I can't help but think that those who find certain classes boring and one-dimensional have not tried very hard to find more dimensions to them.

Infiltrator does nothing but cloak and snipe? Cloak and charge forward with SMG or Shotgun. Or take Dominate and focus on it and AI Hacking to have enemies killing each other while you snipe away with barely a shot fired at you.

Sentinel does nothing but stay back and spam Warp/Overload? Pick Assault Armour and Energy Drain and charge forward. Or you could try what Thisisme800 does and use an AR to take down defenses, followed by Cryo Blast and Heavy Throw.

The most obvious way to play a class isn't the only way, or even necessarily the way that best suits you.

I love infiltrator. I got Mass Effect because I loved Dragon's Age, and my favourite DA:O character is a rogue archer. Infiltrator is basically a science fiction version of that character class. I like it with reave, so if I want to do something other than shoot, I do that. And finishing off someone with the "sneak in, SMG to the head" routine is a kick, too.

Favorite: Vanguard.

-I love the energy that the vanguard has. It's a great rush (/shot) to charge in at a target and one shot them :3

Least favorite: Infiltrator

-Originally my favorite, but insanity horizon kinda killed it for me :/

I played through as Vanguard, and that was fun, but I haven't played others yet on ME2, so I can't quite say yet.

As for the first game, my favorite is the one I discovered the joys of recently, the Adept. I love the Controller feel to the class when geared towards the Bastion. Least favorite was probably Infiltrator. Too easy once Sniper has been maxed out. I am looking forward to the challenge of Adept in ME2.

When i started infiltrator appealed to me. It never disappointed either..

I just started a vanguard. OH.MY.GOD. Most fun I have ever had. Its like a crack addiction trying to find that next enemy to charge. I Slapped on insanity on my tali recruitment, and charged the colossus. Took it down the first try. Very satisfying and awesome. Going balls deep against scions, and other enemies other classes have to think twice about is rewarding.

Soooooo :

Vanguard

Infiltrator

Sentinel

Soldier

Engineer

Adept (have yet to try it)

Still need to try Adept, Sentinel, and Engineer.

Favorite is Vanguard though. I'm trying to figure out why there are classes without Charge and coming up blank.

Adept/Infiltrator seem to have the most variety. They may not be as exciting as the vanguard, but they're not one-trick pony classes either (which I consider both vanguard and soldier to be).

I love the adept. It was the last class I played because I thought biotics were nerfed on insanity but it's not. It's very powerful with it's singularity and warp explosions even on a NG+ insanity run.

Vanguard/Infiltrator/Soldier * All of these classes are fun.

Vanguard is nice but I only like it if game is modded without mods it is the lowest ranked soldier class for me.

Playing without any modifactions though Infiltrator is my favorite.

Soldier is just general fun didn't care for ammo powers though which is why it's is second lowest ranked soldier class for me.

Adept- Biotics are always fun just wish they were more useful in combat in harder difficulties.

Sentinel- class doesn't know what it wants to be.  Is it supposed to get up close and kill but has no weapons to do so before collector ship.  And all those powers are there but those are useless if you're fighting close range.  And if fighting long range tech armor is useless.

Engineer-
combat is just to slow.  It's like being told you can't run during a marathon while every other class is on the 3 km of a 5k run.

(sorry, my english may be rusty)

1. Infiltrator : it fits to my playstyle, sniping is always satisfying. Incinerate helps for all crowd control. This is not the best class in the game, but I like it above any other. I usually don't use heavy weapons with my Infiltrator (powerful by himself), except the Avalanche. I don't use any bonus power either after getting the Widow.

2. Engineer : Mainly because I took the sniper in the Collector ship... In fact, it was like playing as an Infiltrator without being overpowered (the slowdown, the bonus from the cloak and the Widow...). Plus, I like Cryo Blast (I wanted Cryo Blast instead of Incinerate for my overpowered Infiltrator). I use the Drone mainly to shock someone out of cover and kill him with some Viper shots. I enjoyed my engineers this way, as tech-focused Infiltrators, using the drones to distract enemies while I am cooking a shot in the back of their head. I mainly use the Missile Launcher as the HW, and give some points in AP Ammo for my Viper to help.

3. Vanguard : Well.., as a sniper, I don't rely much on shotguns. With this class, Bioware found what is the equivalent of a sniper's headshots for shotgunners. I had problems taking enemies out of cover or killing them when unable to use Charge. Very frustrating for someone accustomed to be a sniper. Anyway, I have to admit Vanguard is the best class of the game in terms of fun. It's not flawless though : you will accidentaly miss some part of the fights charging to the end of a section, and you will not use anything but ammo types and Charge, except maybe Pull sometimes (but you have to give away some point in Shockwave...). With the reload/melee trick, it's really like using a sword to me.
This is the only class making me smile when I die.
Vanguard is on the third position only because I think you can't really use a Vanguard without Charge and shotguns : you can't turn off the beast. I don't know how to explain that... Vanguard seems a "narrow" or "closed" class to me. You can not adapt the class to yourself (it's irrelevant to use anything but shotgun, since you don't have to care about distances).
I gave my Vanguard Reave as a bonus power and the grenade launcher to deal with enemies I can't reach with Charge.

For the next two classes, I have to admit I hadn't figured out yet how to use them correctly, in a convincing way. Don't get me wrong. For now, these classes seemed as interesting as messy to me.

4. Adept : I appreciate this class for one reason : you have to rely on your squadmates' powers to make combos. It forces you to be a little bit tactical, definitely more than an Engineer. I don't think I have used every possibilities given by the Adept yet. I really don't know why, but I don't like this class much, maybe because I'm not fully satisfied with Singularity !

5. Sentinel : I like the shiny armor, the visual and sound effects it made when you lose it, stunning your opponents ! The only thing lacking in this class might be some kind of a squad bonus (may be like the bonus gave by Miranda's passive). I am ready to give my bonus weapon obtained in the Collector ship for another skill that can make my firepower obsolete but my squad's firepower deadly (with a counterpart... maybe a power used on a enemy to draw any bullet shot in the room to him in the next 3 seconds / two effects : the enemy dies receiving those bullets or he begs his pals not to shoot in a short time - it would be like a "reverse" Dominate !).
This class could have been great with a shotgun if you had Pull, and sniping is really hard with it because you have no power to stun or slow people except Cryo. If you weren't bold enough to take one of these (like me !), you took the Assault Rifle.
So you ended with a weapon made to handle any situation (short / long distance), with a build made to handle any situation (debuffing any defense types with Warp, Overload). That, plus the Armor that makes you immortal. I personnaly foundthis boring :)
And I can't deal with a class that encourages me to lose my shield ! (the Vanguard had perfect counterparts for his boldness)

6. Soldier : not much to say. With this class, I had the feeling I can deal with anything by myself, only with firepower, excluding my other squadmates and the true essence of the game. You have to switch between ammo types and weapons, and it's awkward without proper key bindings...
I can be wrong though, because Soldier is the first class I took.

1. Adept - throwing curve balls and flinging mercs around the map were fun experiences.
2. Soldier - moving tactically without the use of magic was also fun.
3. Vanguard - intense combat, but the fights were a bit short.
4. Infiltrator - ok, but headshotting gets old after a while.
5. Engineer - decent on insanity, utterly boring on normal.
6. Sentinel - mercs can burn off my armor with one bullet.  That sucked.

1. Infiltrator - death from afar. Sniper rifles, tactical cloak, and incinerate. What else do you need?

2. Adept - maybe not the most powerful class, but played properly, a lot of fun.

3. Soldier - adrenaline rush plus access to every weapon in the game.

4. Sentinel - overall, a great class, nearly as fun as the infiltrator.

5. Engineer - haven't played one yet, but I never was a fan of pets in RPG's

6. Vanguard - hated it. I just couldn't get the hang of biotic charge - it doesn't fit my play style.

1. Soldier: Fast gameplay, an answer to every situation. Great!

2. Infiltrator: I love sniping, so...

3. Vanguard: It's pure fun to play.

4. Adept: Like the other two "casters", but to play an adept needs some creativity.

5. Engineer: Just casting against defenses, but the drone is cool.

6. Sentinel: Engineer minus the drone.

But i even like the classes on the bottom of this list. Engineer and Sentinel play very similar, but they are all fun.

I played as soldier twice in the first game and thought that I would find it boring for the second game. I was wrong. After scrapping my first play through as a vanguard I decided to go back to the tried and true soldier class and had so much fun doing so. It fits my character better and if I wanted to use a biotic/tech power, I could simply command my squad mates to do so. I also love to play shooters, such as Modern Warfare 2, so that influences my liking of the class. It would be nice to have more rpg elements in the game but what's done is done. I also want to point out that the soldier class can be used in a similar fashion to the vanguard class. If you wish to charge at enemies, simply activate adrenaline rush with your shotgun equipped and sprint towards enemy targets. This can be pretty effective and definitely kick-ass!

1. Soldier - All weapon types (except smg - which i dont really care about). Adrenaline rush is very useful.
2. Infiltrator - I like the slow motion effect when you look through the scope
3. Vanguard - Charge is pretty sweet
4. Adept - Being able to lift people up and then throw them can be fun, but not enough firepower!
5. Engineer/Sentinel - I like firepower. i cant manage with just a pistol and smg

1. Engineer - has alot of diffrent skills and was very usefull class to play on my insanity run, also the diffrent builds you can make gives you alot of diffrent ways to play the class

2. Vanguard - my first playtrough was with vanguard so the class appeals some special meaning to me, played ME1 as Vanguard aswell first time and I will play ME3 as Vanguard also, was load of fun

3. Adept - while being very fun to play around with biotics he doesnt match with the awesomeness of Vanguard, lacks balls to charge at enemy :)

4.Inflitrator - from the skills that I have at my disposal I use cloak propably 90% of the times becose im a sniper, the style of inflitrator gets boring and repetive quite fast

5. Sentinel - havent tried it but by looking at its skills I wouldnt be too tempted to play with it

6. Soldier - If I want to play a pure 3rd person shooter I could allways go for Gears of War becose of better shooter gameplay, Soldier class was a boring shooter class in ME1 and it stays as boring shooter class in ME2

I absolutely love the vanguard with the claymore shotgun. Charging enemies never gets old.

I cant even finish the game with the sentinal. It just seems boring to me.

Soldier is alright. Better if im in a TPS mood.

Favorite: Infiltrator.

Why? I like the sniper and the slow motion when you aim.

The one I hate: Adept.

Why? Because biotics are soooo underpowered. WTF.

Favorite:  Vanguard is tied with Soldier here.  'Guards are just crazy awesome, and the human cannonball will never get old.  Soldiers are unstoppable, one man wrecking crews.  A properly skilled Soldier is ready for any and all situations with her ammo powers.

Least favorite: Sentinel.  Strangely, it's just...too safe.  With Tech Armor, it's like I typed in IDDQD, and everything's a cakewalk.

EDIT: Currently playing an Engineer, and am able to sit back and cackle as I dominate fights entirely.  Haven't played an Adept yet.

Sure... why not.

Vanguard >> Adept/Infiltrator/Soldier > Engineer > Sentinel.

No, I cannot explain my dislike for the Sentinel.
