How are you guys playing vanguard in a
manner where it is so fun? I am not horribly impressed as a vanguard so
far. I get pretty shot up waiting for my charge skill to recharge.
And
should I get the Claymore or the assault rifle spec on the collector
ship?
When you get the Charge ability higher, every time you charge, your shield gets partly reloaded.
When you charge, then you should seek out a small group of rather easy enemies. the one charged at is out for a while since he's sent flying (If he doesn't have protection). So concentrate on the nearest enemy, that isn't stunned. If he's in melee range, take his protection down with a few swift punches and let him taste the shotgun with fire ammo after that.
Now take the next one and repeat. While you hit enemies in the face, they cant fire. If you're shot up soesn't matter because as soon as you do your next charge, your shield is back. Just be careful not to charge into an area overpopulated by enemies or with too stong enemies. NEVER charge into the range of a flamethrower. Either charge him directly if its unarmored/shielded and finish him quickly or stay away from those bastards - they hurt you a lot faster than your charge can reload.
The question if you want to use the Krogan Shotgun or Assault Rifle spec is a matter of taste. I took the Assault Rifle, because the Krogan Shotgun, even if immensely powerful, only has one shot at a time and you have to reload after every single shot. Reloading is not what you need when you just charged into an enemy pack IMO.

Least favorite: Soldier
The biotic powers really give a tactical approach to the whole gameplay, at least in my oppinion. On Insanity, if you don't stick to a precise strategy, then you die almost immediately. The bonus power I chose was Warp Ammo, at first I chose this to make me want to shoot more, as to not leave out the shooter aspect of the game. When I started using it at higher difficulties, i found it very useful and stuck with it until i beat Insanity.
The Adept is indeed one of the most fragile classes of all, but I can't think of anything more satisfying than hearing the Warp detonation and making Harbinger shut up

But my favorite is still the Infiltrator. A well-placed shot with the Widow is just as satisfying as a good Charge run. I tend to be a lot more patient and tactical with the Infiltrator. Reloading a save because of a bad tactical move as an Infiltrator is frustrating. Reloading a save because of a bad tactical move as a Vanguard means I had just done something incredibly stupid yet fun.
I was mostly meh about Sentinel and Adept. Not that they were boring to play, but I found myself thinking about how I preferred the Infiltrator more. Shame really because the Adept class in the first Mass Effect was played much as I play Vanguard now: suicidal but fun.
My least favorite is Soldier, but that's not to say it's a bad class. I can see the appeal to others, but it was too monotonous for me.
And I haven't mentioned the Engineer because I haven't played one yet. From the videos I've seen, I get the feeling it can be as fun as the Vanguard for entirely different reasons. I love Tali and Legion's Combat Drones.

1) Infiltrator, I like the strategies involved with it, not to mention my main is an infiltrator ne way. Sniping is fun, but most of the time to conserve ammo with the mantis/widow I don't get to snipe as much.
2) Adept makes me feel like a god, add dominate as a bonus power for hilarious battles. It's great but sometimes you just want to be good with guns once in a while. Other classes are better in that regard.
3) Vanguard was fun due to the intenseness and close calls yet continual drunken charges keeps you alive due to the shield boost and at the end of every battle - 'THAT WAS AWESOME'. However, charge bugs and frustratingly charging the wrong target at times can p me off sometimes.
4) Soldier, for pure killing power and bullet time. But it isn't as great as the others.

2. Sentinel. Just as much fun as the soldier, only loses out because Soldier's my "canon".
3. Vanguard/Infiltrator/Adept. I love em all.
6. Engineer - the fact that it doesn't have its own unique talent really bugs me...

Vanguard is simple. You equip the Eviscerator Shotgun. You pick a target. You Charge. You shoot the target in the face. You want to get 10 points into charge before you spend a single talent point elsewhere, and get heavy charge, which slows down time after you charge, so you can line up the shot.
On the collector ship, you get the sniper rifle. The Eviscerator is close enough to the Claymore Damage wise, but has 3 shots instead of 1, so is more forgiving. The sniper rifle opens up a whole world of tactical options for the Vanguard.

-I loved the Infiltrator's feel, especially once it gets the Widow, you say "I'm home!"
-Vanguard is great fun, albeit slightly monotonous when it comes to power use, but flying into a pack of enemies and blasting them down between charges (or getting hilariously slaughtered) never gets old.
-Engineer really appeals to me, especially with Dominate... Playing on Insanity, I have to be really tactical, plan my battles beforehand, take care with my squadmates... Plus it's a joy spreading chaos on the battlefield.
-Sentinel I haven't played much, but it has a good, rounded feel to it. It's a bit less exciting than the others, but I love the sense of versatility you have.
-Adept is fun, I love combining powers, even though it does have a bit of a "rinse and repeat" feel to it. Still, chucking enemies around or blowing them to bits with warp explosions is always fun!
-Sorry to all die hard Soldiers, but somehow I don't feel at all drawn to trying this class. I realize it's a great, powerful class, but feels a bit too "shooter-esque" for my tastes.
So to sum up: I really don't have a favorite, they all have their appeal.

I am more of a fan of biotics and combat. In Sentinel's defense, the class was relatively fun to play at first, but as I fully upgraded Assault armor and Guardian, I could literally just keep reapplying the armor and walk into battle (yes, on insanity). This is not fun for me.

This however could change based on my playing experience. Vanguard was my first playthrough on normal, Soldier my second one and on insanity and Engineer my third one on insanity. I'm still on the Engineer playthrough waiting for Kazumi to do the iff mission, legion's loyalty mission and the suicide mission.
I'm actually having a blast with Engineer in insanity and it is being easier than my Soldier playthrough.

I'm a "tech nerd" in real life, and I prefer to take out as many enemies from a distance, and pick my NPC team, so they can handle most of the "close-in" work. I find myself working well with either Samara (or Jack) and Grunt.
I prefer to handle most of the hacking and bypass work as well.
Least favorite: any Biotic. I'm no good at doing these kinds of roles (especially when I've got "Uber-biotics" like Jack and Samara on my team). Biotics just don't "fit" with my combat style. They always seem to run out (or require a cool down period) when you need them the most. I'd rather find some cover and shoot my way out.
If I can't have Infiltrator, I'll rather take my chances as an Engineer, or a Soldier.

My least favorite is the soldier because it just makes it feel bland and boring. Only one power, so all you can do is run and gun.

Anyways, I only ever finished a playthrough as an Infiltrator, Sentinel, and Soldier. But have played a bit of Vanguard and Engineer so here is my order.
Favorite: Infiltrator- I will never get tired of putting on Tactical Cloak and then using the Widow to line up that head shot and see the blood splatter on the wall.
Least Favorite: Sentinel- This was the class I did on my first playthrough and it was so boring for me it literally made me hate the combat in the game. It still hooked me in though but I just found the class to be so darn boring. This is probably why I have yet to try out an Adept.

Least Favorite: Sentinel

2) Infiltrator: cloaking and headshotting collectors with the widow before their
floating platform even gets to you is awesome, best weapon
3) Adept constantly bashing enemies with a stream of biotics with quick
cooldowns is great, spamming just warp and singularity on higer difficulties
gets old tho
4) Soldier, worth playing just for the revenant, takes down heavy mechs fastr
than heavy weapons
5) Sentinel Great survivability and cool power but a little dull
6) Engineer not a big fan of the drone when you can just bring tali or
legion and get the same effect and I like the adept more as a caster

2.Adept
3.Infiltrator
4.Soldier
I like vanguard best because of biotic charge and I like biotics better than tech moves anyway. Infiltrator was pretty fun I have a habit of using as little ammo as possible so I barely used the first sniper rifle I had. I haven't finished playing the soldier yet but I miss my biotics and don't really care about adrenaline rush and the assault rifle.

Logic: Extremely weapon-based is fine, but being a one-trick pony (Adrenaline Rush/Cloak (and slow-scope) make the classes extremely one dimensional.
Favorite: Engineer/Adept.
Logic: Simply because they are the classes that seem to need the most improvement, and thus garner attention to learning how to play them differently/effectively. With short cooldowns on a good number of different abilities, your options are open to how you want to play the class. I only wish they had a better selection of weaponry, or at least gained some bonuses to compliment those areas.
