I didn't see a good place to put this, so I decided to put this here mostly because spoilers are allowed.

I need to state right here at the beginning, that I have not
read through these forums, and I have not looked to see if these ideas and
issues have been discussed before. I and only stating my opinions and ideas.
Take them for what they are worth.

!!!SPOILERS!!!

!!!SPOILERS!!!

I am going to point out now, that to discuss certain issues
I have about the game probably require that I talk about some things that could
be considered spoilers. This is your one and only warning, if you have not yet
played or completed Mass Effect 2, and don’t want to take the chance that
something might be spoiled for you, stop reading now.

!!!SPOILERS!!!

!!!SPOILERS!!!

First of all, I’m not going to talk about ME2’s storyline,
writing, bugs, or any thing similar, since I like ME2s story and writing and
any bugs are beyond my expertise. I’m going to talk about game play mechanics.
I will try not to rehash any “RPG elements” complaints (what is an “RPG
element” anyway?) along they way, but I can’t promise anything.

Second, when I have a problem with something, I try to
present a solution instead of just complaining about it. Therefore, for each
issue I talk about, I will try and offer a solution. If I don’t talk about
something you consider an problem, it might not be because I don’t have a
problem with it, it may be because I can’t come up with a way to fix it.

Problem #1 – Resource Collection

This is, of course the number one complaint I have seen on
the net and heard in person from others. It is probably the single most tedious
“mini-game” I have ever seen, period. Granted, you don’t have to do it to
complete the game, but if you want to successfully complete the game…you have
to do it.

My Fix – I actually wouldn’t change anything until you get
the scanner upgrade from Miranda. With the upgrade, when you activate the
scanner the planet’s (very well done) texture is replaced or overlaid with what
would look like an infra red false color map, showing you where the resources
are, but not what they are. You would still have to move the cursor over the
locations to identify them, but the whole process would be quicker and easier.
As a further benefit, this would make the rather useless sensor upgrade (on the
PC that is) actually worth getting.

Problem #2 – Hacking & Bypass

First of all, I have no problems with the Hacking/Bypass
mini-games, I actually like them and find them to be a vast improvement over one
size fits all mini-game from ME1. The issue I have is that you don’t need a
tech expert in you squad to do it.

My Fix – To fix this I would do two things. First I would
put the skill track back into the characters for whom it makes sense (Tali,
Legion, etc). Second I would add it to the player, regardless of the players
chosen class. This way, the player is not required to bring a tech expert with
them, if they are willing to spend the points.

The next several issues are all related, and fixing them
kind of rolls them into the one, so I will list all the problems and then the
fix.

Problem #3 – Special Ammo as a Skill Track.

While I can understand the desire to have a few more skill
tracks, especially considering how many were removed from the game, this was
not a good choice. How training can influence if you can use a special ammo
type, or even how effective a special ammo type is, is beyond me. This is a
factor of the weapon, not the user.

Problem #4 – Too few weapons.

Not counting DLCs, there are two assault rifles (not
counting the Revenant), two SMGs, two pistols (of witch, one is useless), two
sniper rifles (not counting the Widow), and two, I think, shotguns. This isn’t
enough, there is almost no variety and things get boring. The only weapons that
have any variety is heavy weapons.

Problem #5 – Find a new weapon and anyone in the squad who
can use it, gets it.

I can understand streamlining, but this is taking things a
bit far, into the realm of lazy players. There has to be a system whereby you
find or buy new weapons, you have to decide who will use it. Since there is no
in mission inventory, this would mean any currently equipped weapon would be
dropped or sold depending on how you got it (and I have no problem with this).

My Fixes – Special ammo should be a mode of the weapon.
Early weapons should have only one  (or
none) special ammo types, fixed by the type of gun (incendiary, disruptor, shredder,
etc). Better weapons would have two or more ammo types, but I would not
recommend more than two however. The ammo type would be fixed and unchangeable,
and you would have to pick the weapon appropriate for the mission and enemies,
possibly making trade offs. With the addition of thermal clips you can increase
the variety of weapons by changing the clip size and ammo reserve. For example
I almost never use the M-15 due to it’s small ammo reserve, but I’m sure others
do because of it’s high rate of fire. Problem #5 is fixed with the addition of
greater variety of weapons and the means that would have to be added to put
them into the game (ie, buying them in stores for each party member).

Note – Inventory management should be left out of mission,
on the ship where it is. It makes more sense since you don’t have porters, a
magic bag of holding, or however you do it a fantasy RPG, with you. Personally
I think the weapon kiosks found during the course of some missions should be
eliminated entirely. If you’re going to make the decision to remove inventory
control from the missions, commit to it totally.

Problem #6 – Thermal Clip cool down.

Not to bore people with physics, but unless energy is added,
systems always go from a high energy state to a lower one. To put it simply,
hot things will always cool down.

My Fix – Thermal clips, if not used for a short time, like
shields, slowly cool down. There are mods that add this, and I’ve read it was
in early builds of the game, but was removed. So it’s kind of a minor issue at
this point.

Those are the major issues I have. I’m sure some of you will
disagree, but that’s the ok with me, you are allowed to. I’m just voicing my opinion.
There are, of course, other small things that bug me, but that would just be
nit-picking.

Comments and criticisms are always welcome.
