxy. It is a situation only Shepard will be able to solve. I could go on, but I might get carried away. In short: Mass Effect 2 is truly truly awesome, setting the standard for both RPG games and shooters for years to come. Thank you with all my nerdy heart, Bioware. You have given so many people such an awesome experience in Mass Effect. I am currently in the process of writing two full-length essays on Mass Effect, the first of which should make its appearance on the forums fairly soon. I own both the Revelation and Ascension books, and can't wait for Retribution. Once again, the universe you've created is simply amazing.

The second part of my message is a plea: PLEASE, please, just keep doing what you're doing. Put the same effort into Mass Effect 3. Advance it, tweak it, improve it, as you have done from 1 to 2. Too many times have I been disappointed by companies making sequels for the sake of sequels. I have faith in you, Bioware, I really do. I am confident that you can pull this off. You seem to care about your fans, not just about money. If you take Mass Effect to YET another level of awesomeness in number 3, or even keep it at the same awesome level as number 2, I will genuinely consider making some sort of donation to you, or something, just to show my appreciation. For the first time in a long time, I have the opportunity to experience a massively, absolutely thrilling game series that gets more awesome as you go along, and doesn't spike at the first game and get worse from there. You're on the right track, Bioware, you've done everything right so far. Whilst there will always be some small complaints here and there, by and large you've done brilliantly, epically, wickedly, you've just plainly taken almost every other game I've played and taken a crap on it. Please, please, please, continue to do as well as you've done. I HAVE FAITH in you, as I'm sure so many other fans do as well.

Are you on Bioware's payroll by chance? lol!

While the game was excellent... there were far too many ball drops in character development and the story itself.

That is what RPGs are all about. Story. Story. Story.

There is a distinct lack of continuity in ME2 when compared to ME1. Sorry... it's just fact.

No, I am not on Bioware's payroll, although with the amount of recruiting I've done, I definitely deserve it!

And what do you mean, AndroLeonidas? Like, can you give examples pl0x?

ME1 failed as an RPG too. At least ME2 was a good shooter.

Honestly I couldn't call ME2 a good shooter and if I wanted to play one I'd pop in one that i already own. That being said, I'm not saying ME2 is a pure shooter or wasn't a good game, to me it just wasn't as excellent as the OP says, but that's his opinion and he's allowed to have it.

Edit:
I also hate when people say RPGs are about story, we should be demanding that every game had a great story.  How awesome would a game like Gears be if it had a BioWare quality story?

At least Gears of War is a fully baked shooter.  What we got with ME 2 is a half baked shooter and a nonexistant storyline.  I wouldn't see much of  a difference if Gears of War had a "bioware" quality story.

ME1 / ME2 - very very good games... i should know i've been playing games since King's Quest 1

well my gripe about ME1 was about the cookie cutter side missions but that was acceptable during that time... and yeah inventory management sucked...

ME2 - dumbed it down a bit in terms of RPG game mechanics but made up for in immersive action.... what ticked me off was that i couldn't take out my helmet when i felt like to (like in ME1)... another thing i hated about it is you ****had*** to have a heavy weapon system even for adepts that didn't need it... at least give me the option to leave weapons i don't like back on the ship...

the very best part of the ME2 is the final cut scenes before the entering the base... made you really feel that what you have done makes a difference.

Did any of you read that article some years back in PCG where a guy still had his pre-order Duke coupon? They had a pic and everything. He keeps it in his wallet. I believe the company responded and said that they will still honor it (if it ever comes out that is).

EDIT: Oh yeah, and the obligitory, OP is wrongzies!

You all suck, there's nothing wrong with writing a thread in appreciation to Bioware and the great job they've done with the Mass Effect franchise. Stop being killjoys.

I thoroughly enjoyed ME/ME 2. Yes, there are small parts that I feel personally can be improved, but you know what? That happens in every game. Game developers aren't super-human; there's always going to be one or two glitches in the gameplay.

I don't care. They've done really well and I can play these games over and over without getting bored. *gives thumbs up*

Thats pretty righteous++

Shame 3D realms though, actually played Duke Nukem 3D recently and it is quite interesting. Kind of like Marathon, the whole gimmicky ripping of of Bruce Campbell thing is annoying but from a gameplay standpoint it was surprisingly progressive.
