Its how many frames the game shows per second.



Frames are basically still images.....to dumb it down a lot consider your game like a flipbook. The faster the flipbook goes the more like an animation it looks. Same goes for the game, the more frames it can show you in a second the smoother it looks.

The amount of frames your computer processes in a set time span. A frame is one image. It's the same as how films work - It's a series of images that, when sped at a certain speed, appear to be moving. The maximum number of frames your screen can display is set by the refresh rate - Anything higher than that is wasted, hence the V-Sync feature for graphics cards (it will limit the number of displayed frames to that figure, and should always be set to your monitor's referesh rate)

So if your frame rate is 30FPS, that means your screen is displaying 30 images every second.

Oh, I though we were talking about frames around paintings.



Frames per second around a painting wouldn't make any sense though.
