So, I know that good books don't necessarily translate into amazing video games (ie Dante's Inferno), yet there are so many stories out that that would make amazing video games, if done well.  Thus I have to ask: what video games based on books would you be interested in playing?

 I'd like a 1984 themed adventure game.

That could be cool.

I'd be interested to see a game based on Les Miserables- there's lots of drama and action, which makes it pretty epic.  An adventure game based on The Three Musketeers could also be quite entertaining.

I'm playing Lord of the Rings Online--quite an enjoyable game. There's lots of story involved, memorable places to visit, epic adventures, you name it.

They are making an RPG based off of the Wheel of Time series. I hope that they do the series justice.

Obsidian is also making a single-player RPG based on it.

I think a game based on Tad Williams's Otherland series would be pretty interesting.

WTB Dark Tower game, not the main story, but set in the same universe.

The book Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan is pretty awesome and would form a good foundation for an epic game.

Games based on Dune books, but actually following the main plot not just using the setting. Although, it's pretty sure that it's never gonna happen because of the very nature of Dune - it's way too political and "talky". But then again, there's supposed to be a new (remake?) movie coming so we may at least see a movie game... yeah.

The game Frank Herbert's Dune followed the main plot of the book... but the developers went bankrupt shortly after the game was released and so the story was never finished.

It was a stealth/action game as opposed to the 4 other Dune games which were all largely strategy games (though Dune 1 had some nice adventure elements).

I'd really like a RPG using the Dune universe.

Yeah, but only really good Dune game that followed the main plot was Dune from 1992. (one you already mentioned and which was basically all about the Arrakis campaign). Don't get me wrong, Dune 2 is a freaking grandfather of RTS' and Emperor: Battle for Dune was quite good (while I'm still trying to forget some like Frank Herbert's Dune), but there never was an all-encompassing (or at least focused on individual time periods) game that followed the Dune saga.

Indeed :D
The Dark Tower: Gunslingers of Gilead or something would be an awesome name.

if anyone has read anything by mathew reilly, his books would make some decent "COD-like" games and a pretty juicy mix between uncharted and COD

I think Lian Hearn's Tales of the Otori Series would make an excellent Action/Stealth RPG game. It's got a really good setting based on feudal Japan and there are some really excellent characters and story as well as action(the main character is an assassin with mystical powers, very much like a ninja).

The Stainless Steel Rat series by Harry Harrison. For those who don't know, it is a sci-fi series following Jim DiGriz aka. The stainless steel rat, the most notorious thief in space. He gets busted and gets recruited as a cop. There are about ten different books involving him saving the universe from dictators, aliens, traveling through time, and drinking his way through the novel. It would be perfect as an RPG with dialog wheels and multiple paths, or a stealth adventure game.

I wouldn't mind seeing a game based on the Dresden Files series, if it was done justice. It's hard for me to come up with any books I would like to see in video game. Imagining a beloved novel as a game is a leapt my mind can't easily make. Maybe because I've played a few awful book to game titles before.

I don't think so; that's a bit too much.

Like someone else said, I hope that the WoT game is good.  I've only read three of the books and think there are better writers out there, but it would be a fun game to play.

I second the idea of a Dark Tower game.

There's also supposed to be a game based on the battle room of Ender's Game.  I wonder how that will turn out.

You mean by having it start out pretty good and then just drone on and on about things that are completely irrelevant to the plot for so long that you can't even remembre what the game is about?
