I ask this because I can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere...and I found a lot of places that referenced dragon age origins having a +30% cap on any specific element.

I wonder if that applies here, too. However, if it does...then why do such things like this exist? If the cap is at 30%, neither of these items is even remotely relevant. Which leads me to believe that the cap is either...much higher, or doest exist. Anyone able to confirm/deny this?

does no one really have an answer...or even questioned how this works?

Seems like this would be easy enough to test yourself. Equip both and use arcane bolt. Take off the ring and use arcane bolt. If the difference in damage is more than a few points then you aren't capped yet. The only other + spirit damage that I found was 20% gloves that were available in origins and on a vendor in awakening.

I read somewhere on the Dragon Age Wikia that the cap in Awakenings was +50%.

Whether it's correct or not I can't say. As jdeneweth said, test it and post the results here, or send an messege, since I'm curious myself.

Well, I would love to be able to test it more, but now all my gear's gone due to that stupid glitch when the architect takes all your stuff and locks you up. I cant even' use a previous save because my saves don't go back that far.

The most I have discovered is that my arcane bolts hit for like 70 now - vanilla. They were hitting for like 130 or so before. I had +30% spirit damage on my gloves, the 100% spirit damage ring, and the +50% spirit damage staff. So I'm sure the cap is somewhere between all that. I don't believe it all stacks.

However, I can't believe it would be 50% at the cap. If that were the case, then why even make an item that gave +100% spirit damage increase. I guess they've made some other pretty stupid mistakes in the coding of this game, though.

*sigh*

I tested it really quick and my arcane bolt does the same damage for +50%, +65%, +150% and +165%. I wouldn't rely on that quick test though, that character have been buggy too.

And I completly agree with you, doesn't make any sense with a item giving +100% if the cap is +50%.

It's 50%. Anything more doesn't give a bonus.

Why is then item having +100% bonus? Probably an error.

The new elemental damage cap is +50%. It is possible that the item that gives +100% spirit damage cancels out the spirit resistance or immunity of certain enemies.

Or more likely the people designing and building the areas are not the same ones designing the combat systems.

Huh, very intriguing. I wondered myself when I got the Staff of the Lost. So far those items are the only high +elemental dmg items. The rest I've found have been within normal ranges 5-20ish.

That's precisely what it is.

Still, there's some usefullness in redundant overkill like that.    On the off chance that your mage  encounters an opponent with  50% resistance to spirit damage, by golly, you'll still be able to nail him for full spirit damage if you have that ring equipped!
