Okay, so i'm thinking of buying a Gaming laptop but I don't have a whole lot of knowledge of which one to get and the all the specs and stuff. I would like to get one thats affordable but also can run most games, I was thinking Alienware but like i said I dont know if thats a wrong choice or not. Any help or suggestions would be awesome.

Alienware, by far, makes THE best laptop computers. I highly recommend them.

Alienware is the best out there but they are really expensive.. Someone told me that Pudget Custom Computers made good gaming laptops also I'm not sure if they are cheaper or not though.

Just remember its basically a dell with a few whistles and bells.

You can buy a good gaming laptop (if you really want a laptop) for half the price an Alienware will cost you. The most import thing in a laptop is to check the gfx card :)

You are thinking of Alienware desktop PCs. The laptops, however, truly are the best there is.

While some of the newer laptops you can game on, I ask you, why? The laptop if for portability, they are not durable, upgradable or really comfortable to spend a lot of time gaming on. You can make/assemble a desktiop with outrageous specs far cheaper than buying a laptop with repectable specs.

I spent a lot of my earlier career working on laptops, and I am certifieed on all of the major brands. I would only get a laptop for portability, I would never want one for my gaming or priimary computer.

My opinion.

I don't recommend laptops for gaming, but if you want one i think the Asus Republic of Gamers G73Jh is one of the top choices. But remember, a good gaming laptop is never cheap.

I don't know the kind of use you will have for it, but if i may suggest, why don't you buy a cheap lptop just for text editing, and uses the rest of the money to assemble a nice desktop game rig?

Aviation, if you have more money than sense, than go for it...most of us have some common sense, and I for one would neevr touch an Alienware machine, desktop nor laptop.

There is no need, save the money, go buy a car instead, or hire an escort for the weekend...whatever....

Well, I think this thread has it pretty much locked down. The term "Gaming laptop" is sort of oxymoronic, and you can get a better system for less if you go desktop. If, however, you are set on having a laptop for gaming than an Alienware is the way to go even if they are a bit pricey.

Himura's idea is excellent, however, get as cheap laptop for laptoppy things and the money you save can go towards an even better desktrop gaming rig. Also, a desktop rig is easily upgradeable in the future.

Don't buy a laptop for gaming. Why does it need to be laptop?

"Affordable gaming laptops" are more of a wet dream than anything else. The $2000 (or so) for one would be better put towards building an "enthusiast" desktop PC that could run every game (except maybe Metro 2033) 60+ FPS on maximum detail.

But if you really want a "gaming laptop", I would suggest not getting an Alienware (*coughDellcough*) or a Voodoo (*coughHPcough*).

Sorry for the confusion, it does not have to be a laptop it can be desktop, whichever is better for gaming :)

Alienware is a good company, and highly regarded as one of the best laptop and PC makers.

Dell is not as good, but I go through that company to assemble my PCs.

Also if I wanted a Kickass gameing rig, it would be a desktop. But it is up to you.

Generally Specwise it is a good idea to go with 4gbs plus of RAM, depending on how awesome you want your product and how much your willing to pay.

In addition a must get is the Core2 Quad Processor, if you already have a better one in mind then go ahead. Essentially here are the spec for it, I highly recomend it.

As everyone has said, skip the laptop for gaming.

And the iPhones and Androids and Blackberries.

Desktop PC is the way to go for gaming, end of discussion.

CPU
Motherboard
Vid Card
RAM
Hard Drive
Power Source
Disk Drive
Ethernet Port
Sound Card
Operating System

You can build a great system for under $1000, or an epic system for $1500-$2000.

It's important that you properly match Motherboard, CPU, and Vid card for smooth compatability.

For gaming I would highly recomend getting a system board that will allow multiple video cards. I run an ASUS with two Radeon 4850's w/1Gig VRAM per card. The graphics is very good, far more than this type of game requires. I would also recomend Quad core Intel at the very least, I also run Windows 7 64 Bit. Vist may limit you to 3 Gig of RAM on some boards and 32Bit.

No, not at ALL.  ABSOLUTELY no where NEAR the best.

These are some of the best.

This is my laptop (from xotic)

I needed something that I could take to uni in case I had to, and that could replace a desktop.  This has worked out beautifully.  I score a little over 10k in the 3dmark2006, and I can play games with high end graphics (Dawn of War 2) with very high graphics set (1900x1200 res) and medium level AA settings (average fps is 30 for DoW2 at my settings using their in-game benchmark).

Actually I heard somewhere Intel plans to discontinue production of the Core2 Quads sometime in 2010, is there any truth to this?

Alienware have the Best marketing, good specs on some, but way over priced. I can make the same PC's for less than half the price. Look for deals on components and assemble yourself, If you are unskilled, have a tech do it.

Intel is producing the i3, i5 and i7 core 6 thru 12 chips now. Not mainstream, but built for speed. The Quad core has to end sometime.

With Hyperthreading, there may be up to 12 CPUs presented to the os. You definitel want to be running Winders 7 64bit.
