Been playing Awakening and have noticed that it seems to be very similar to NWN 2. The whole outfitting of your troops, repairs to the keep was done before in NWN 2, was wondering if any old school gamers out there have noticed this too? Just an observation.

That was my first thought as I started the expansion. But the game quickly heads down a different road...

I would hardly call NWN2 Old school...

You could probably go back further and find that the whole repairing your keep & outfitting troops has been done many times before NWN2

I made the mistake of playing NWN2 after DragonAge.

Gave up after an hour or so.

Crossroad Keep was much more awesome than the Vigil "The Vigil" is an awesome name however). I think Vigil's Keep had a lot of potential that wasn't capitalised on.

Neverwinter Nights 2 wasn't the first to do it, and Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening won't be the last. It's a pretty common feature in CRPGs.

Also, what does being "old school" have to do with anything?

Crossroad Keep continually looked better and better as you upgraded.

NWN2 is crap, Mask of the Betrayer however is great and one of the greatest RPG expansions I've ever played, hell beats out most full games. Give that a go.

Other than the fact that upgrading Crossroad Keep really has no noticeable impact on the actual battle there, I found it to be much more.. interactive, shall we say, than Vigil's Keep, to be honest.

But NWN2 is a good game (and its expansion is even better), so that's not to say that Vigil's Keep is a pile of fecal matter in an objective sense. Only comparatively. :P

You can obtain a keep in Baldur's Gate 2, and that was also done better than Awakening. It was nice to see the return of the keep system, but I expected more improvements and interactivity, not less.

It's tough to go back and play games a few short years ago that had some challenge involved with them.  Especially after having played a game that literally spoon feeds you the "I win" button.

NwN 2 is superior to Dragon Age because it has gnomes. Deep gnomes, to boot.

Once I win Dragon Age (which I may do if I stop with my incessant re-rolling of characters), I may have to dig out NwN 2 and reinstall for some gnome goodness.

I wasn't turned off by the gameplay but by the weird camera that would go all over the place but not where I want it to be and the unresponsive controls.

I hated that timer crap, I cheated it away because otherwise I wouldn't have finished it.

Lol, You guys are right, NWN 2 is not old school, bad choice of words on my part. Old school would be Eye of the beholder, Baldurs gate, Icewind dale and Planescape torment. I was just trying to see if there are others like me who have played the golden age games of dungeons and dragons and yes i know DAO is not AD and D.

Don't worry, they had to find something to nitpick about. It's a strong urge.

Also, NWN2 is a better game than DA:O. Better combat system, no level/item scaling; which I value a lot. DAO's advantage is that it has non-linear exploration (to a certain degree), although levels itself are very linear.

In my opinion DAO feels a lot like a polished and not broken version of NWN2. In other words I think it is a better game.

Tbh i think NWN2 is the better game mainly because the story ends way more satisfying, i mean throughout Dragon age there is so much build up to this Archdemon and then it turns out its just another dragon that can't even speak.. NWN2 was better because the story was better i don't care one bit about one combat system or the other i mean if it was up to be I'd prefer to go back to Baldurs gate 2 system which in my opinion was the best :)

I think what they should have done was making the archdemon a minor boss and then have the tewinther imperium be the main boss

I loved NWN2, but going back to it now, cant even play it.

The bad camera controls breaks the whole thing for me.

I probably just need to get used to it again, but DA:O just made the controls of the camera, your party, everything so, effortless.

But man, the story in NWN2, it's right up there with BG2 and Mass effect, according to me

The similarity in regards to the Keeps are the only siilarity between the two games I can find (besides a minor gameplay similarity), so I wouldn't go as far as to call it a clone...
