Shepard reaches up to touch the communication jewel in his ear.
Joker: Shepard, what's going on? I haven't been able to contact you all night.
Shepard: Everything is under control down here Joker. Just keeping the pimp hand strong.
Que opening credits and Shaft theme song.

Something engaging and emotional, ur LI being captured maybe? Or it could defult to Tali, who seems to be the only character not bad ass enough to be captured. I assume this would ge people hooked into the game from the start. Either this or a colony is attacked by the reapers, but it would have to be well done, I really didn't feel sad about the colonists on any of the colector worlds
We haven't rescued Tali enough already?

The normandy just exited slipspace near earth with earth in ruins and getting bombarded by the reapers, then anderson calls shepard "shepard what are you doing here" and shepard simply replies "sir, finishing this fight"
Then in slow motion Earth blows up and Commander SHeperd and his crew scream NOOOOOOO in slow motion. We also see one of the new enemies, the Reaper's have engineered a cyborg thresher maw that flies through space and shoots laser acid out of its anus. Normandy 2 cannot defend against this even with upgrades, and they are force to crash land on the moon, where a full force of collector's and Reaper indoctrinates are awaiting them for a massive battle. Sheperd and his team get overwhelmed and captured. They wake up in the Reaper mother ship. Tali has been murdered, Miranda is barely alive, Jacob is missing, Mordin is jabbering insanely to himself, Garrus's arm is broken and his jaw is broken. Both Jack and Thane left the team after the collector ship so they aren't in this part of the game. Commander Sheperd get up only to see that he has been transformed into a half cyborg Reaper half man Super Soldier. The Illusive Man reveals himself as Soverign's Master "The Arch Reaper" and you now are forced to do the Reaper's bidding is they slowly begin to destroy the galaxy.
Will Shep and his surviving team-mates be able escape the Luna stronghold and resist the power of indoctrination? Is it too late for the galaxy. Commander Sheperd looks out an aft window as a cyborg Threshermaw spews acid lasers out of its anus at an Earth Capital Battleship, it goes down in flames. Sheperd is crying, because for once he is afraid. They have already lost.

The Reapers have been stationary in dark space for 50,000 years. THAT image is visible if the observation post is in range. (And looking in the right direction.)Gre3nham wrote...

I think someone is forgetting the laws of physics. Light travels at a set speed, a
speed which the reapers are traveling faster than. There would be no warning.

ME1 had a level cap of 60. ME2 had a level cap of 30. I think they set it lower so ME2 players could just pick up where they left off.Raphael diSanto wrote...
I'd be surprised if they didn't come up with some kind of plot element that resets Shep's skills and levels again, for the new players.
Remember, there'll be people coming in to here that haven't played ME1 or ME2. And even if you don't care about them, BioWare/EA does.
How they're going to handle scaling between new and returning players? Dunno - that's why they're the professional game developers.

Something like this.marshalleck wrote...
It should start with the Reapers activating the ace up their sleeve for getting back into the galaxy and destroying one of the main species' homeworlds. I personally would like to see the asari homeworld Thessia in flames and billions of them killed and the rest indoctrinated into becoming a Reaper horde, that should provoke an emotional response in most players and sufficiently establish a sense of urgency.

No, seriously, not another death/attack on the Normandy. Too simple and easy to do. It would have to reset skills. The death of a home world would be ok, but a bit cliché.

It opens with a view of a cruiser, maybe Human or Turian, it'd be similar to the view we get of the Normandy at the start of Mass Effect 2. Camera skips inside of the ship where you can see a captain talking to an unknown voice; "This is the -Insert Name-, we are currently orbiting -insert name of star-, there seems to be nothing unusual in this system, we're curre-" a voice breaks in saying: "Captain, there seems to be some high velocity objects coming out of FTL, orders?". The captain runs to the front of the ship to consult with the helmsmen when the camera zooms out and Reapers start coming out of FTL and one tears through the ship.
Sorry for some typos, I was tired while writing this.

You are a true intelectual. (rather lazy since you didn't see these imature baby cries didn't make it past the first page and people actual posted what they wanted. If the game opened up like this I would never play a bioware game again and I would catch a plane to Charlie sheens place with his dad Martin who is the voice of tim and me and charlie beat the crap out of his dad then I shoot them both and burry the last copy of the game in a far away place.JohnnyDollar wrote...
I think the opening sequence should have a closeup of TIM's face while he says: "Whaaaaattttssssuuuuup" with his tongue hanging out about a foot.
HA ha ha.....
For gods sakes take it seriously. Are you really so stupid you would want this?
In that case I hope the first person who dies would be named JohnnyDollar and he dies by hanar continual rapeing him.
Really not only are your joke post un orginal but you don't post a single serius thing after it like I asked. When I read some of the joke post I want to shoot my self in the foot to actually look like the joke was funny. They are that bad.
NOW THEN! Back to the topic at hand.
The begining I changed my mind. I want to blow up a whole **** load of reapers at the begining of the game. Not all of them but enough to turn a few Eh? cuttle fish like heads? lol

Ladies and gentlemen, I have an idea.
The beginning of ME3 should start with a short episode of Shepards past. You play a small mission with young Shepard, as follows:
1. Earthborn Shepard: Shep and his slum-gang of friends on Earth getting into trouble, things go wrong, big drama. (I know, I haven't put much thought into it, cut me some slack)...
2. Colonist Shepard: Mindoir, colony attacked, Shep does some heroic stuff to save somebody, his family dies, big drama.
3. Spacer Shepard: Shep stationed somewhere, station attacked, Shep has to do some heroic stuff to survive, lots of soldiers die, big drama.
So it's like 3 different possible intros, but each would provide background material as to why Shepard decided to join the Alliance and become the ultimate hero..... ?
As far as a start to ME3 I'm not sure but....
If people want a romance DLC, this would be a very cool addition since your LI would inevitably ask about your past. Getting to relive it would be awesome and make the backgrounds feel like they matter other than for small snippets of conversations. This and an idea I had for a way to handle this DLC:
Have a party to celebrate surviving the suicide mission, with Joker making a toast and Shepard speaking after getting to see how your 'dirty dozen' behave in a party
Wild awesome shtoinking ensues and in the morning you get to know them as a person a bit more after an aesthetically appealing sunrise and a glass of green stuff (shepard drinks appletinis!!!!) moment, finding out new things we didn't know before, like who Miranda's father is, more information about Jack, etc. They ask you how strongly you feel about them and you can drop the love bomb if you want.
They ask you just how Torfan, Elysium, or Akuze went and you get to play it in the game. Torfan you see how Renegade Shep left his unit to die to get a clear shot at the leader and his lackeys, blowing their brains out. He reports in to Alliance with a stone cold "Those murdering bastards are dead. Private Shepard, over." Akuze sees Shepard having to move from cover to cover, seeing everyone die around you screaming in agony, makes a break for a shuttle and breaks down into tears as he/she's speeding off. Elysium, you'd be hanging out with a couple of friends, then people start screaming as explosions go off. You have them enter the bunker, while you set up with two off-duty cops that get wiped out quickly in the crossfire. You see a perfect sniping perch, and have to move from cover to cover to reach it. Once you get there, cutscene shows you shooting down shuttles and troops like Garrus in ME2, followed by explosions of the raiders getting wiped out, with Pressley involved in some way (he was at Elysium, remember?).
As far as the home background, you could see Earthborn Shepard's gang telling him be there, it's your birthday or somesuch, while he sneaks off to the Alliance recruiter to sign up. Mindoir, you'd see a kid Shepard version and his parents talking about pyjaks or something cuddly, interrupted by batarian slavers coming in on shuttles and doing the horrendous things talked about w/ Zabaleta in ME. Spacer, you'd see teenage Shepard, getting another straight A report card, with his mom congratulating him on turning 18. Little conversation about how proud she is of him, how she wishes he had a normal childhood, etc. etc. Ends with him saluting an officer in a boot camp of some kind.
Afterwards, you reflect on how your ME and ME2 decisions affect you, and your LI goes into each one specifically to develop some more characterization of Shepard personally.
How awesome would that be?
As far as how ME3 will start, Casey Hudson has said that they plan on having content in ME2's DLC that ties the events up to lead into ME3, so I would guess that Shepard gets in trouble with the Council. I like the idea someone posted before about the Cerberus connection being used against you either way, especially since Virmire survivor had an eyewitness account of you on Horizon and since you destroyed the Collectors, who else could be to blame now? Wonder if the turian councilor would say....
'Ah yes, Collectors. The attackers on Horizon that just so happened to be there the same time as you and Cerberus. We dismiss your claim.'
