Finished. Clocked in at about 19 hours, which is pretty normal for a Bioware expansion. I'd disagree with all those claiming it's around 10 hours long, though I'd be in a better position if I knew just how they managed to get through faster than a cheetah on rocket-powered skates. I might even go far as to say those who did complete it in that time are doing it wrong (the insolence!).

All I will mention on the price is that I got it for £15, a common price here in England.

Anyway, so the expansion, how do I articulate my thoughts on this... it's good.  Image IPB

Ok, bit more. The characters are entertaining, the story is quite enthralling, and the voicework was very well done.
I'm mildly annoyed that despite being the lord of a keep, you're forced to go gallivanting around the countryside in an attempt to defeat evil single-handed, as your keep's men are about as useful as men's nipples. I guess what I'm looking for is a well done strategy mini-game from the keep which involves holding council, sending troops to secure villages, settling various disputes, with a map that clearly shows the territory you hold, the happiness of the villagers, blahdy blahdy blah.   Is that too much to ask? Maybe. It sounds like I'm asking for Total War or some gibberish, but I'd just like something interesting to do around the keep. I thought the keep system in Neverwinter Nights 2 and Baldur's Gate were a little better.

Mining and castle reconstruction are a good idea in theory, but you never really notice the results of your hard work. It doesn't feel like it matters. Call me mr mcthicky, but I'd like a cutscene or some obvious sign which proves blowing all that money on dwarven walls really did help. If I want to know for sure, I'll have to play through again and skip the upgrading.

Also the ending is a little abrupt and jarring in comparison to Origins which provided full closure (although people still complained about that).

Biggest complaints I think are, the intro which really didn't set up the story of the expansion too well. You are just walking to the keep and find it under attack. The ending is pretty abrupt too like you said.

Other complaints are the lack of interaction with the few Origins' characters you run into (you would think you would talk to Alistair or Anora more since they are the rulers of Fereldan) is also a major gripe. Then there is the lack of carryover of your decisions from Origins and their effects.

Honestly, I think the story of the expansion fits better with the Orlesian Warden than the PC Warden. That way you don't need to worry about much carryover of your decisions and their effects of your character from origins and the interactions from those that appear in origins works out better since they don't know the Orlesian Warden.

And the mining and castle reconstruction do affect the ending if I recall and affects how long the keep stands in the end if I recall.

I agree that except for a few bugs the least enjoyable parts of Awakening was the ending and to some extent the beginning. Both felt rushed and incomplete.
