Watching some....urm.... topics in the ME2 general discussion, I see stuff like "ME1 was a pathethic joke, it sucks, it's failure" etc.

I mean, what's the problem with the game in general?
To me, it seems okay. It had a story, interesting NPCs, RPG stuff and everything. ME2 continues the franchise and improves(and let's be honest, dumbs down some things)combat a lot, but it's still badass.

So anybody care to elaborate what's up with the ME1 RAAAAAAGEEE?

Most of it is just backlash against the constant complaining that ME2 is a "disappointment", if you ask me. But it does feel like you're somehow expected to take sides. I love both games, and you can't make me choose which I like better.

I don't see much problem with either game that isn't mirrored by a problem in the other... In my eyes both games have strong story, good playability and amazing characters.

Yeah, I feel the same way.

Um, I visit the ME2 forums almost exclusively, and I can tell you you have it totally backwards. I've seen thread after thread of people saying ME1 was better. "I wish they stuck with the mako and exploration, the hammerhead sucks," "RPG elements were dumbed down, ME1 was better," "ME1 storyline was way better than the ME2 storyline," "ME1 romances were more meaningful than the ME2 romances (admittedly a minority opinion)," and the list goes on and on.

This, about a thousand times.

Why can't people just like BOTH games and stop imposing their opinions as facts?  oh wait, this is the internet...:crying:

I think both ME1 and ME2 are great games, with a fantastic story and memorable and endearing characters. Bioware has a stellar reputation for creating games that linger in your memory long after you've finished them. If well-written stories and characters are what you go for in games, ME1 and ME2 are both excellent games that are well worth your money.

That said, both ME1 and ME2 adopted different APPROACHES to their game. ME1 was a shooter/RPG hybrid with more emphasis on traditional RPG elements like inventory management, open-terrain exploration and a stronger levelling emphasis. ME2 was a shooter/RPG hybrid with more emphasis on the shooter elements, resulting in faster-paced (and deadlier) gun combat, and less emphasis on the stuff ME1 focused on. They're still there, but they're in the background.

I love both games, but for different reasons. Surprisingly, a lot of people don't seem to feel the same way.
